New Mercedes E-Class: The most hi-tech Mercedes EVER!

Here it is - the all-new Mercedes E-Class!
Mercedes has lifted the veil on its competitor to the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, and it’s the longest & widest E-Class ever made! But does that make it better than the previous generation? Let’s take a closer look…
For starters, there won’t be any mistaking the new E-Class for the holder models from the outside. There’s a taller, chunkier grille around the front, which is surrounded by a chrome border. There are two styles of grille depending on which trim you use - the AMG Line comes with a large Mercedes badge surrounded by miniature 3-pointed stars, whereas the Exclusive trim has a more-retro-inspired grille.
There are also new LED headlight designs, along with updated brake lights around the rear that come in the shape of the Mercedes 3-pointed star.
Step inside and you’d be forgiven for thinking you were sitting in a top-of-the-range Merc! The huge infotainment screen mimics the hyper screen found in an EQS, although in this instance it’s called the ‘Superscreen’ as the size is a bit smaller. There’s also the option extra to add a screen on the dash for the passenger, and there’s a choice of quality materials to add to the cabin for those looking to customise their E-Class.
There are a number of petrol, diesel and hybrid engine choices available for the new E-Class. The entire range comes with a 2-litre 4-cylinder engine, and all come with a form of hybrid tech. Entry-level models come with mild-hybrid technology, while there are also some plug-in hybrids available. The range-topper is the E400 e, where the engine & motor combine to deliver 381hp. This edition can also fly to 60mph in 5.3 seconds.
A flagship 6-cylinder is also in the works, which is likely to be the new AMG E63. But as of yet, we don’t have details on when that will be released.
The new E-Class is due to be released in Summer 2023, and although Mercedes hasn’t released the price yet, you can expect the range to start from around £50,000. But will it be better than the oh-so-impressive last gen? Stick with Mat to see for yourself!

I have the A6 and I love it so im gonna be biased
The 2017 model is still unbeatable for me.
Honestly
Agree
The pre-facelifted W213 is my favourite version of the E Class, with the 63s version being my top AMG model. I'd definitely take either W213 over this.
W211 is the best

ah yes, the "we removed 80% of the buttons and replaced them with this absolutely massive screen and called it luxury"
It's such a problem that modern luxury cars don't look grand or special, everything is becoming too minimalistic and digital.
Yes... Finally... We're all talking abt it... It's like a cost cutting gimic... The only German manufacturer still using buttons esp for the ac is porsche... That's priorities
Purely money saving. Tesla started it, now everyone has followed. I couldn't imagine having this amount of money to spend on a car and not be able to get some fecking buttons....

You have to admit. I have the W213 pre-face lift version, but the executive model is just perfect, star on the hood makes it a real star
E-Class always been the sweetspot in the merc range. I like that this one stands out as I can't tell a difference between the others.
Those weird lights actually make it look slightly unique. Not like the A-class, C-class and S-class which all look identical
all of them will be identical for new version ahhahaha
Just wait and those weird lights will be spread at all Mercedes cars.
Imagine the new E-class tail lights came from a Chinese car brand, what do you think people will say? 😆
@@BruninMalvadeza the a and s class just got new versions with different lights. L take
Y'all acting as if nobody could tell a C Class from an S Class apart but car's having a totally different look 🤦🏻♂️ Never understood this argument It's the same brand there gotta be similarities throughout the line up just how people see no the difference on a A4 & A8... well open your eyes mate
W213 pre-facelift was the peak of all the E-Classes for exterior design (imo), that front light was so cool, liked the 3-stripe taillights too. Interior? Same. I already MISS them buttons, switches, knobs....
Yep. Which is good for me. I can enjoy my pre-facelift w213 without wanting to change it with w214. :) IMO w213 pre-facelift looks better inside and outside. I am not a fan of that all touchscreen madness. There is enough of technology put in w213 already.
Disagree. W212 facelift is still the best looking and most reliable.
@@forspacepalace trash interior tho
@@forspacepalace along with W211, this thing looked quite underrated.
I agree. Pre-Facelift W213 is beautiful!
Personally I prefer the previous rear and front lights, but I think the new grille, especially the chrome bars one, looks very sharp 😍
The W211 and W212 still better than this E Class.
I picked up my brand new E300e from the dealer today. Nice coincidence that the W214 is presented at the same day. And I'm damn glad that I got one of the last S213 :D
I own the facelift W212 and for me, it is perfect. The looks, the comfort and the room inside make it a perfect retirement car. 👍
The 212 is the best e-class they made. But that’s only if you don’t count the 124.
What does this "e" means in 400e? Is it fully electric motor or hybrid?

