  • Whenever Malignaggi use to punch properly, with his body behind it and land with his knuckles his opponents usually seemed to feel it. But he was always so afraid of hurting his hands he would hardly ever throw a proper punch in his fights; he'd rather arm punch or slap. Even his jabs used to be more like flicks. I believe he was overly cautious about his hands. There are a lot of fighters whose hands are prone to breakage, that doesn't stop them from punching with authority.

But many people MYSELF INCLUDED thought broner just never felt threatened and took scoring a easy ko over malinaggi for granted resulting in this performance. Obviously Broner was the predator, and Paulie was the prey, but Paulie punched Broner MANY more times than Broner punched Paulie. The wide scorecard is silly. I watched closely, and I think even IF if your going out of your way to hate on Paulie there were at least 4 rounds you simply CANT take away from him.

    • I agree but also evasiveness can win rounds. Willie pep once won a round without throwing a single punch. One effective punch may cancel out 5 or 6 light punches but I wouldn't say much more then that. I give paulie a lot of credit because light punchers don't usually become a champion.

    • I just begin watching paulie due to his pod cast. So I'm watching this fight for the first time. Paulie has little offence but he is great at evasiveness. I agree with you upon watching but there is one thing no one seems to notice. Paulie rolls with the punches. So everybody is thinking Broner is punching effectively but he's not. Ali use to roll with the punches, tyson fury does also. That is why there nearly impossible to knock out. I notice in some of the other comments that Broner is punching more effectively but he's not by much. The fight is hard to score tho. I'm trying to make a case for paulie. I'll probably have to rewatch it a few times.

Instead of going up to the talent rich 140 lb division, he skipped up to 147 for a free belt against a past prime Malignaggi. The flaws were there, but they could've been easier to fix if he kept taking the careful route while still young.
