our ol’ pal Ness, from the FNAF movie, brought up an interesting question: is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? You see, loyal Theorist, breakfast companies have been LYING to you for decades and it has caused all of us to eat wrong for years. So how did that happen? And is “Big Cereal” really to blame for all of it?

  • It's nice to see the difference in cultures all over the world. I remember always getting confused in American movies when people would say breakfast is the most important meal of the day - in Brazil it was always lunch. True food, as we call: rice, bean, meat etc. I also got actually scared to learn people in the US have just half an hour of lunch in a work-day, we have at least one hour (some lucky people get even two!) Now our breakfast (here called 'café da manhã'/coffee of the morning) is mostly composed of coffee, bread if you're hungry and... just it, probably. Personality, I just drink some chocolate milk because I got kids' taste and that's it. And I actually laughed seeing the part about dinner, because for us it's literally what breakfast used to be. Just a snack, or the food we didn't eat in lunchtime. Or we repeat the food we ate for lunch, which I know now isn't really healthy.

    • It's the same for Poland (and possibly most of the slavic countries)! The midday meal has always been considered to be the most important one, so finding out that it's different for the English-speaking countries felt really strange. In fact, the very name for this meal in Polish, "obiad", (supposedly) comes from the Polish verb for overeating/eating until you're full - "objadać się". It's not just the most important meal of the day, it's _the biggest_ one. Think of dinner, but instead of it taking place in the evening, it's during anywhere between 12PM to 4PM. I wouldn't even call it lunch at this point, the difference between the meals is so vast that I'm not even sure how to translate it to English.

      @ShuichiSaihara05@ShuichiSaihara055 ай бұрын
    • @@ShuichiSaihara05 That's so nice! I like the way that the name of your midday meal literally says it all. And I get that thing of not being able to translate this meal to English, when I was learning English, I'd be so confused by the word "lunch". Because here, "lanche" means a sandwich, or a hamburger - basically something that we would never have for our midday meal, but Americans might - the popular translation of "lanche" is snack here, even though I don't quite agree with it. I know it's not the same thing you described, just a fun story. God bless you, bro!

As MattPat pointed out he would get his staff to make him these sandwiches because he didn’t want to get the cards all gunked up from stuff like roast meats and condiments. Also didn’t mean he had to have plates and cutlery around to eat those items and generally had bread on hand anyway so he had them slice it and stack the stuff in between.

  • Not sure if there's any problems with this scientifically, but since your circadian rhythm is based off sleep patterns, you might be able to shift that ideal time to eat around by waking up and going to bed earlier/later. I personally wake up at 8:30 and eat most of my food at 6, but because I wake up and go to bed so much later than most people, that falls almost exactly in the middle of my waking hours, and in theory also within the ideal time to eat.

He was also a secondary source for lore (fanon lore while Scott himself informed the BTS “real” canon), so he had some power in the writing room. He probably didn’t have this video in mind, but he probably thought it up in that drafting room when it was suggested. So basically they went about generating a hypothetical theory that this alt universe MatPat would come up with, then MatPat actually adopted said theory in reality to make this video. • 7:30 I don't think that's really correct. It's not well documented but the Eucharistic fast can be traced to the 3rd century (writing from Tertullian) but no food or drink even water from midnight until after Mass was norm. Then Pope Pius X started to relax the fast to encourage receiving communion more frequently. In 1953 Pope Pius XII allowed water and in1957 reduced the fast to 3 hours before Mass. In 1964 Pope Paul VI further reduced the fast to 1 hour before receiving communion, still to be upheld today by ALL Catholics according to Cannon Law. Also practiced by Eastern Orthodox churches. So it's more a penance in preparation for receiving the Eucharist than discouraging gluttony. Also in essence breaking your fast with the first food of the day being the "Bread of Life" and a discipline out of reverence for the True Presence.

Breakfast is what gives you the energy to actually do something in the morning after waking up, which is a lot in the military, with dinner being the least important, since you move the least in the evening/night, and lunch just being a way to just not tire in the other half of the day.

Like unless im am ACTUALLY physiologically hungry I dont eat something early. Often what can be more important is making sure your meals are at about the same time each day.

  • I think it *depends* greatly on your lifestyle. A farmer/homesteader in pre-industrial times would find the breakfast -- which is *not* taken on rising, but after the first two hours of work -- is indeed very important.

  • 16:04 because I'm weird, I actually stumbled upon the exact opposite for my body during the pandemic. it seemed to like eating breakfast and dinner skipping lunch, or making a very small portion of my overall calories. I'm not sure on this but it actually might be the amount of food at each sitting that did it. Both meals were pretty high calories (around 800-1200). on the other end of the spectrum we have a former coworker of mine who ate a small meal (like 100-200 calories) every hour to hour and a half and he maintained a health weight. so that might come down to body type.

  • i'm moroccan but living in the netherlands and the first few years of my father being here, after lunch (around 2-4 pm) he used to go to sleep until it was time for the next prayer which confused me. It confused me even more when i went to multiple vacations in morocco to visit my family and they all did the same thing. At some point i was the only person awake in the house and my cousin's family down the hill was asleep too so i'd be extremely bored for two+ hours. Glad this explained the history behind it because i still didn't understand why everyone just decided to doze off
