  • The biggest takeaway is Magnus is natural. If you factor in bodyweight, Magnus is vastly stronger than most steroid using power athletes. Very impressive.

People have to understand that even though he didn't do any gym weight training he has been rock climbing for decades and they aren't an hour a day thing. Him and his sister are both incredibly strong climbers who have trained their entire lives. He has said that he struggled with the weight/eating aspect of it in the past which is a far more common issue in climbing but he clearly doesn't now. Again, he just has no incentive to do so. He's just a content creator and businessman now.

    • Magnus himself well tell you that he is not particularly strong for a top level climbers, and that he is not particularly strong compared to when he was training seriously and at his strongest. He just happens to be the only top level climber making this kind of content. If anything what really separates Magnus from other top level climbers is his pinch strength, Some of these guys can crank out reps of perfect form one arm front levers, do weighted pull-ups with more weight, have stronger fingers, etc. We know this factually just based on Magnus being tested by Lattice Training and being fairly mid level compared to the current top climbers, coming with the strength metrics that would indicate he can boulder around v13, which is coincidently his hardest boulder grade sent. For example, comparing Magnus to someone of equal body weight like Will Bosi, Magnus was pulling 104% bodyweight half crimp one handed for finger strength tests, where as someone like Will, who boulders v17 was pulling 124% bodyweight. Then you have some bigger top climbers like Jimmy Webb who boulders v16, and is 170lb, and would be dramatically stronger than Magnus just not just in terms of pure strength, but also stronger pound for pound. Magnus has made a few videos with some of the really top climbers just to showcase the difference. It's amazing how strong people can get. That takes absolutely nothing away from Magnus, who is amazing and freakishly strong. It's hard to image BUT there are climbers out there that are his size, and 20% stronger than him.

      @shawnington@shawnington10 ай бұрын
    • @shawnington yeah suee there are some, but the vast majority aren't that strong. Most international level comp boulderers can't do a one arm pull up. Most high level climbers specialize in a style. You cherry picked two elite (not just top level, but elite) climbers to prove that magnus isn't as strong? I'm not even tlakijg about finger metrics, which ofc he will be lacking a. retirement and b. He was never a boulderer anyway, but a lead climber so he won't have as high overall finger strength as someone who needs to do a v15 boulder move. I was talking about muscle groups; ability to pull, explosiveness, relative strength etc. Which he undeniably has more than others. Not saying your points are invalid, I judd don't think you got what I meant or I didn't express myself clearly enough

In no sport whatsoever, be it strength related or otherwise have I witnessed the larger mass being to an advantage of endurance. Larger muscles require much more oxygen, thus resulting in a need for heavier less controlled breathing which saps endurance. It's the reason why much larger muscled athletes tend to visibly gas sooner than smaller framed more marathon built physiques.

It's easy for people to say things like "you're not good because you don't put in the work," but there's another side to it that you need to remember, which is that the people who put in more work just like doing it and want to do it. So it's a little less of a proposition about who is more disciplined and more about who is there for the love vs. for the fame, money, etc. Because the worse person might actually be more disciplined, they have to put in more of the mentally taxing energy of doing something that they don't love, but they get lower output than someone who feels an internal compulsion to participate.

