Meet the all-new BMW XM!
It’s the first BMW M-exclusive SUV, and Mat’s about to find out if it’s worth the eye-watering £147,000+ price tag!
For starters, let’s check out the design - and there’s no denying it’s certainly eye-catching! With a huge grille with horizontal slats up front, the XM looks like an absolute beast! There’s gold trim to be found from the front to the rear, and around the back, you’ll even find stacked horizontal tailpipes!
The impressive looks continue on the inside too, with a huge curved infotainment screen, super-comfy leather sports seats, and soft-touch materials throughout the cabin. There’s even a futuristic 3D-printed headliner!
Under the bonnet, you’ll find an almighty 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can produce 653hp and 800Nm of torque. Although in the future a Label Red edition is due which will produce 748hp!
So it’s all pretty impressive, right? But is it really worth around £150,000?! Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

  • I love how the designers really put effort into making the vehicle look like something a 6 yr old would make out of legos... none of the design elements go together! There's just random pieces and bits of design all mismatched and chunked together, truly something you would see from a mismatched lego creation a child made.

  • The bespokes for MG is a classic hybrid of the exterior of the M car prototypes. The IX had a great series with the front rear cylinder designation suspension that gave some real stability to the rear front hydraulics

  • 650hp from a plug in hybrid is disappointing. It needed to be closer to 800hp seeing as the engine itself should be making 650hp itself as it's the same unit in the M5 CS

    • Actually it's not the same engine as the M5 CS. This has the brand new S68 vs the M5 that used the S63. Both 4.4l but the S68 is supposed to be more efficient and emissions compliant

  • Unlike other car manufacturers who consistently produce unique and daring concepts (i.e. Cadillac) and never bring them to market, BMW has the courage to do just that. The XM is bold and beautiful and let's be honest it requires a driver/owner with the confidence not to care what others think.

  • I'm astonished as to how or why BMW is convinced that making their cars look like off-brand angry birds is a good idea. Every new one that comes out looks fuglier than the last one, but it's not making the earlier fugly models look any better either. I miss my first real car which was a certified pre-owned 428i xDrive finished in imperial blue with the m-sport package that I bought my senior year of college. I traded it in for an Audi A5 Sportback, but kept tabs on it because I wanted to buy it back one day. The next owner totaled it less than a year later in Nov. 2022 so I can't buy it back, and I won't even entertain the idea of buying another one for a long, long, loooonnnnggg time - it's somewhat heartbreaking if I'm honest.

    • @@JStryker7 I would have gone for a Guila if the trunk wasn't so shallow. Cross shopped for one when I bought the BMW and when I bought my Audi. I needed more practicality at the time, and the A5 sportback was as close to an RS6 as I could get/afford since BMW lost their gift of sight... and taste... and marketing... and the value of retaining their customers... and ability to hear feedback.........

    • It's even more absurd when you read through an article from BMW head designers saying art is subjective and their design was suppose to be a bold statement not beautiful. Which is bizarre to me because at the end of the day it still a product you have to sell to the customers.

    • Especially the re-designs of their high-end models have all been horrendous. They don't even share the same design language anymore, looks like they're from different manufacturers. IMO, the BMW 3/4 series received the most decent overhaul...

    • @@NBASFAN the thing is that BMW has now shifted it's focus from it's traditional customers. Now they're focusing more on the Chinese and the South Asian market. Their new buyers don't really care about how ugly it looks coz mostly they don't have much idea of design. All they care about are features, tech and the BMW badge. So even though the BMW's now are just hideously ugly, but in terms of design, they are visually loud and that is what attracts most of their new buyers. It's a great show off tool for them.

  • I didn’t think BMW could do any worse after the mess they made with the 1 Series etc and then the huge beaver grills on the M3/M4, but they actually have done a lot worse. This thing may be impressive from an engineering standpoint but it is ghastly to look at 🤮

    • Same thoughts. It looks like from some time BMW is throwing away all the basics of good styling (harmony of lines, good use of shapes and curves with purposefully transitions). Vertical exhaust is quite unusual but looks like it was taken from their motorbike division (BMW F900R or GS 1250) and the recent one is just ugly. Lots of cheap glossy black plastics, oddly looking "M" badge (it is too close to the middle that it should be just be placed under the light, more on the side). This one reminds me a little bit of gaming PC - flashy, lots of RGB lights, pricy and - for most of the time - totally pointless. Performance is there but the looks and design... no words.