Those headlights remind me of the 210 and 211’s headlights. I really like it.
I feel like the previous-gen facelift with the fishmouth-grille came out just a year ago. Nothing beats the pre-facelift though; the massive screen it already had is still not outdated, and the design was true, classy mercedes. Loved the "star-spangled" taillights, especially visible on the saloon version, that no other Mercedes had.
MB designer: How many 3 spokes do you want on the new E class? MB: yes
Too many stars and LEDs like something out of MTVs Pimp My Ride. Xibit and Mad Mike must have been the designers of this new E Class.

another great vid Mat, always excited when i get a Carwow notification. Plus I still think the 2017 e class is more iconic
8:02 It’s not about length, it’s about girth too 😂😂😭 Mat is having a bit too fun while making these
"Most High-tech ever"... sounds like trouble to me 😁. Beautifully balanced design. As the former E-classes should have been.
Those new styling,of the lights gives it a unique look from other models.
There's something charmingly nostalgic about these headlights, reminding me of w210, w211 and w212. Anyway a great looking car, subtle and confident design completing some visual innuendos of its closest predecessor. Can't wait to see it on the road, especially AMG's take.
That's very true and it's very clear they want us to reminisce to the 210, 211, ans 212, even tho I hate the interior and (maybe) the tail lights and headlights, I can't really hate the car cause at least they tried to finally make the E class unique again😒
@@TheDonYG the Audi A6 and the Mercedes W211 are equally cool.
@@purwantiallan5089 a blacked out A6/S6/RS6 is beautiful. I've never driven A6 or any 6, never driven W211 of any variant, but I would love to drive a W211. I have a W210 E320, but I wish I had the 430 or 55 😭
Damn i was about to watch the unveiling stream, but you beat me to it. The E class looks like it's back to it glory days from the W212. This car is beautiful inside and out.
Pre-face lift or face lift W212?
Can't wait to see Mat reviewing this Mercedes E-Class and drag racing it!
Do you fantasise about Matt you weird bot😮
“Whether you love chrome… or you absolutely adore the stuff” killed me 😂😂😂
I like it. A lot. The curving rear glass reminds me of the CL...if anybody remembers that. It was a gorgeous hunk of a machine that. Honestly, this is a good looking Merc. Different from anything currently offered by the company.
CL accelerating was a feeling to be remembered.
I'm not too sure about the design of the headlights. They kind of remind me of BMW headlights from the early 2000s, but they're slightly angled upwards, and the bottom portion of the housing just looks too "wave-like" if that makes any sense. It's more noticeable on a brightly colored spec as you see at the beginning of the video, as opposed to a spec that's black or dark blue. I'd obviously have to see it in person to make a better judgment. I would also like it if there were more physical buttons in the cabin. Of course, you don't want to go overboard with the buttons like in the Aston Martin Vantage, but having a few tactile buttons makes the interior feel more premium in my opinion. I bet the super screen and hyper screen are amazing pieces of technology, but they're a bit too excessive if you ask me. xD
Yeah i don’t understand how they can use touch buttons on the steering wheel. Physical buttons are much better.
Mat should definetly review the car with that interior camera😆
the exclusive trim just looks amazing...it just transforms the E class for what it is compared to the AMG line
so right
@@kobbycrentsil2859 the E Class imo has $70k in price trim.
@@purwantiallan5089 yeah and will easily reach $80-100k with options which is why it isn't for everyone, if you are price conscious of these cars, then you're in the wrong category in the first place

W211 was the best looking IMO. Quad headlights, sleek styling. And there is no way to get it confused with a C class like the newer models. I hate that they make all their sedans look alike now.
W212 beats it
Agree. To this day I still think of a light blue w211 with panoramic sunroof that I walked past every day on my way to college in 2006. The car oozed class and quality. The new ones are more tech than anything else. I wish these premium brands would do more basic but high quality cars like the w211 again.
@@rnburley Haha I feel the same and love the exact same E Class you describe. My friend's parents got one back in 2003 and it was the most beautiful car ever to me.
Yep, totally. Unmistakably Mercedes, E Class and AMG engine is the best (M113k).
Does the self park include parallel park in the UK? I just bought a GLB and it has been switched off by MB. I believe it has been applied to all new MBs

