Same as Doctors and Presidents; you call them the title although they're retired. Floyd fought Canelo BEFORE he was a belt holder, but Canelo went on to win many titles and is therefore now called "champ" out of respect. So fans count Canelo as a "champion" that Floyd defeated although technically he wasn't yet. Now have a beer and relax, you're stressing over nothing.

He showcased his extra ordinary fighting skills which even the boxers themselves aired out during the interview every after each fight. Then what else do you want???? He deserves to be respected. Re-watch his fights, you'll definitely know who he was. Love you Floyd.
