  • In August 1971, when Pink Floyd were simply the best progressive/psychedelic rock band in the world (8 years before The Wall), they toured Australia. They played a single Friday night gig in Melbourne, then another single (open-air) gig in Sydney on the Sunday afternoon. There was no light show, nothing visual at all. Just them. I saw the Friday night show in Melbourne, then dropped everything and hitchhiked the 600 miles to Sydney next day to see them play again on the Sunday. They were that good.

  • Damn, I didn't even know the Pulse solo was cut lol. I don't know why though, as I'm pretty sure the extra minute of the guitar solo wasn't enough to be warranted to be cut. Maybe pacing? I don't know, I do like that part they cut. I'm glad that it exists, as an extra minute of that guitar solo just makes it even better than it already is.

    @cancercentral9997@cancercentral99972 жыл бұрын
    • It's generally thought it got cut because as much as Gilmour is a god when it comes to the guitar, if you listen carefully he does seem to drop a note or two at 8:00 minutes. Me personally I think this version is still awesome and in 4k is simply stunning!

    • @@secondchance6603 This was 1994 when VHS ruled the world. I was thinking maybe it was some editing done so the entire concert would fit on a single VHS tape. I do love this version though. You can see so much better the dazzling effect the giant "disco ball" has. If the experts say Gilmour drops a note at 8:00, I'll take your word for it, but you couldn't prove it by me. To me, every single note he plays is just ever so slightly this side of Heaven.

    • This is a very good question. One thing I've heard is that it was edited for VHS tape length consideration. Remember this was 1994, and VHS ruled the world. Another is that David Gilmour wanted it edited. There were some parts in the portion that was cut he wasn't happy with. Personally, and I imagine you feel the same way, I think every note he plays is just slightly this side of heaven, whether he's happy with it or not.

    • @@clansome True. It sounds like the new blu ray version leaves Gilmour's original edit in place, so that's good news. He has every right to be the director of his own work. 🙂 When pushing the limit of how long we can enjoy a guitar solo, all it takes is one extra minute of less-than-perfct sounds for us to start to find it tedious. So keeping that perfection and the right time length is essential. Wanting more is far better than wanting it to wrap up already 😅 Anyway, the people there in person could care less about these nuances, but we have slightly higher expectations when watching a recording over and over. Good choice by Gilmour to insist on perfection. That's a legendary video

  • This concert was in 1994 at Earls Court, London. (too much burnable income at that time) The album, Dark Side Of The Moon came out in March 1973. I was 15 and rode my bike to the record store to get it. It had a couple posters and stickers in it too. I went to my buddy Jack's place and we played it on his dad's stereo in his den and cranked it up. we kicked back on the roof watching the clouds as we listened. Great album and fantastic songs. David Gilmore's solo is probably the best ever played. Simpler times with probably the best music ever made. There's a story behind the "disco" ball too. When it opens it reveals a diamond said to signify Sid Barret, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd who fried his brain on too much LSD. This song is about Roger Water, I think, being sick as a child.

My mate frenchie had bought it down south and said you've just got to hear this. With a coldie in hand and the surf in the bg ... I was never quite the same again after that as the Moody Blues had been my high point before that musical experience. Had to wait for comfortably numb to come along on the Wall Album when I was fully remote on Cape York ... casette tapes helped keep us from going troppo ... what a time to live through eh!

  • 1995 on #mymusicalroadto50 Pink Floyd - Pulse I remember walking into HMV in the Bentalls Centre in Kingston and facing a big bank of these CD’s with flashing red lights on the spine. I picked up one of them as a purchase that day. After managing to see one of the Earls Court shows the year before, this was a nice record (pardon the pun there) of that experience. The album showcased most of what I had heard that night. “One of These Days” was omitted but appeared on the vinyl edition a short while later which I dived into my pocket for also. The show I attended only played selections of “The Dark Side Of The Moon”. One of the other concerts from that Earls Court run ended up being broadcast on TV (which I think this footage is from). I managed to video record this, and the entire evening of programmes dedicated to the Floyd on a Dolby stereo recorder I was hiring from Radio Rentals at the time. That broadcast had the whole of that album. It also didn’t have a whole section of the crowd collapse onto the floor, such was the case with one of the earlier shows in that run at the same venue. The album itself is far far superior to “The Delicate Sound Of Thunder” for the previous tour. I don’t mean the package itself (even though this one is physically more satisfying) but also the performances. I played this CD edition a lot. It also used to travel around with me in the car. Because of that, it didn’t get looked after as well as a few. I suppose out of all the tracks on this, the most played would have been this track. “Run Like Hell” was obviously more impressive visually and the explosion at the end was way way louder than you could imagine if you were there. I mean that bang was LOUD! “Comfortably Numb” though was, and still is, my favourite. It’s also travelled with me from that point ever since. I have needed this song in my life, especially in moments of crisis. And each time it has helped me break through to the light at the other end. To be around when I had the opportunity to experience Pink Floyd in some shape or form, and to have this music in my lifetime, I am very fortunate indeed.
