Twin brother is consulting a lawyer right now...
Thank you best laugh I had all day!!!😂
*hitman
Twin brother is becoming a doctor. Gotta get the highest level of education
I love that they truly enjoyed the watch as it is and as a gift from their father.
Vintage watches are great to see on this show.
Yes! Love seeing the wear on them
1978=vintage 🤣🤣🤣
@@frznrrfan.frznrrfan102 "vintage" is actually anything over 25 years old , I believe.
@@68BocaYou’re correct.
Zenith 4030 caliber movement, it's a piece of art and the sentimental value alone it's a keeper for generations.
No, that movement only was fitted from 1988-2000. This one probably has a Valjoux movement.
Appraiser: "$95,000 to $105,000" Rick from Pawn Stars: "Best I can do is 20 bucks"
But he takes all the risks.
Let me call an expert
Yup. Rick's an uneducated, low-class clown.
I'm going to need to have it framed and it will sit around for at least a year.. 😉
Not true
You can tell the owner isnt a massive watch enthusiast. But even so, his thoughts on the color combo and reactions as a whole show what it means to him. Thats a legendary timepiece right there. Congrats to you.
Well, no more subway rides with the Daytona….
They'll cut his wrist off for 100 thousand
No kidding, he won't be causally wearing that piece anymore.
Love this story! And so happy for him and his brother. His dad is probably smiling with this!
'Thank you dad!' Great words.
Awww, I love this kind of emotional attachment.
I love all of the PBS videos because they don't have commercials
Wow the old Daytonas look so much better than new ones!
Love this one - what a gorgeous family
I love when you hear that they wear the item that theyr've brought in or they brought something in because they love it in the first place... And an item of remembrance makes it so much sweeter.
I bought the same one on 2014 for 30k, now it’s 120k. The vintage Rolex world has gone absolutely nuts in the last 10 years
Always bittersweet that the valuation takes away sometimes as much as it gives.
The best part of this video is how he feels about having worn this piece on the subways. Although I love that there can still be a person or two, who isn't crazy rich or particularly knowledgeable about watches, but just casually wears a 6263 on the subway. Something about that is really cool to me.
Unfortunately, the world we live in today, makes it too dangerous to wear a watch like this. My best friend took a severe beating in the parking lot of a bar one night by two robbers trying to take his gold Rolex (apparently they had seen it inside). He managed to hang on to it, but never wore it anywhere again after that. Later, his home was broken into and it was stolen anyway.
Another amazing Rolex to add to the AR lineage. Amazing
What is beautiful is not just the watch, it is the emotional family history and legacy. It meant so much to his father and he and his brother honor their father by having it mean so much to them.
What a great dad, with amazing taste!
This is so cool. And yes, he needs to stay off the subway with this watch!! Best wishes to him and his brother. They sound like a very nice connected family.
What an amazing watch with an amazing story to go along with it.
The pushers, not the buttons, were made screwed down for better water resistance.
“ A nice piece of watch”.
What a nice happy story.
Love this guy.
It's astonishing how much certain watches can be valued at 😲😲😲
It's so impractical for the average person to have $100,000 tied up in a wristwatch.
so awesome
Just an amazing rolex with red Daytona! Sweet jeefus
I love that the father said whoever gets the most education!
"nice piece of watch"....wow.....how articulate
“Thank you dad” 🙏🏼
Gracias Papi!!
Great show i remember watching with my grandpa.... Idk why pluto has the uk version only 🤷😔
The PBS app has a ton of shows for free.
Pitbull lookin pretty good
What we didn’t find out, was… does he have the box, papers and any cards or accessories that came with it when purchased? That would easily add thousands of dollars to its value. Great piece!
He does and a piece of Paul Newman’s hair is inside the movement. Watch is worth trillions!
Don’t wear it on the subway!!! Lol
An episode of AR just watches or pens would be great.
Hold it. Value is going to the moon 🚀
Steve Buscemi dubbed the expert's comments.
He can pay off that masters degree lol
Are you sure this guy is not one of Telly Savalas's love children?
Tachometer? You mean it has a rev counter?
$5 shirt , $10 glasses, $100,000 watch
👍
He looks like he’d own a Daytona
Yeah, an '89 Daytona.
he for sure sold this watch after the show lol
Desiigner needs one of these
One of the most sought after watches!!! PAUL NEWMANS WATCH SOLD FOR 15.5 MILLION!!!!!!!!!!!
nice i hope he truly dint sell it becouse the value of this watch will only go up.
Who loves ya, Baby?
🍭
Gold Jerry gold
LOL
Dear collector. Never wear a watch with such value even at special occasion. And never give the watch to Rolex for service.
Proper Roly
1:28 It’s a tachymeter not a tachometer. “Tack-ihmeter” not “tack-ohmeter”.
I really hope he doesn't try to go clean it all up or get it refurbished. Just go put it back in its box. Lol
🐼
'I brought a raw-lexxx'.
Sands point is a very wealthy area.
Wonder if he still shares it with his brother.
Really..
The vietnam guy had one that was appraised at 400.000
That was a Paul Newman dial
Wonder what the 1978 retail price was...
I guess around $2-3000
more like $500-600 in 1978
@@C00ltronix adjusted for inflation in 2022 money, about that price
Fruity
Telly put that Kojak money to good use. The son doesn’t suck on lollipop though.