Have you got this comment saved? Bot😂
i love it. i actually like this more than the previous ones because it looks decididly different from the C and S class.
It's funny because that's the reason I don't like it. For me the outgoing one, especially in a dark colour, as an estate in E400D guise is a perfect sleeper. Unobtrusive, anonymous and quick when required. The fact it can be mistaken for the herds of C class running around like roaches is perfect for my requirements.
Amazing car the Mercedes just thrills me always
Does anyone remember when I think a Mercedes or Range Rover had that screen in the middle which would show 2 different things based on where you where looking at it from? So the driver could have the satnav and the passanger a movie on the same screen. What happened to that? That was cutting edge, this adding screens isn't so inpressive when everyone already has a nice quality screen in their pocket and a few more at home...
True that was some truly impressive screen tech. I’m not sure I would want to be staring at an 8K screen while on the road instead of enjoying the scenery outside in unlimited-K.
the old dash with the wood finish and physical buttons just can't be replaced by a massive expanse of screen
The W211 e class is my all time favorite, and I like this bc it reminds me of that one.
Not a fan of the headlights But I like the overall look😊
I don’t like the front lights, maybe they will grow on me. The wavey line at the bottom of them just looks a bit late 90s to me
Beautiful new E Class. Nice design , good motors (if you get money), fabulous interior design with the higher requirements in manufacturing and assembly . Full success.
Beautiful car this is. Interior is very impressive.
I'm worried for the E63...
3 cylinder hybrid
It is rumored to be a 6 cylinder engine (M256 in the previous e53) paired with a P3 Hybrid. Sadly No V8
You not the only one😢
It will be 6 cylinders. Always remember, the Nissan gtr is a 6 cylinder, so you can make some magic happen.

I had a loaner 2021 E350 loaded with the Burmeister audio system. What a system! Great clarity and imaging. Beautiful pearl white paint with designo white quilted nappa leather. Feels like I was enveloped in a white cloud. The large display was stunningly showy but a bit fiddly to learn. I was really enjoying this vehicle until I used full throttle …..then that unmistakable 4cylinder harmonics and peaky powerband showed itself. Very disappointing for such a nice car to be powered by 4 hamsters. I miss the old inline 6. Thankfully it was only 3 days and my W211 E63 was singing that sweet baritone V8 to me. Made me appreciate it that much more!

The front amg line one its probably the most beautiful E-class till now with the back from the old S coupe its even better.😊
I currently drive a c238 (213 Gen) e-coupe. I believed the 213 E was the best car in the world. There's definitely things I like about this new car! Overall, its a clear step backwards - just like every other new-gen benz. There's just so many things they got wrong and should know better. Fake exhaust! (please, if this was the only problem, I would deal with it). Piano black has not only crept into every crevasse of the interior (like the corporate seat control panels), but now the grille. I think in some regards, they nail the exterior. But the lights are too flashy and don't have the signature E-class identity. The previous gen lights (either before or after the facelift) were better. The flush door handles would be cool if they worked reliably. On the interior, it just looks like the new corporate design without enough distinction to the other cars. It squarely falls into the electric car futuristic tropes that nobody likes. It features no architecture like the yachtlike designs of the 222 S and the 213 E. Even though I am proficient at touchscreens while driving, it's a shameful missed opportunity to feature crisp, tactile touch points, which would increase the luxury. Instead we get piano black plastic and capacitive touch which literally nobody wants and they know this! My brother is an MB technician and he was very disappointed with the interior quality of the new EQE and EQS - I'm not optimistic that it will be better in this car. I am going to reserve final judgment for the reviews, but they are making deliberate and obvious mistakes. It's so frustrating that they know how to make good cars and don't. It's not like another brand that doesn't have the knowledge. I will be sticking with this gen cars until they come back to the light or buy a BMW.
Absolutely love it! So glad you can now distinguish it from the other models. Just hope the lease prices come down from their current sky high rate, so I can afford one again.
I get the rear lights, 3 pointed star, Mercedes signature logo. Gotta say though, they look weird... Not sure if I like the rear lights at all.
I own a 2014 E350 4matic Coupe. I love it. This new design is amazing though, I wish they weren't discontinuing the E-Coupe. To me its the perfect balance of Grand Touring and Sports car. Quiet comfy and elegant, but still athletic and muscular.
Really hope the UK market actually gets the upright star back. Such a shame that UK buyers have been deprived of that option for many years now.

I prefer the exclusive line too. The AMG line looks too much EQS.
I agree, I like the return of the bonnet mounted 3 pointed star too, gives it an air of grace and superiority and you immediately know that the car is a Mercedes and a cut above the rest. I think the proportions are excellent as you say, but would love an old analogue binnacle and buttons, not a fan of all the ipads.

@Der DEUTSCHE your opinion only, a well kept w211 will out last this new e-class. Actually w203 c class is also better build quality than this new car..
@KingofInterns But the W211 had so many issues, especially the pre-facelift model. It's a great car but is requires a lot of maintenance and was not cheap to run like the 210. The W210 facelift is way better than the W211 if we don't count the rust issues of the 210.
@Mbz / will agree that air suspension had issues but otherwise thought they were fairly bulletproof. 2005/2006 e55 at least. I had c55 which is basically like the w210 e55 in a facelift w203/a209 chassis with similar levels of refinement and simplicity minus the rust
@KingofInterns Yeah, the E55 w211 is a tank. I'm talking about the known issues (sbc, abc suspensions, air suspension, electronics).
