Portugal trip goes from Green to Amber | Travelling abroad PCR advice and Fit to Fly
In this weeks episode we head to Portugal, leaving the van life and the van build behind for a while. Crusoe has his first ever flight, and we give you the ins and outs of PCR tests and how to travel to a country on the UK green list.
We watch Crusoe roll over, and stay in a tree house, before learning that a green travel country can very easily turn to an amber travel country.
With big decisions to make a phone call to a good friend called Carla who lives in Portugal helps us realise that traffic lights often mean you need to slow down or stop. The more we think about it, the more we know we are in search of an open road, one with out any traffic lights that heads far, far into a horizon.
Was it a Chinese proverb or just ancient wisdom that teaches us about the journey and not the destination?

We hope that this series inspires anyone out there thinking of building their own van to just give it a go. We have learnt everything we know just from trying. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but, if you put your mind to something then we believe anything is possible.

@@TheNewbyswow going back in time 2 years ago now when little Crusoe just did a turnover, well that tree house sure now will give you ideas for the Tree House on your farm for the boys to play. Side note, what it is that babies when so young are just so cute....nothing to take away from Crusoe now but I have to admit my friend was not wrong. @@TheNewbys I have always liked Portugal. I like the idea of moving close to the coast that there is a strong feeling of the sea in the body at all times. And first I go to shoot Nazare waves in the fall or spring when the sea thunders .... aaaahhhh :) ... the best. It is unfortunate that Portugal fines VanLife people and drives away. Should always go to the camping area. I'd rather be in the bush. Gotta paint the car in off-road colors so the police can't see :)
What a good support you are to each other. I really enjoy traveling with you both. At 70 years plus and a knee that challenges me..my world travels and with COVD are limited. My husband and I have enjoyed so many travels over the last 40 years…now we can travel the world thru your videos! Thank you and well done!

What an experience waking up in a tree house, when we lived in South Wales I built a tree house myself at the age of 10 but never slept in it, too scary at that age , I had just finished it before I had to be rushed to Carmarthenshire hospital to have appendix removed, when recovered my friend and sister and I sat up there making a guy for our bonfire night, happy memories. 👍❤️

The tree house suits you so perfectly, you blend in with such grace that it seems you all belong together, as one piece! And the hammock... just perfection! Where, in Portugal, is that tree house? Is it in the north?

Have only now begun to watch your videos (this is the first)... and I must say, this video has been thoroughly enjoyable. Btw, you do know (well, you probably do now it's Oct 2022), that the 'back of the throat' and 'up the nose' swabbing was a complete waste of time and a total con?! Swabbing inside your cheeks would have done the same job... which is something the dumb medics admitted to, after no-one needed to swab anymore! Take care guys. |I am doing catch up and watching your last years vlogs. Lovely vlog. I notice this was first flight for Crusoe. He was holding his ear, did he suffer ear infection due to the flight? He is such a good baby. I noticed he was not comfy. Just a concern.
Hey Mint Leaf, thanks for your concern and great that you're diving back through our older vlogs. Nope, Crusoe was absolutely fine on that flight, it might have been his teeth coming through making him grab his ears. He is an absolute champ on a plane!
@@TheNewbysTwo things - have you thought of listing your vlogs numerically. I could not find your vlog on thermal bath in Hungary. Second do make a vlog on health system in Portugal as opposed to NHS in UK. How does it work and if doctors or majority speak English or bilingual. Do you speak any portuguese. I learnt some during my work assignment in Mozambique.
Instead of buying the kit, can we go to those open labs and get tested there? (Which is free)
Hi RotcivV, good question. If you are travelling abroad you must do a private PCR test (£60-130) The free ones are NHS and if you present an NHS test it’s unlikely you will be allowed to travel. Sorry :(

Best bet is to google online, cheap PCR tests. We used Randox who sell both fit to fly and day 2 tests in the same pack £120 each. You can also find out more info at GOV.uk website about Covid. Good luck!! Where are you heading?