    • @MdoubleHB I know that you don't really care about the facts but imma say this anyway for anyone who might be convinced by your, what's the politically correct way to say it? "Your super powerdness"? literally no negative health benefits to consuming a substance in general, everything has doses and effects that come at that dose, so you saying "guaranteed" is just a lie, it also depends on the part of the animal, for example you could safely eat over a dozen kilograms of lean beef meat every week with no negative health effects if you're healthy in all other aspects, but eating just 7 kilos of cow liver every week will kill you if you just carry on doing it. Also there are billions of people on the planet right this second who are unable to even afford a healthy amount of food right now, and vegan food is a lot more (and like a LOT more) expensive if you wanna get the same nutrients, meaning objectively speaking you encouraging everyone to go vegan, is encouraging at least 900 million people to kill themselves. Very cool of you man. Also also even if we magically made vegan food the same price the shift in production and the loss of trillions, that's trillions with a T of dollars in the world's economy, which on it's own would definitively increase the amount of impoverished people on the planet, that's of course ignoring the fact that every single person who used to work in the meat industry wouldn't have a job any more, which at minimum tens of millions of people, who you don't want to be able to work. also also also, vegan farming requires a lot (and again it's a lot with a capital L.O.T.) more land to produce the same yield, in terms of protein production, even dozens of times the amount of land is needed when compared to even cattle farms that let the cows graze, Meaning again, objectively speaking, even in a magic world where vegan food becomes the same cost for the same nutrients as an omnivorous diet, and you magically give every single person who used to work in the meat industry a job with the same pay, and you magically pull all of the money lost in the economy out of your ass and distribute it correctly so as not to create negative effects, You would STILL have 2 issues that would undoubtedly lead to the death of millions of people: 1: land would become worth WAY more, since way more of it is needed, meaning millions of people go homeless 2: there simply is not enough space in certain countries for the required farmlands, meaning either a large portion of each of those countries' people die, or, that country will import a shit ton of food, obviously leading to a massive hit to that countries economy, which said country won't be able to handle considering all your magic veganism would quite literally divide the number of humans needed to overpopulate a given area by several dozen times.This one also likely leads to many wars btw, since people are assholes and if millions of people's lives depend on the farms you own you'll likely bump up the price since people are forced to either pay it or die. "Cooked food caused and maintains the fall of mankind!" When exactly do you think mankind fell? Since as far as I can tell we're doing better than literally every before, in every.single.metric. aside from maybe the effectiveness of justice and education systems, but those are usually bad specifically because they were made a long time ago. I'd also like to know at which point in human history humans were vegan for, and for what purpose do you think we have canine teeth? "Raw vegan nutrition is the salvation of humanity" Ah that makes sense. Fun fact: the number 1 determiner of iq is how fell fed you are as an infant, and things such as oxygen deprivation and lack of protein even by small margins can over time lead to permanent brain damage? Now picture this: random vegan(MdoubleHB for example) eating a leaves off of trees, since leaves are harder to chew, the vegan chews for much longer, incidentally breathing less, now this isn't the end of the story, the vegan has to eat much more weight in leaf than the human has to in steak, so this vegan eats and eats the leaves, not breathing enough the entire time, and by the end of the day of eating leaves, the vegan finally reaches the minimum recommended daily intake of protein, there's just one issue, since the vegan has suffered a lack of focus due to improper breathing, it forgot that cholesterol is needed long term to digest protein, and there's no cholesterol in leaves, but the vegan has only eaten leaves for months. This causes a process to take place in the body of the vegan, a metamorphosis if you will, now at first glance you might assume it is simply a decrease in cognitive function, and you'd be right, but this is the vegan's strategy for reproduction. Once the vegan enters this state, it will begin to seek out "safe spaces" if you will, these are areas where the vegan might be able to reproduce, or in other words, areas in which a person who receives information from the vegan, will likely not fact check the information. This vegan in particular has chosen "the KZhead comments section" since the only possible downside to this method is injury to the vegan's ego, which in the case of vegan's can be quite severe, but when compared to attempts to convince others to become vegan in real life, the youtube comments section is a calm life for the vegan. Once a sufficiently susceptible human comes across the mating signals of the vegan, the human will develop a curiosity toward the lifestyle of the vegan, which in rare cases of overactive empathy or underactive frontal cortexes, will slowly give birth to a new vegan, allowing the process of life to repeat.

  • Magnus strenght is superhuman. To think that the more you do theses machines, the more you are able to pull just because you get used to it, and he goes there for the first time and pulls more than Larry and Juji.

    @naivet@naivet11 ай бұрын
    • Whoa there, cowboy. He didn't "pull more" than Larry or Juji, per se. In the pull-down he did a few more reps than Juji based on the "strict form criteria" they were following and one rep more than Larry. Pound for pound is that incredibly impressive for someone who typically doesn't train that? Sure. Magnus is a beast. But to say he pulled more, connotes he did and could lift more than them, which he certainly cannot. Not in absolute strength, anyway. And there's no shame in that. I just notice people too often read too much into reps. Reps are great for building volume, endurance and hypertrophy but it's a long-standing gym myth that they are the definition of "strength." Logically, in theory, is your rep out max supposed to be higher, the bigger your 1 or 2 rep max is? Usually, but not always, because not everyone trains for that.
