I’m a 70 year old grandmother with a 2003 Honda Accord, I just bought with 250,000 miles. Lots of clear coat missing. But I loved watching your video and might even take on the challenge! It can’t get much worse than it is now. Thanks for the great info.
Bro, you're flipping crazy doing all that spraying w/o any breathing protection apparatus.
Finally showing the actual process instead of skipping/editing it. Because when we try at home, and we get what doesn't look to be the shiny clear mirror finish, we get discouraged. Good to see what it looks like "mid-way" to see what we have to do to get the end. Honestly, turned out A LOT better than I thought it would. This should be OK for most people who don't care for show-quality, just want the unsightly clear coat peel gone...
I'm a 73 year old vet. You have inspired me son. I'm gonna try this on my old dodge ram
I watched this like 10 times and let me tell you my fender flares look SICK now! I will say you make it look a lot easier than it is and it takes a ton of elbow grease to properly sand but if your instructions are followed you will get good results! Thank you Hektor.
Great video. A modification I would make is getting the paint code and going to a paint store where they can factory match and put in an aerosol can. The results would be about as perfect as one could expect. The one variable is this existing paint is OLD and pearls are very hard to match. Also def be aware that 2K has isotopes that will KILL you. Wear a appropriately rated respirator whenever you spray 2k paints/clears. Stuff is no joke!
This is the best demonstration I have seen on how to reasonably get rid of failing top coat.
I saw my uncle using a spray can to paint his car when I was younger and I thought he was crazy. The next day I was amazed at what he could do with a can of paint. Looks great thanks! Going to do this soon to my Tahoe. Needs a lot of work.
Nice work, and I like your honest assessment of the repair at the end. You can tell there is a difference in the old and new paint, but it looks very good overall. My only criticism is - don't spray 2K products without a cartridge respirator and goggles, at a minimum! That stuff has toxic solvents that can mess your nervous system up.
Don’t do a mist coat just to finish the can on the last coat, that’s why you got orange peel. That’s the best 2k rattle can out there. If you spray it rite, you can get no orange peel. Glad to see someone actually doing the correct steps (Sand, prime, base, & clear coat).
That’s legit inspiring. It looks so satisfying and a fun way to spend a weekend. Thank you for this video and showing us a REAL affordable way to have our old things be nice again.
Absolutely the best realistic DIY video of getting a goos finsih with readily available equipment and clear start to finish. This video genuinely helped me do my own DIY paint repair with great results.
Great video Homie! I have a restoration shop and this is good advice for people on a budget that do not want to pay for expensive repairs, but still want it right. You might already know this but 3M has a hook & loop wet 3000 Pad that saves a lot of wet sanding time. After I started using them I would not go any other way!
Finally! Someone gives a good presentation on how to fix clear coat with spray can! I watched so many bad videos on this topic before landing on this. After a few steps of trial and error and before I watched this, I did something similar. The results were equally impressive. The two steps I added were to use a polishing compound after the cutting compound and to wax as a final step. The polishing compound will give it an even better mirror like finish. And of course the wax will help protect the new paint job! Thank you for posting this Hektor!
Homie Hektor I must say you got it going on brother, I like your style!

I'm impressed! Just bought an '09 Camry with pretty heavy clear coat damage from the sun. Really appreciate you sharing your expertise!
