We arrive back to our Portugal farm renovation and become parents to two new members of the Newby family! We unpack the treasures from our trip to Morocco, and finally finish our upcycle table project.

We are John, Tara, and Crusoe Newby.     • Hi Newbys! Here's Tom from Brazil. My question is: how you dealing with the portuguese language? Are you leaning it? Is it difficult for you understand/learn? Did you ever listened to brazilian portuguese before? if so, did you notice the diferences between Brazilian and european portuguese?

  • Those tiny feathery babies probably need a safe place to be rather than loose running around, very vulnerable in far too many ways. Love the tiles in the table.

    • @@TheNewbys They're a bit small to be around Crusoe to be honest, too easy for him to hurt them & they're obviously not toys. Beware Portuguese mongoose too, they'd be a tasty morsel for them & I've seen full grown chickens & a cockerell being annihilated by them on other Portuguese KZhead channels. I'd just hate to say nothing & then something tragic happen to them. 🤗🐤🦆🤗

  • My all time favorite pet was a duck named Coco. He was diaper trained and loved to come into the house and sit with us. He then acquired two little Banty hens that he got along with famously. It appears they both have imprinted on you and you are now their “flock”. The more attention you give them, the more loving they will become. Hold them as often as you can and they will come running to give you a hug when you kneel down and open your arms. Congratulations and Enjoy! Btw, the table looks awesome 🤩

  • Hello from Florida USA! BRILLIANT work John. I LOVE how the chick and duckling is following Crusoe around - SO SWEET! Tara you are ABSOLUTELY Glowing. Much love to y'all all. I know it sounds really bizarre, but getting those bamboo shoots as they are coming up (when their tender) and cooking them in a stir fry, etc. are delicious and nutritious. They certainly are sustainable lol

  • That duck will follow Crusoe for life! Some animals form an attachment to the first large moving object that they meet. See imprinting theory by Konrad Lorenz. That 45º cut is the top highlight of your master piece table. :)

  • Loving all the goodies you brought back. The bowls, tiles so pretty. The rugs are even better to me. The bag was like Mary Poppins, surprising how much can fit and what can pop out!! I’m sorry I’m going to say something negative: in old days we were warned not to eat off blue things because the blue has a lot of lead in it. So when I purchased vintage or antique things with blue had to be decorative. Modern days today and for a certain amount of time, US manufactures cannot use any glazes or paints with lead. But is that true with other countries even today? I saw the blue cereal bowl-beautiful-and I became concerned. The green one is my favorite-I mean green is my favorite color. I’m wondering if you have one of those lead testing sticks? Perhaps you could test them out for my peace of mind, and yours also. I could just gobble up Caruso! For me little ones this age can do no wrong. I loved seeing Caruso at first chasing the duck and then the turn around where he has now made an imprint and the chick and duckling think he’s their mamma/papa! So, so sweet!!   • Hi, Tara and John. When naming another rock feature, would you consider 'Molong'. It's the name of a small Australian town four hours' drive west of Sydney; and it's believed to be a Wiradjuri word meaning 'place of many rocks'. The Wiradjuri people are said to date back to 35,000 years ago -- which is about the time Homo sapiens sapiens arrived in Portugal (according to Wikipedia). 😊

  • Tamara from the Netherlands. I joint in on your first video of your beautiful house, and I have now seen all of your videos. What a lovely family you are! You guys always make me smile. Crusoe was so gentle white the chick! I'm just now learning my 2 year old daughter not to pick a ladybug or baby frock with her fingers, but let them walk up on her hand. She is SO excited, she finds it difficult to control herself but really tries to.

  • How lovely do your Moroccan finds look in Portugal! So well chosen. The way those little creatures follow you about is so gorgeous! Question: how complicated is it to buy property in Portugal? And what is the cost of living like there? Love to you all. (The chick and duckling need names…!)
