Join me as I set off on another epic tank build. This time the incredible 1/6 scale Hetzer Jagdpanzer 38 tank by Armortek.
In this video - I will begin the build, by assembling and installing the idler housing and building up the detail on the rear hull plate.
Hope you enjoy.

The newest journey begins. 👍👊💯
Great start to your new build. You must have a very accommodating wife. I have to sell my 5” model steam engine ( 4-4-0 Pride of Pembroke) before her, who has to be obeyed, will allow me an Armortek model! Ha Ha……..Cheers.
Hopefully, you'll end up with your own working WWII military vehicle museum Tony...in miniature of course lol. Keep all your builds to 1/6 scale only, to maintain continuity. I won't be purchasing any Armortek models myself, but I enjoy your builds. So keep em coming!
I think my wife would arrange an intervention should I even think about that😂. I love this scale as you can really see the details and they are such an accurate reflection of the full size tanks. Thank you for your continued support.
Hi, Tony, I didn't catch the unboxing video (I'll go back and check it out), but so happy to be jumping in here so I can follow all the way through, you did put voice to a thought I was having, namely, how incredibly accurate these machines are and the amount of research that MUST have gone into them, of necessity, to recreate them even in this very large scale, true engineering, as always, I look forward to my Fridays and watching your progress, and the working out of unexpected hurdles, hope you enjoyed your visit over here and looking forward to next Friday, Jeff
Thank you Jeff. I love the detail Armortek painstakingly go into on these kits. It is what makes this hobby so special for me. We did enjoy our trip very much thank you. I make a real howler of a mistake in next weeks video but soon realised and rectified it. I decided to show this as I feel it is important to share the mistakes as well as the successes.
@@tonys_workshop looking forward to it
Great progress, Tony. Very educational too, as I knew nothing about the Hetzer Jagdpanzer 38 before this build but seeing you building the Armortek kit has encouraged me to find out more about it. I appreciate you taking the time to show us your "warts 'n' all" approach to the build, but you're making way too few mistakes compared to my efforts. Having fitted many bearings in the past, my preferred approach is to gently press them into place using the jaws of a vice with suitable spacers to press only on the outer rim of the bearing as it enters the housing recess. Of course I'd use a proper press if I had one but too difficult to justify. Hope to see your Pershing in action soon. 👍
Thanks Keith. I knew about it but only really started looking in detail recently and its why I decided to opt for this kit. It is has fascinating history. wait until you see the next video, I make a real howler in that one😂. No harm done, but I think it is important to show mistakes as we are all human. First real opportunity I have, I will definitely run both the M26 and the Tiger and film them facing off against each other. Just need one of my sons to assist.
Yes,I cringed a little at that, press the outer ring ONLY when pushing into a recess and the inner ring ONLY onto a shaft
They are more robust than they look. I don't like to whollop it but needs to get into place before the glue sets.
Quality parts as always ,been enjoying your build videos be a shame if you retire after three tanks young man . This is going to be an awesome model ,one day maybe will get one.
Thanks Steve, I do hope you get one of these kits, but be warned, they are very addictive😀. Three tanks in and still not lost the bug...watch this space🤣
Just finished watching this one. Honestly, I wasn’t bored a second! Can’t wait to see more of your build! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you, much appreciated and warm greetings from the UK.
Can't believe you're on your third tank already, it only feels like a few weeks ago you started the Tiger.
I know...I cant help myself😂
Hi Tony. I agree with what Jeff said! Everyone has their own way of assembling it, but the joy of completing it is amazing. The finished product shows the greatness of Armortek's design and it's great! I hope that more people will join the same group after watching this video of Tony.
Thank you so much. I love these kits from Armortek, as the engineering is top class. The joy in handling the parts and seeing this kit of parts assembled through a slow but methodical progress is what is so special about this hobby. Thank you for your support and kind words.
These were based on the t38T chassis. A channel called mega projects did an excellent review of the T38 which was one of the few tanks to be in use for the entire war.
Thank you. Yes, the chassis was based on the Czechoslovakian Panzer 38(t).
A long time ago, I built my first armor model in 1/35 scale, and it was a version of this tank. I can't remember which one. This is bringing back some fond memories of the beginning of what has literally become a lifelong love of modeling. I'm looking forward to the next installment. I hope you and yours are well. Cheers!
