  • Just a quick comment for those who have not yet gone through the school of hard knocks. THIS IS NOT A QUICK AND SKILLESS JOB. You really have to follow every step in order to get good results, otherwise you get crap. Do not try to dry sand your clear coat off either --it will leave deep scratches. If you don't like the way it turned out, don't panic! Use 2000 grit sandpaper to wet sand, after you have let your clearcoat dry at least a day. Than use some compound with a buffer to really shine it up nice. You can save your paint job this way.

Of all colors only black is universal! But fade? I'm not in anyway in auto body. But I've seen many cheap paint jobs. This is just another gimmick! If you want to try. Try on a model car. Well done to you on sharing your skills on this as getting a cars paint professionally restored is almost beyond most of us financially now. • @@ghostzzz3988 I painted it last summer and it didn't look as good as Mad4Motor's 😂 lol but it did give our 20 year old vehicle a facelift. I fixed an area on the hood. It was really hard to get a good angle and probably would have come out better if I could have painted the entire hood. Its slightly noticeable, but I just wash and wax it regularly and its not unsightly. I'd suggest anyone trying this to buy good quality spray paint and take the extra time to protect surfaces you don't want painted, even practice first. I had some overspray of clear coat and it's still a little rough there. But all in all, until I can have it done professionally I'm not mad at it.

    • Basecoat always looks like that when its wet. As long as it looks right when its dry your ok. If you see orange peel or even worse fish eyes or crow feet then you have to start over because you have contamination under the clear and will have to sand it out and then try again. Also make sure to use wax and grease remover before spraying anything to help avoid those problems in the first place.

  • If you are on a budget, then this is a good way to do it. If you don't have any time constraints you can even get a paintshop perfect result by letting the base coat dry a few days and then lightly smooth sand it with really high grit and later do the same to the clear coat with an extra step of polishing the clear coat. You can get a mirror finish with some extra time and elbow grease.

    @Eener1000@Eener1000 Жыл бұрын

      @classicbikerx3588@classicbikerx3588 Жыл бұрын
    • I was going to ask about that. I assumed you would need to wet sand the base coat and the first clear coat with longer time between each, so thanks for clarifying. I’m assuming also that most orange peel would be removed with a wet sand. Any issues spraying 2K clear over acrylic base coat?

      @JB-qw2jk@JB-qw2jk Жыл бұрын
    • @@JB-qw2jk I have only ever used 2K clear on 2K paint or plain old enamel rattle can paint. I know many ppl use water based paints and then 2K clear them. It is popular with custom motorcycle helmets
