  • i’m so happy someone finally explained the difference between AWD and 4x4

    @ctrl9439@ctrl94392 жыл бұрын
    • They didn't though. For one, they were talking about 4WD not 4x4. 4x4 just describes how many wheels are on the car, and how many can get power. i.e. awd subaru wrx has 4 wheels and they can all be powered, so it is 4x4, fwd corolla has 4 wheels but only two can get power so it is 4x2, trucks and tank-things can get funky with 6x4 and stuff. 4WD entails four powered wheels that are permanently locked or (more often) can be locked. In the second case, it is basically awd most of the time, but when the differentials are locked, even power will go to wheel in a pair. Without a centre-locking differential the power transmitted to the front and back pairs can differ even while each pair is locked, but most 4WD cars have a centre-locking diff that makes sure each wheel gets the exact same power regardless of the grip differences. AWD just means all wheels can get power (I believe it is also always full-time - i.e. you can't switch to 4x2), but only has open or limited slip differentials (I don't know if they can have locking centre differentials) so you can't technically give equal power to each wheel. I know this is confusing as hell. Here's some examples (the details are in a heirarchal order): Toyota Prado -4x4 -4WD -technically also AWD Honda Civic -4x2 -fwd Toyota Rav4 -4x4 -AWD

      @rolls_8798@rolls_8798 Жыл бұрын
    • Car companies like hyundai and kia just put 4wd on their awd cars(and japanese people calls every 4x4 4(yon)wd) even jeep put 4x4 on their awd cars. it's hard to tell if it is classic 4x4 or just awd these days

      @iMernerner@iMernerner Жыл бұрын
    • @@iMernerner no, I think you just don't know what the terms mean. respectfully. 4x4 and awd and 4wd mean different things

    • @@rolls_8798 car companies does not care

      @iMernerner@iMernerner Жыл бұрын
    • @@rolls_8798 1. The term AWD is used interchangeably with 4WD outside North America. As a result, some people will say a Lambo has 4WD, even though it uses a system that's really AWD if you want to make that distinction. 2. Drive systems that apply torque to all 4 wheels at least some of the time can vary widely, and manufacturers don't always follow the "rules" when marketing a vehicle as AWD or 4WD. Typically speaking, AWD vehicles are designed for slippery roads first and off-road applications second, and 4WD vehicles flip that prioritization around. In most cases, a 4x4 car (hatchback, coupe, sedan/saloon, wagon/estate, etc.) will be AWD; a 4x4 pickup truck will be 4WD (though exceptions exist), and a 4x4 SUV can commonly be either one.

      @michaelatorn8380@michaelatorn8380 Жыл бұрын
    • @supercecilia Xenon: diamond, Regular: Gold. You could use diamond for regular ones, as it is a clear color, but most experts at TÜV in germany mention that the gold version is more efficient with old lights, reaching a "quadratischer Blinkerflüssigkeitskoeffizient" (quadratic blinker fluid coefficient) of QBL^2=0.95=95%, while using diamond on them only squeezes out 85%. Diamond costs around the same as gold. Some care, some do not. If you live in germany, ask the TÜV to do it for you. If you live anywhere else, do it yourself, as it could get costly if you ask a mechanic.