Good to hear from you Michael. I think I am addicted to this hobby now😀. Early days but I really like this model and learning new things as I slowly progress through the build. Hope all is well.
Once again Tony, it’s going to be a cracker! I really love your attention to detail and passion for this hobby. You rightly point out that omitting any stage on video makes this a worthless endeavour (unless it’s one of the repetitive stages) and your videos should really become part of Armortek’s advisory list, so good are they. Keep up the brilliant series 👍🏼
Thanks Peter, that is an amazing comment and really appreciated. I make a real howler in the next part of this build, but realised quickly and got over it. I do think it is important to show 'warts an all' so that other builders can avoid the same mistakes.
"......and your videos should really become part of Armortek’s advisory list......" Are you listening _Armortek?_ These build videos could also be a "How To Build It" series, prerequisite with the model and Tony could get...you know...a small backhander!
Awesome!
Thank you
You could start building them on commission. Gets you funds to expand your motor pool
I would absolutely love that. Any takers out there😀?
Seen a running Hetzer. Yes, the only legit running Tiger is 131 (used in Fury) at the Bovington Museum!
The Germans loved the Hetzer, it could get out of trouble just as fast as it could get _into_ trouble!! It was highly maneuverable, agile and had more than decent firepower along with adequate protection with all that sloped armour.
I have seen the 131 at Bovington, but would love to be there on a Tiger Weekend when they put it through its paces.
@@tonys_workshop Right? I'd love to see that museum!
Tony, I doubt a gun sight of the rear armour plate of a tank with no revolving turret would make any sense! IMHO it could be a support bracket for the exhaust muffler added later.
That makes more sense, but I'm sure that the bag was labeled gun sight. I checked my reference book but couldn't see anything like this. I'm sure it will become obvious soon enough. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Tony bud you are proper hard core, straight into another build without a break Interesting to see how much thinner the Armour is compared to the bigger tanks And looks much more straightforward to build Does it come with the remote control machine gun and shield that goes on top? Look forward to the next one
Hi Gary, yes, "I am Tony and I have a tank building addiction" Thinner on the sides but they angled it to help deflect incoming rounds. This is a fascinating kit and really looking forward to building the leaf springs suspension. Armortek have done an incredible job and replicating the real thing. It does not come with the MG34, but it does have the shield. I have however purchased the Armorpax shield as it is more detailed and I will add a Dragon made MG34 when finished. Not sure at this early stage whether it's possible to have this remotely operated but really hope so. Hope all is well mate.
A nice slow and steady start - I wouldn't mind seeing you do everything normal speed, you have a 'Bob Ross' effect on me as I become transfixed by the parts taking shape, its almost a form of therapeutic relaxation... speed gets you nowhere!
Thanks Martin. I speed these parts up, because I feel that sometimes watching the repetitive parts of the build would send people off to sleep😂. "Bob Ross effect" that is hilarious as I never even heard of him, until i watched a film on the flight back from LA a few weeks back where Owen Wilson plays a fictional character called Carl Nargle in 'Paint' apparently, he based his character on Bob Ross...It's a good watch if you have not seen it already.(well is passed some time on the plane.) Thanks for your amazing support of what I am trying to do.
@tonys_workshop I'll give that a look... I think Bob's recently re-screened shows we're on BBC4, if you fancy checking him out 😀
Hi tony great to see the start of a new build ,knew i should have brought this one .what about winter white colour this time as per the Russian front.
Aren’t they like £4000
Thanks Steve. That is a great suggestion. I have that colour scheme in my reference book....I will ponder on this and let you know soon.
Yes with the VAT (If in the UK) £4,080 then the option packs, batteries and radio gear. The larger tanks come in at over £5,300 plus all the extras.
@@tonys_workshop Are you sponsored?
Hi, no just love this hobby.
Maybe you can do a t-34 next if i it existst
Armortek doesn't have that one at the moment. The 34/85 would be an awesome build to watch.
@@outdoors7076Thats a shame, one of the best allied tanks of WWII. It made the Germans sit up and think, when their Panzer III 50mm shells merely bounced off all that sloped armour!
It certainly would make Tony's tank collection well rounded.
I agree, it would have been a great tank to build.
Do they do centurians
HI Mark, that was a great tank. They used to, but sadly no longer. Armortek make limited numbers so when they are gone they are gone. They do sometimes re-run models but I have not seen anything about this coming back.
Can you hear anything....
