  • So in this video we learn that the FNAF lore is basically just an overcomplication of the real history of Chuck E Cheese. Originally a robotics engineer was amazed by animatronic shows, started an own pizzeria with them and was ripped off with a superior brand, then had to merge with that to survive. Now just like in the FNAF lore, the key to the franchise‘s survival is turning the old kid‘s pizzeria into a horror attraction. All of this is happening exactly like in the lore, in 2023.

      @izsokok@izsokok4 ай бұрын
    • I mean that's the theory matt made while heavily using Chuck E Cheese's real life history to help the fnaf lore fit into a cohesive timeline. He even says in the lore video he made that a lot of that is based on Chuck E Cheese's history and speculation of the fnaf lore. I know at least one of the books portrayed Henry and William as business partners from the very beginning but there are too many books now and they don't fit with the game lore so doesn't really matter.

He worked with all sorts of technology so we always stayed after the place closed while he talked to the staff about the robots, lights, and sound system. • I think the main mistake a lot of "family friendly" companies are making is that they put way too much focus on being unoffensive to the parents. Theyre so careful not to give the parents any reason to *not* bring their kids to their restaurants, that they completely neglect to give the *kids* any reason to *want* to go in the first place. Would a FNAF event at Chuck E Cheese upset some parents? Sure. But kids would be *begging* to go check it out, and that would drum up so much more business than theyd potentially lose

    • I agree, there are times when I feel like we never truly got out of the moral panics of the 20th century that claimed things like Dungeons and Dragons and Pokemon were "evil". It really doesn't help that most of these companies, especially in the United States, are ran by the older generation (what we call "boomers"), who is largely stuck in a pre-internet world as to what is and isn't socially acceptable, and only care about upholding the status quo as to avoid controversy and lawsuits.

    • There's a Chuck E. Cheese about 30 or 40 minutes away from me that I always played in as a kid, but it was when they still had tokens to play those games. Now, they switched to cards which I do not trust one bit in comparison to tokens. In my mind, tokens have more value as it's usually one token or two tokens to play per game along with the opportunity to find random tokens on the ground to play more games for "free" and you can save leftover tokens for the next visit. Not to mention the paper tickets which you could also save. With those cards, the credits per game makes me feel like I'm not playing as many games as I could while the "tickets" is also a no go. If I lose the card then I lose both my chance of playing games and getting prizes. Not to mention, you can't find a random card on the ground that gives you the chance to play more games for "free".

    • Without a doubt. Kids being involved with the newest indie horror because it's cheap and accessible in the new digital era is the norm, and they should adapt with it. My 5th grade students all went to see the most recent adaptation of IT when it came out. My little brother is 10 and is *obsessed* with mascot horror - has been since he was 4. Businesses have to be willing to embrace that, just like they had to embrace my generation becoming fascinated with anime and other like mediums, and that sort of adaptation is sink or swim for the most part.

If they used new technology not only for their food but for their Animatronics they really could have Disney Imagineer level animatronics that aren’t scary to kids.

    • I don't think any amount of rebranding is going to save them. MatPat's take is honestly what people have been asking for forever. In terms of relation between generations, Gen Alpha and Gen Z have the most overall interests in common that we've seen between generations in a while. Horror is one of the most popular subjects even amongst young children in today's day and age, to the point where horror games such as Poppy Playtime and Baldi's Basics are literally being turned into slop shoveled in to low quality childrens advertisements. I think a rebrand, not even necessarily an official collaboration between fnaf, in the FNaF style would help sky rocket their sales. Better yet, maybe just turn it into a weekly thing. Maybe every Saturday night, after hours, a special horror themed day could be a thing.

    • It’s also that they never really did much with the opportunities they’ve been given Here’s what I mean by that: When CEC merged with Showbiz and got their animatronics, it was a big deal. The Showbiz animatronics were leagues more capable in movement compared to the cyberamic ones that they originally had. When concept unification finished, CEC had THEIR characters on WAY better robots, capable of so much more, but after only a bout a year or so, they just went back to using the animatronics in stiff ways, instead of the full-of-life ones they inherited. This is the problem; they never fully take advantage of their opportunities, it’s not that the robots are bad, they’re just not doing anything with them when they very well could

  • As someone who works at a Main Event as a technician, I can attest to the fact that maintanence and repair of attractions takes a lot of money, especially depending on what broke. If it's a lane, generally the parts are gonna be expensive due to the wear and tear they need to endure and how big they are, and with how pricey bowling is, they get paid for on that alone as bowling next to dining and scheduled events are the big money makers. Games on the other hand have to pay for themselves due to their high initial cost, and make their revenue based on who plays them throughout the day via game cards or tokens. If a part on a game breaks down, the cost of the part comes from how much it makes, so if a coin pusher breaks a motor, and the motor is $130 and the game makes $1000 a week, than it's an easy buy. If a shooter game has its gun break down and the gun is $900 but the game makes $500 a week, it's a lot harder to justify keeping the game, especially if its an old one. Another example would be if te game promotes a gimmick that contributes nothing to gameplay and is purely fun/cosmetic, if thst breaks down and te revenue the game brings in isn't enough to justify fixing the gimmick but the game works regardless, than it can be left operable just without that flashing light, more so if the gimmick continuously breaks. I imagine with big animatronic characters this kind of logistics is applied even more so, as they are an attraction but don't necessarily bring in their own revenue, they're just for show like a tv and rely on what the resturant earns to keep their upkeep in check.

