Rumor is that there are still people on the waiting list for this watch....
Dude, such a good one, truly underrated comment.
Hahaha as a watch enthusiast who owns several watches over the value of £10k but no Rolex for reasons of principle, I appreciate this comment! 🤣
I was one of the volunteers at th Idaho Botanical gardens for this segment. When I went to get the guest he just had the watch in his front pants pocket, no special case. He had a wonderful story about his family in Idaho.
so awesome lol just in the front pocket thinking it's $300 😂
Its people like you that make the world a better place. Thank you.
I wonder if he threw it back in his pants pocket after he told him its value.
Not bad for something that someone said wasn't worth repairing. I dread to think how many classic watches got thrown away because they weren't classic yet
It's one of the reason these watches are worth so much.
@@darex0827 very true. Of the 1000 made I bet a lot ended up in landfill
A LOT - there was a time when people were taking gold Piagets and the like and just melting them for the scrap.
And the jeweler probably offered 100$ as a parts watch.. LOL
Ya right. They were “thrown out” at the watch store after the crooks said it wasn’t repairable. Then miraculously come back from the trash 30 years later.
I think that “jewelry store” was trying to on this man out of that watch. Glad he didn’t fall for it.
This 8171 "Padellone" in steel is incredible. The camera cuts away when he mentions the million estimate if the dial was original 😅. Still, that is a still an under estimation of value. A steel case in this condition, what appears to be unpolished with the crown still crisp on the caseback by itself is extremely valuable. I wonder if he has the original bracelet that was never worn? Many of these cases were polished and worn away, someone with anmoriginal dial but poor case would pay big money for the case. This is a top dog, grail watch for Rolex collectors.
BS
You know that hurt when he heard about the dial!
Owner went from happy to sad with that last $1million quote.
Thank You!
Amazing
I never knew Rolex made a moonphase back in the day.
Based on the Valjoux 7750 movement, still used today.
Yeah, they used to make interesting watches.
Yikes, down from a million to 35k just because the dial has been repainted. That hurts.
And shows how f*cked up the market is.
@@matthiaskettner6686No it doesn’t . People want 100% original or they will pay less or just buy a brand new watch. Makes complete sense.
Yep. Original condition is everything. Never, never polish or refinish.
@@matthiaskettner6686No, it shows how lack of awareness can cost tens of thousands of dollars. You can’t blame the original owner for not knowing. However, that is why pieces in original unpolished condition are so valuable. There are very few around.
@@rfern263 polish is completely okay. But changing is not so good.
I know that bracelet is not original and doesn't really even fit...but. There is something about how it separates from the case at the lugs. That space is rather wonderful.
I really like the appraisers jacket 😊
I own a butter triple calendar because of this watch it is just such a unique style
Well you have to remember back in the '50s you could buy one for a couple of hundred. Paul Newman's watch that went to auction a couple of years ago was bought by his wife for under $300 around 1960, which was like $3000 back then.
Three thoughts popped in my head after watching this. 1) Was the guy that said it wasn't worth repairing hoping the owner would say. "What would you give me for it?" 2) Did that owner have someone pretty up the dial thinking that would make the valuation better when he took it to Roadshow the following month? (Maybe that's why they did not show the owner's reaction when he told him about the value with an original, unaltered dial.) 3) If #2 is true, did this owner go find a tall building to throw himself off of after hearing this or did he just go home a grab a weapon on his way to the person that agreed to redo the dial?
My heart stopped at _‘I took it in to a repair shop’_ . . . 😬
Man, did they ever f up getting that dial refinished lol
They didn't show his face when he mentioned that with an unmolested face it might be worth a million. The reactions are part of the attraction to the show.
It's unfortunate this video cuts off when it does. Because we miss the part after the appraiser tells the owner the watch would be worth 1 million dollars if he hadn't replaced the dial. 😊
I like Peter no BS just the facts 👍🏴
Nice and crisp, like the way I like my notes.
Good for you, sir, whether you sell it or keep I in honor of your grandfather.
Any watch repair shop that says the watcj isn't worth repairing is a shop i wont be back to. If someone is bringing in a watch for repair, its special enough to them to have it repaired
I guess some watch makers are scammers and hope to buy the watch they just butchered in price.
