Devon isn't afraid to dish out a genuine compliment. He isn't afraid to admit defeat either - with no excuses. These are just two of the many attributes that make him such a wonderful person.
OzzProg he is a pro in all sorts of ways
And a good teacher too, does not ever come accross as condescending - just genuinely helpful
I love that he’s always in a good mood and happy, he just looks like a good soul that’s happy no matter what he’s doing.
I love that attitude.
And that's why he's the champion

I love seeing collabs with Devon, he's a scary beast in competition but he's so chill and humble when he's doing anything else.
He's basically the Professor Hulk version of Edward Norton's Hulk :D
He's such a POS to his opponents when he's competing, but seems so wholesome in normal life
I think he's chill in competitions as well. mostly trash talk and just having fun
the hanging is straightening devons arms out slowly, if he kept it up he might eventually regain full motion
Magnus: World-class climber Anton: World-class ninja Devon: World-class arm wrestler Juji: World-class good guy
Juji said in one of his videos that if you want to be successful you need to be in top 1-5% in your field for people to notice you. But if you are in top 20% in 3 or more fields, then you are something unique. He is flexible, powerlifter, armwrestler, and can do backflips and other tricks.
@@suncu91 let's not forget he's got a black belt in taekwondo :P
Juji is not a world class gymnast nor a world class bodybuilder, but he might be top 10 in the world of both things combined in a single person
Juji is like the center of a Venn Diagram. His powerlifting numbers aren't record breaking, but they're certainly higher than I've seen in my gym. At the same time, he has the athleticism to do tricking with the flexibility of a yoga person. His one weakness is ball sports lol
@@dan1e1473 fuck body building who gives a shit
Why are the "strongest" men always the nicest sounding dudes? I imagine, you don't have to flex when you're at the top already.
Usually the guys who are mean and treat people badly are insecure. True alpha males are the sheepdogs that take care of their pack and those around them. They have nothing to prove, and show their strength through their actions, not acting like they are someone when they are not. Just have to take one look at Brian Shaw that guy is one of the strongest men ever to walk the earth and one of the nicest.
There is a Swedish strongman (actually has a silver in World's strongest man) called Magnus Samuelsson. Incredible guy and soo humble in talkshows, interviews and other TV-shows. He also went on the Swedish version of "Dancing with the Stars" which he and his partner won.
@@hamfeldt93 I am a big fan of Magnus Samuelson. I uses to watch him on WSM. He had what was considered the strongest arms in the world at one point.
Everyone here makes good points but it's also important to remember that in order to get where they are, there's a lot of failure involved which really humbles a man.

"I'm gonna keep the climbing to a minimum today. I am however going to CLIMB THE HARDEST BOULDER IN THE GYM" alright Magnus you damn mutant
And not only that but he flashed it
There's one I think might be harder. This is my home gym so I've stared at a lot of these routes.
Rasmus Hielscher it takes less energy to flash than to put in multiple attempts
He's a V13 boulderer. The hardest in this gym is around V9/V10 range. Grade growth isn't linear: it might not be as fast as exponential but the gap between grades increases as grade level increases. So the hardest stuff in this gym is well below his max.

This really is a demonstration of how STRONG Magnus is. He glides up walls up the walls through the complications with such grace. Devon did amazing for his size. His courage and determination are great tools. And Juji is just pure athleticism. He is such a specimen. Great men all together!
You can see when Magnus is on the wall his muscles are nothing like what you see in any gym, there are so numerous, thin but long, intertwined, varied and dense, you see muscle you don't even know exist versus the inflatable muscles that you can count on one hand on typical 'look at me' gym buffs.
@@ericastier1646do you not know what body fat percentage is? Obviously a climber whose always burning calories will have more muscle fiber definition
@@BoBo-pl3ww body fat is a false topic here, you get the muscle you use, body fat is only a cover it won't change the muscle definition. And wrong, to have such richly varied lean and long muscle has nothing to do with calorie burning but how varied the exercises are. No gym lifting machine can touch real practical sports like climbing. It only builds muscles that can be counted on a one hand instead of building a multitude.
Rewatching this 2 years later, Devon definitely could've been a climber in another life. That send at 11:20 is such great footwork for a non-confident climber in rental shoes

Checked his ego at the birth canal, never seen him be anything but humble
The only thing I've ever seen him have the slightest ego about is arm wrestling. Obviously that is earned and deserved.

