After the immensely positive response from the first watch box video I just had to make another, my plan for this mini-series is to make the box reflect the piece that is inside of it. I just love the loom of my Christopher Ward Moonglow and wanted to replicate the stunning stars but give it a planetary twist.
The main body of the watch box is made from Rippled Ash, with a connecting piece of London Plane.
The three planets on the lid of the box, from largest to smallest are made from, Ziricote, Spalted Box, and Pau Rosa. Each of these woods brings a unique tone and each is rare and special in its own right.
The woods have all been sanded to 10000 grit and finished with Danish Oil, and sanding sealer (on some)
Let me know what you think, this took over 4 months of hard work, planning, turning, and perfecting this new box. Please go and support Christopher Ward as they have supported me, I truly recommend their wonderful watches!

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

  • That came out amazing. I love how you copied the face of the watch and added it to your piece.

  • Harry, Love the piece. I also follow Mike Hilton and he recently did a piece out of black locust which he demonstrated that black locust glows under UV light. That would be cool as your moon on you piece. Thanks for sharing.

  • How strange that such a nice watch was initially wrapped in the most naff looking piece of clear film - I think their packaging department needs a rethink!

  • I wish you would narrate a bit whilst working so we’d know what you were doing and what products you were using. It may be obvious to you but not to the rest of us.