Goes to show you do not let the watch repairman trash a Rolex, especially an old one!
Did they pick him up Off the ground?
a Roadshow without David Walker is like a Rolex that doesn't keep time
Is it Aegler movement or Valjoux 7751. ? I do realize Rolex used multiple movement houses until just now.
. The Valjoux & Zenith is all i can think of, Aegler in the end only produced movements for Rolex untill the early 2000 when Rolex bought it off Aegler,
@@kevinparker461 Thx,...If I buy a relatively cheap annual calendar, I would love the 7751 movement. Some microbrands are using it extensively. Or get an old Speedmaster. 233X serial range. I need the waterproofing. JLC, IWC are spectacular but a bit expesnive and not 100M waterproof.
I mean, new Daytonas in steel are going for $40k. This price isn't surprising at all.
Is it my imagination - or is Mr. Planes now 30 years younger ?
Way to ruin his day at the end! LOL
$45,000? Wow, you can buy over 2,000 of those sport coats for that.
I feel like he should have just not told the guy what replacing the dial did to the value.
Yeah but it’s good to know and he won’t wonder what if.
Hi i recently ran across an old painting inside of old house i just bought by Robert Wood. How do I go by getting an appraisal?
Best I can do is $50. --Rick Harrison
@@ornotgortwormiii8731bien dit. C'est une famille de voleurs .
We'll have to have it reframed and cleaned, it will sit in our shop for years and it will be hard to sell - Rick Harrison@@ornotgortwormiii8731
Heritage auction dallas will do a free appraisal.
@@ornotgortwormiii8731Look, I’m going to have to get it re-framed and it will take me a year to find a buyer. I’ll give you $65.00 and that’s my final offer.
casually drops the fatality heartbreaker at the end XD can't believe the jewelry store thought it wasn't worth saving. ANY rolex that old is worth a nice chunk. in low numbers like that? triple value.
and after he appraised that watch, he asked the owner to step into the room backstage and apply for an insurance policy for that newly appraised $35,000. dollar investment he has....that is how those antique roadshows work.
Hahahaha that guy needs a new watchmaker 😂….”not worth the time”
It's worth $45k but not worth fixing.
Too bad he redid the face! How do people not remember/know that original is best!
He could have really left off that last bit about a million dollars that was harsh and unnecessary given the circumstances
The person genuinely didn't know. No reason why you don't inform him.
This dude lost a lot of weight.
The real story here is the appraiser got hair plugs and took ozempic.
Why won't Rolex ever release this model again?
It used an out of house eta movement. Rolex never wanted to make their own version of the movement, so it was discontinued, because Rolex only uses in house movements now.
@@TheBugkillah It is the most in demand complication (moonphase) commanding the highest price ever, and they have no interest to continue production? Is Rolex certifiably insane?
@@gmshadowtraders Not to sure on that, highest demand at Rolex are stainless steel sports watches, moonphase is usually more of a dress watch complication.
@@ZesPak You do know Rolex only had 1 stainless steel model in this years Watches and Wonders right? One new GMT Master II. That's it. Wow. The poor guys are trying desperately to move up market. They are completely insane. This was the perfect opportunity to push the moonphase. What a complete joke of a brand! But they will sell millions to the sheeple I agree.
Peter lost weight and grew more hair
If no one wanted it and Rolex said it’s a failure why is it worth anything.
For that exact reason, if it was a failure then there aren’t likely to be many around and the few that are will command a high price
Because things change over time.
Why mention to him how much it could be worth? Just so he feels bad?
its so sad that people just sell off their deceased parents possessions after they pass away when they intended for the items to be cherished for future generations and they worked so hard to acquire them. what a sick and pathetic world we live in.
The episode with the Rolex Daytona worth 700,000 watch was a fake they never let the public know that no credibility
The watch itself was not fake the rest of the set (box/papers) may have been pieced together.
This appraiser has no credibility the $700,000 Rolex Daytona episode. The watches are fake.
Why are you posting the same comment over again? Saying it twice won’t make your statement any more true. The watch was legit.
