Highlights from a TRAVEL FAMILY exploring the world | The Newbys best bits of 2021
Welcome to the Newbys 2021 wrap up of what has been an extraordinary year.
2021 got off to a flying start with the arrival of our little boy Crusoe in February, a full van build followed shortly after and then a trip to the NC500 and Scotland. Next we went to Portugal for a short "holiday" where we bought some land, (we will tell you all about that today). On our return to the UK, we took a sunny trip to Wales in the now completed van. After that we stole a chicken, drove across a continent to find a £22 flight to the Middle East, there we explored one of the wonders of the world, Petra, completely alone with not a tourist in sight. Phew! After all of that we decided it was time to head to Africa where we are currently on an overland tour through several of Africas southern countries, it's all very exciting.

We are the Newbys, John, Tara, and our two little boys Crusoe and Sawyer. We’re a family who are pursuing an alternative lifestyle, and after two years of full time travel we’ve taken root on an abandoned farm in Northern Portugal which we’re renovating into our dream off-grid homestead. We release new videos every Sunday sharing our story, and we’d love for you to be a part of it with us. To many favourite memories to remember …soooo many…when the boys were having some daddy and son time in back of van and Caruso vomited…it brought back memories of my son at around the same age now 52 did the same in his fathers face and it was a lot more than Caruso did…the hitch hiker (chicken) of course all the spectacular scenery. You meeting the man who painted the photos that were on the houses in that beautiful little village Yes he was older but still looked like his photo/painting done all those years ago. I bet it meant as much to him to be able to show you as it was for you to meet him. When I watch you film clips I can almost the taste the fruits/foods chorizo and smell so many smells from heat nappies bakeries etc etc all ads to the experience Thank you for sharing which gives me so much pleasure Ingrid

I thoroughly loved this compilation of your video blogs. You guys have such a beautiful family. I love how positive you both are regardless of what was happening with Covid, it’s very inspiring. And John, you have amazing skills. I love the woodwork design in the van. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate watching your videos this past year has been a very sad year for me losing my daughter but when I watch your videos it brings a smile to my face and you don't know what that means to me thank you so much be safe I'm very grateful to you I needed to smile and feel happy and you gave me that thank you your friend Anna

Hi again. Still catching up on your travels. I especially loved the “ chicken story”. When I was young we had chickens at home and would take them on holiday to my grandparents farm in wales for the summer holidays. We always stopped halfway and found the chickens had laid eggs 😀 Thank you again for the channel

Hi guys we have been following you guys for a while, love your amazing beautiful vlogs so professional, and inspiring. Considering you have a beautiful baby boy with you, you are both amazing with what you are able to film and capture on video, truly remarkable. We have always been adventurous family with our family too, but this is definitely another level. You are certainly living all our passions at the moment. Would love to do a van self-build and buy a small property abroad for part-time living ( Spain or Portugal) after living in Oz for 5 years we miss the sun. Hi guys. It was a fast-paced and inspiring video. I hope people don’t stay home to rot, but boldly start realizing their dreams. Start though by making bread and coffee and going to eat them on the rock of your home village. That's when the adventure begins. The team has had great progress in building new life over the years. The car became absolutely brilliant and cozy. Likewise, that Portugal project is really neat. I can imagine how much enthusiasm is enough. I myself get power from active brave people. I am also going according to plan. In the long run, you just have to develop that dream of your own every day. I am completely moving into a motorhome to live in. I hope during 2022. Hi Denise, lots of exciting things going on in 2022. Portugal will be a renovation of sorts, we should be getting there around April time. Some travel to Morocco of course to buy some fun bits and pieces for the house. Before that we must finish off our African road trip and maybe head to India. Let’s see. Crusoe is very different from Sawyer. My guess is Crusoe is more like John’s family and Sawyer is more like Tara’s. Both are beautiful children. I am so glad you are renovating the buildings rather than tearing them down and happy you are living in them and rejuvenating that gorgeous property.

Morning John, so great to hear from you. 2022 will almost certainly be one filled with adventure. Portugal is calling, but maybe not until April time. Lots to do first. Then of course we can only be in Portugal a few months before the visa runs out. We don’t think to far into the future ever, things change all the time and so planning for the uncertainty is tricky. Of course Crusoe must learn his maths etc maybe he does that in India though, or Uzbekistan, or Portugal, or even…. The UK! Hi Newby's... another great video ... my favorite was the chicken video. Tara's face was perfect (how long does it take to clean up all of the "mess". But it was fun. Can we do it again, this time without the chicken. 🤭🤭🤭🐓🐓🐓. It is truly amazing how diverse and stunning the landscape of the earth is. Tara... I have a question... who's the bigger kid, John or Crusoe. I loved how John had to dodge Crusoe's projectile. Did you know that Petra had it's own "viaduct" system carved into the rock cliffs to bring water to the city. Plus Petra is huge for a dessert city.

Very emotional 2021 for most of us due to the lockdowns and pandemic, you were courageous enough to overcome your fears and continue your adventures with van life and little Crusoe with you. I discovered you last week on your trip to Scotland, could not believe you both would take your 6 weeks baby on such a trip. Chapeau as this say in French. Bravo and almost18 months later in your new home in Portugal. Very emotional for me as for you for sure when you go back in time and revisit your journeys and highlights. Wow how time flies revisiting the best of 2021 when Crusoe was a small baby now frolicking around with his small brother Sawyer on your farm in Portugal. Always very nice to go back in time with Safari also. Blessings to you all as 2023 comes to end in 3 months times.🙏🥰🌄🏡 🇵🇹 was in Israel and Petra, Jordan in 2019, last trip because of covid.