    • Mainly got my start with the Transformers franchise, would always take the figures apart and put'em back together, also helps with figuring out how engineering and physics worked. From there did the same with my GameBoy and Nintendo DS and kept going till I made my first PC in 2017, that really helped with understanding what's required to make a computer run (more so in making GTA 5 run at the time lol) and eventually got into the field in 2020 after leaving the movie theaters as a general employee to a different entertainment place who had the same attractions as ME pretty much, just worse management. From there eventually went to ME and they've been great ever since. Training is a tad steep for begineers but it's a great field to get into as it can lead into the trade of car maintanence and such, and having spent 3 going on 4 years of doing this it is absolutely my dream job, I can tell you that. It's tough and challenging at times due to the issues that can arise with diagnosing an attraction and certainly dangerous on the bowling machines, so safety is absolutely the most important thing to remember and push for, but it is also fun and rewarding to understand how it all works and can be a great step into a life-long career. Hope this to-long of a comment answers some of that lol.

I wonder if Aaron Fecter (who created the Showbiz Pizza's The Rock-a-fire Explosion animatronics of the early days) would be interested in creating such products. But we must make certain that he gets the credit that he deserves (got the shaft for the creation of the Whack-a-mole). He's in Florida but had to let go of the old building recently. He has his own KZhead channel.

It gave them the excuse they’ve been wanting for years and brought more attention to the brand, however, I think they need some long term solutions or they’re going to have to ride out the wave and wait until our generation (heavily focused on nostalgia) comes back with our own kids.

    • I have an unofficial theory about this (including the “special sauces” at places like Hibachi Grills). I’m 90% positive all of them are mayo based, use some kind of vinegar to break down the thickness of the mayo (anything from Asia probably used rice vinegar which, to me, taste a tiny bit sweet because wrapping a sushi role in regular vinegared rice sounds awful), paprika for the various shades of orange to red, and probably completely emulsified onions or something similar to give it a different kind of a bite. Did you watch the Burger theory an episode or two back? Where Sanchi (I completely butchered his name I’m so sorry >.< ) told MatPat that there _isn’t_ Thousand Islands dressing in BK’s burgers? Same thing: I think it’s probably some mayo derivative with other stuff added in but it’s all the _same_ stuff just in different amounts. So it tastes similar but is just slightly varied enough that A) no one can sue, and B) it complements the food it happens to be on. (Also I’m operating from ancient memories of any special sauce that has paprika in it because I discovered the very hard way I’m allergic to that family of plants >.

  • Removing animatronics from Chuck E Cheese is literally removing the reason they are open in the first place.

  • Being 26, I will always remember my birthday at my first Chuck E Cheese (I was in the single digits then); it had the singing animatronics on the stage(two actually), a disco dance floor(with a camera setup on the dance floor that broadcasted children on the dance floor all around the restaurant periodically), and sky tubes that stretched over the entire restaurant 😂😅 And Mat, we did in fact love those Dance floors😂 I was actually heartbroken when we moved to Georgia and the those here couldn’t even come close to the one in Orlando

  • I'd LOVE to see Chuck E. Cheese take on a horror adaptation. This might sound silly but, growing up, I was terrified of that place, the animatronics, and the ppl in the suits- VERY similar to FNAF- and that's what attracted me to FNAF in the first place. Since Scott doesn't want to open restaurant or amusement park, C.E.C has a HUGE advantage because they already have that + the history of creepy animatronics! I would go just for the nostalgic fear and unease I felt as a kid.

    • Well, there's always this fangame called "Five Night's Chuck E. Cheese's" which is like Fnaf, but with Chuck E. Cheese characters of course.

  • As someone who works at Chuck e cheese. We very rarely get any questions about FNAF. My store has had the band gone for at least 2 years. And a person gets In the chucke suit and is able to interact with the kids which is why they are moving from a band playing. To an interactive thing for the kids.

  • I think more mature themed restaurants are a ting that would be awesome! One thing I think would be cool would be a DnD style fantasy tavern, with a wanted board full of strange characters, character actors, maybe a few puppets, and coming I'm character is encouraged. Just things like this built to feel like a real place from an imaginary location would be awesome!

    • I actually remember that Disney tried to make a Star Wars experience styled as an intergalactic cruise with roleplay moments. It's biggest fault was that it was mistaken as a hotel that was Star Wars themed rather than the full on Star Wars experience that it was.

      @dcbandit@dcbandit4 ай бұрын
    • Now that would be cool. I had a dream one night of an idea of an interactive theater where anyone could come in and improv/choose your adventure becoming a temporary actor, or opt to be part of the audience. All with the level of special effects that Disney or universal had. You would have the main actors that keep the story going and a conclusion. You as the audience and the actors. A dream for theater kids probably.

  • Just as a quick note about the Mickey cartoon ride, I do find the idea of actual cartoons being timed to simpler physical things happening (and even your own interaction maybe, I don't know, I haven't been on it) to be a much more fun and immersive idea than any kind of animatronics

  • i honestly can't blame chuck e cheese or scott for not wanting to make a "real freddy fazbear's", because as insanely cool as it would be and how much money it would bring in, it takes just one person wanting to "recreate" the games for a real life tragedy to happen

  • This is really interesting because I think a lot of this is area specific. Our local Chuck E Cheese brings in both kids and adults. And a lot of people think they have some of the best pizza in the area. We also are one of the few ones left that has the full band on stage. There's another Chuck E Cheese less than 2 hours away that only has Chuck on stage.