Yeah, it's called exhibitionism. It's what he does best. That and taking off his shirt.
It's amazing that devon cant straighten his arm out because of all the arm wrestling and how his whole body has centralised for performance
For Devon it's more of accumulated injuries. Bone spurs get in the way of his elbow joint straightening. Not because of tight or over developed musculature or ligature.

Ive always seen clips of Larrat and he seems like a great guy, but in doing some research, holy crap what an interesting dude. Awesome to see that he's Canadian like me, but not only that, this dude served for the armed forces in *JTF-2* , which is easily the most badass group in the Canadian armed forces by a long shot (the type of group where active members don't show their faces or reveal their names if interviewed, should be a sign they mean business). Incredible respect to this beast of a man.
Devon is insane!! Such a strong guy, interesting to see that he has the “same” muscles but is completely different and hard for him at the same time!!
Which is why I think climbing might be the best way to grow your muscles.. I've only gone to the gym and I wouldn't last an hour climbing. I think you get so versitile in your movement and your muscles can do so much more than if you'd only lift weights.. I'll have to give this stuff a try!
@@jsbfkdls You can try climbing in combination with the gym. You will grow climbing muscle and hit the gym for other groups. It is a lot of fun and good motivation to exercise.
@@Shinjiwwl Yea thats a good idea, doing both would probably give the best results and at the same time be fun with climbing
@@jsbfkdls Go for it mate, I'm doing both and it's awesome. Personally, I can't climb more than 2 times a week because your fingers take pretty much damage due to the friction on the holds, so combining the gym with rock climbing is awesome. It's such a social sport too.
From observation rather than experience I think size and build makes a huge difference as well. Like Juju is crazy strong , but bulky so he has more to lift and a definite low center of gravity. Climbing needs really strong abs as well as limberness and hand, finger, arm, and shoulder strength. (yeah, I am way too analytical). Climbing uses all your muscle groups at the same time. I think you really see the core or ab strength going into effect in climbing is when you see Magnus practically hanging like a bat yet his stomach is still close to the wall. I'm afraid of heights so I will never test this theory, but the whole process fascinates me.
Whenever Devon finished a new route I catched myself smiling. What a great personality all those guys have.

@v KEITH v Sure, but he also trains his arms with ridiculous weight. Just go look at some of his training videos, he lifts strongman-level weight using 2" roller handles.
Strong indeed, but it's also true that arm wrestling and climbling share a lot of same muscle group, such as grip strength and forarm strength, may make it a little bit easier
You dont know shit about arm wrestling dont you?

its honestly crazy how much mobility juji has when doing stuff like this. he hasso much mass, yet moves so smooth and gracefully, alot of people dont appreciate how hard it is to do everything as well as he does. i've been 6'2" sincemy sophmore year of highschool, and let me tell you getting used to the height alone took a while. i would constantly trip, not be able to cut tight turns, not be able to control my power when it came to shooting a basketball or taking a swing in tennis or volleyball. after a year or so i balanced out pretty well, but honestly im not even half johns size in terms of strength and height to weight ratio, and i couldnt imagine getting my body to move half as gracefully as his does.
I love watching you climb, Magnus, but I can't help but notice that your motivation seems to not only come from your passion for climbing but also from trying to prove something to someone or to prove yourself time and time again. I'm 6'3", 195lbs and a former gymnast and I don't think I'd be able to do most of those climbs at age 36. I've only tried gym bouldering once but I was surprised by how difficult it is. Size is a liability up on the wall and seeing this huge dude doing so well at age 44 is impressive.
It's a huge advantage 99% of the time. Only in very, very peculiar circumstances is size a disadvantage in climbing (if it helps to be wedged in a narrow space between hands and legs).
@@MrCmon113 yeah for beginner level height can help a lot but it evens out as you progress and I think at some point even 1,75-1,82m / 5’10”-6’1” becomes the optimal range. I think Ondra once said that 1,75 would be perfect IIRC
