    • @@SpottedCreeper That's exactly why the new regulations of soft limiters, etc. for sports cars (or other fun vehicles) are entirely meaningless - quite literally a drop of cold water on a burning mountain. Most people do not commute 100 miles a day to work and back with a 911, Huracan, Viper, Aventador, etc. ... They do it in a Golf, 3-Series, A3, and the likes; therefore, these "reasonable" models only should be affected by these emission regulations.

      @t0taalFrixx@t0taalFrixx3 жыл бұрын
    • Žiga Letonja True, but it’s kinda hard for regulators to differentiate between a 911 and a Corolla. What would be the definition of an “enthusiast” car? If that were defined, car companies would try to take advantage and try to badge all their cars as “enthusiast” cars to skirt the laws. And you’d find some triggered car enthusiasts when they find out the government approves a Huracan as an “enthusiast” car but not an Fiesta ST

  • Matt, you've missed something important. The more you remove alertness of the driver from driving the car the less able that driver is of controlling the car. I know its nice for the passengers to relax as the car whistles down the road but that is not good for the driver and the safety of the passengers. A driver needs to be engaged with handling the car and yet in modern cars he/she is cosseted as if they were a passenger. Touch screens are particularly a danger as they require the driver to look at the display. I think all controls should be tactile so that the driver can operate them and keep their eyes on the road. I have been shocked by large SUVs bowling past on rain-soaked motorways when there is standing water and yet later I go past them on dry open roads since they are travelling at much the same speed they were in hazardous conditions. One of my pet hates is the person who drives at 40 in a 30 limit and then continues to drive at 40 in a 60 limit - but that is another story. Motoring as a pastime where one strives to make brisk progress safely considering all the hazards is dead, now it is "just blunder" through and hope the car saves your life when the inevitable problem arrives.

    • In Germany the Car Lobbis are blocking a speed limit on the Autobahn, blocking much stricter emmision laws and on top of that the car industry is getting a billion euros of money support every crises like for example in the corona time or in an economical break down of just 2%. Dont get me wrong...im glad that they dont put speed limits on the Autobahn but the car lobby in Germany has much more political influence than the gun lobby in the USA. On top of that the european car producers are getting bigger and richer and they are getting bigger on the stock exchange too. So the car industry isnt even beeing destroyed but getting bigger. A worth of mention is that for every stricter law in regard to cars which arent easy to stick to, the car producers are getting extra money for it. So in conclusion they arent even spending their own money to stay sticking to the regulations.

Meaning it takes longer to overtake and is generally less safe to do so. Same thing if you drive in town and have cars park on the side, the new systems try to stop and brake or pull you back in because you're technically in the middle of the road and it worries it will hit a car that is parked. If this is the case, aftermarket removal of all this bs will be abused, until they will remove the insurance if you don't have all the systems in check

  • The government is going to have to invest an awful lot of money in installing more speed limits signs around the place if these "intelligent speed limiters" are going to work. I have speed limit sign recognition in my Mk 4 Focus and so often it thinks I'm still in a 30 when I've entered a 60 zone. Worse, when leaving my local Morrison's car park it sees the 5mph sign for the car park, but there is no corresponding 30mph sign on the main road so if this limiter was enforced I would be restricted to running at 5mph on a 30mph road. Yeah, that's going to be safe...

It's sad to see real cars disappear into history and find their place in the shaddow of pure neutrality and coldness. There is not a single glimpse of love or passion found in those upcoming cars.

    • @F a safety is good but fact is less human control means better performance and safety and unfortunately less human control also means dull boring experience, so fun and raw wild experience = old, laptimes and safety and restrictions= new. I prefer mechanically natured cars with minimal electronics where all control is in the drivers hands because these are the most fun and thrilling. Just look at the prices of said cars as opposed to modern ones, a 10 year old 997 gt3rs is worth double what the brand new one is because of this and a 250 gto is worth about 50 million. And then look at what journalists and and veterans drive, nearly all older cars and they hate modern ones. The only thing you can respect from modern cars is performance not their challenging of the driver or how they bite back, even their performance has been severely limited by emissions and safety laws not allowing development properly over the past 20 years. Imagine how incredibly fast a modern v12 f1 car would be if no restrictions placed on it. Electric will be faster in future of course be needs much much more development before that happens. Anyway Yh if u want to be safe don't get a sports car get a prius and have a track car I guess if that's what u want I appreciate there's a lot more to life than fun cars.

  • What a sad state of affairs! My next car will probably have to be a fairly old used one as the essential features I'm interested in when picking a car are a real key to actually start it, a manual gearbox, a proper handbrake, analogue gauges, fog lights, four doors, tail lights positioned way below the back window, the total absence of an infotainment system and other infuriating stuff such as parking sensors. All things considered, I believe the most likely result is that I'll just stop driving altogether. I mean, it's still going to be expensive and cause you to deal with traffic, fines and all the bad things associated with driving, but removing any hint of fun from it, so what's the point unless you actually need to? I figure I'll just end up renting a car once in a while when I feel I have no other choice.
