  • As a mechanic I've worked on a fair share of Audi and Bentley cars and almost all the components have VW stamps in them which is a good thing because by European car standards VW parts are affordable and easy to get. I drive a VW Golf and it actually shares certain parts with those cars, even the 2010s Bentleys had the same chimes. If i can rememberer a Bugatti Veyron has the same crank seal part number as a Golf.

    • Here in australia Europe cars are trash and vw parts are expensive. If you don’t know much about cars mechanics will scam the hell outta u here. Japanese brands like Toyota, Suzuki and Honda are the go to here and really cheap parts.

      @syrus1233@syrus1233 Жыл бұрын
    • @@syrus1233 How about American car brands there? They’re by far the cheapest parts here in Canada but Honda and Toyota are still the favoured brands here as they’re more reliable. I worked at a Toyota dealership and some components can be expensive, I replaced a mirror glass on a van and it was $520. VW parts here aren’t that expensive. The most expensive parts are from Mercedes. It’s not uncommon to pay $30 for a single bolt.

  • 1st: Sharing parts with other vehicles is the best. This is what made WV number 1. 2nd: If I'm not mistaken, Porsche was trying to buy VW but spent so much money on it they became cheap enough for VW to buy them. And I don't really care if that is not exactly what happened, such a good story shouldn't be ruined by reality. (but seriously, if you know more details about the Porschwagen story, please let me know)

    @y0y4y0@y0y4y03 жыл бұрын
    • While the situation between Porsche and VW is certainly fascinating, the statement you mentioned isn't quite accurate. Here's a breakdown of the history: Porsche's Attempt to Acquire VW: In the late 2000s, Porsche did indeed attempt a hostile takeover of Volkswagen. They secretly acquired a large stake in VW's stock, aiming to become its majority shareholder. Financial Strain: However, Porsche took on massive debt to finance this acquisition. The global financial crisis of 2008 hit them hard, and their borrowing costs skyrocketed. Reversal of Roles: Instead of overtaking VW, Porsche itself became vulnerable. They were forced to sell parts of their own business and seek financial help from... wait for it... Volkswagen! Current Situation: Today, Porsche is actually a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. The tables did turn, but not in the way your statement describes. VW didn't buy Porsche because they became "cheap," but rather as a strategic move to secure valuable assets and synergies within the automotive industry. So, while the story of Porsche and VW involves ambition, debt, and ultimately a reversal of fortunes, it's not quite about VW buying Porsche because Porsche made itself cheap. It's more about a complex series of financial strategies and power dynamics playing out in the high-stakes world of automotive giants.

  • It gets even more complicated if you look at the actual manufacturer of a car, or the manufacturer of main components like the engine or the chassis. For instance, Volvo was using Renault and Audi/VW engines for its cars, and most common rail diesel engines are based on FIAT/PSA constructions. Audi in turn is the remaining brand of Auto Union, whose four rings symbolize the four brands they originally represented: Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW. Audi also bought NSU, a maker of the Ro80, the only other mass produced Wankel car beside the Mazda R series. PSA and FIAT cooperated for a series of minivans, the Eurovan project. The resulting product was sold as the FIAT Ulysse, Lancia Zeta/Phedra, Peugeot 806/807 and Citroën Evasion/C8. PSA also cooperated with Toyota for the Toyota Aygo, Citroën C1 and Peugeot 1008. FIAT and Saab produced the FIAT Croma, Lancia Thema, Saab 9000 and (with a different design) Alfa Romeo 164. The list goes on...

Perodua cars uses Daihatsu platform with a Toyota engine, with this we basically build Toyota cars that cost almost 50% less than actual Toyota but still maintaining the same quality and reliability.

However, Daihatsu is a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyota, thus the cars that Daihatsu manufactures are technically considered Toyota cars. Lastly, the Toyota Rush is assembled in Daihatsu's Indonesia plants

Yes, in the soviet period of existing LADA was the brand for export cars for easier pronunciation but later, in the 90s, it became the name for the whole model line, as I remember, from LADA 110, first post-USSR model.