I actually thought he was going to say more
Panda dials are black dials with white sub-dials... Like, you know, a Panda. This would be referred to as a reverse-Panda.
This watch is as good as having money in S&P500 if not better!
I met a watch dealer who brought a vintage Rolex Dayton about 8-9 years ago for £12,000.... it's now worth over £300,000. So yes, in that case it's performed exceptionally well.
You can pick one up for $70,000 from a private seller. A dealer will only give you about $60,000 on trade. Now a black dial big red you will do a little better, but the market has softened this past year. My father has four 6263 Big reds, three black and one silver, one is a complete set. Back in 1991 these were $2000-2500 😂
Man it’s just crazy. But as we move towards not having any mechanical timepieces in the next few generations, the ones left will be even more valuable.
I’ve just purchased a two tone sky dweller, and have a 41mm date just. They’re not going anywhere
I bought my big red 6265 in 2014 for $30k, sold it for $40k, it’s now $100k+.
1:13 What does the "reference number" actually mean? I notice it's the same number here as on the watch of this lucky guy: kzhead.info/sun/lZ2SZMalmZpnfpE/bejne.html
I just seen a video with the same watch 700k
A master’s degree can pay off
😳
Casmagraph 😂
Those poor depressed buttons
Would you look at it!
Thuper, thanks for athking.
DO NOT sell it!!! Keep it!!! And keep it safe!!!
It's useless... he could do far better things with $100,000 than show off and know what time it is.
I hope he invested in a safe after that appraisal?
I could be wrong, but I think that the valuation was a little low. It's slightly different from the "Paul Newman" 6263 Daytona that sold for over $15 million in 2017, but even with that, Reference 6263 Daytonas like this often routinely sell for many hundreds of thousands of dollars. In any case, it's a beautiful watch, made even more valuable by the story behind it....
There’s a 77 model on Chrono 24 asking $100,000 today.
Awkward silence 🤐
Yeah, you won’t be sharing it with your brother after this show!
Rawlex
It'll be at auction.....soon......
That shirt is a celebration of weird.
It's a celebration of bleach.
Weird isn't good, so you should not celebrate it. Weird is bad.
100 billion dollars
I really hope he doesn't sell it. Luxury watches are to be passed through generations. I buy luxury watches to mark special occasions in my life so they all have sentimental value for me. I bought a watch this year to mark the birth of my son. It'll be given to him regardless of its value (could be worthless by then or could be worth a fortune) on his 18th birthday. I'd like to hope he keeps its and passes it on to his future children, however, if he chose to sell it for a house deposit or car or something like that in the future it would be his decision.
On the other hand, it's extremely impractical for the average person to have $100,000 tied up in a wristwatch. Even more so, because it's more difficult to wear it, compared to a $300 watch. As the guy said, he could have easily been mugged on the subway and lost $100k. So this nice watch is useless, and prevents you from doing $100,000 worth of other things that could be very useful.
So, let me get this right….this guy has a Masters degree, presumably has access to the internet and yet has zero clue about what his Dad’s watch might be worth? Really……
Even the most clueless people know that Rolex watches are very expensive
This is the same watch like the bandana vet who cleans up land mines?
Nearly the same, a latter Daytona.
Do we know why this one is valued so much less? Just a less rare edition?
@@colmegan He worn the watch daily, so definitely the tear & scratches are there. Whilst the land mines vet is BNOB, stock watch.
@@colmeganthe Vietnam guy has a Paul Newman dial, mechanically it’s identical to this one
A masters degree in B,S.
Its Row-lex mate not rol -ex
It's broken, needs a sevice. The chrono hand is stuck at 35 sec
That’s right James, I wonder why they didn’t address that issue? Thought for sure the appraiser would tell him to have it repaired at an authorized Rolex dealer/repair shop.
@@jwwj30 Here's the thing. When Rolex takes in a watch for service, they keep the damaged parts and destroy them because they don't want counterfeit parts floating around. Don't forget that collectors also value original condition more than restored - doesn't matter if the watch doesn't work, as long as all the parts are original it will explode in price. Collectors want EVERYTHING original as much as possible.
@@AJR-zg2py OK, thanks for the explanation as I didn’t understand why he wouldn’t fix the second hand.
Maybe it’s been manually stopped & just needs the bottom chrono to be pushed for it to fly back to the 12 position….!??
Chrono button maybe wasn't pushed
So much lower than the Viet Nam vet's similar but unworn version.
But why is a watch from 1978 more desirable than same type of watch today. Some different colors.., but pretty much the same mechanics… well the collectors pays what they can
You could go out and buy a new one today - could you buy a classic older one today?
He'll get a nasty shock when coughs up for paying its overdue service from Rolex
I'd never take a vintage watch like this to Rolex for a service... you could lose a lot of the value if they start replacing parts on it. You need to take it to a specialist independent watch repairs that knows what they are doing with vintage Rolex.
Other brother just signed up with a degree mill to get his Phd.
Now he'll find out if his brother is honourable or a scumbag because he won it by getting a Master's, fair and square...
“Sir I asked you about a watch, I never said go on for 2 minutes bragging about your education level”
Two things of note. One, it's called the Panda after the Panda bear. As apposed to what exactly? Two, Rolex of this vintage came with a synthetic "crystal". So no better than my similar aged Seiko flightmaster. The rare blue and white dial. Which is not worth a tenth of this, and no it's not for sale. Not even for 10k.
Comparing a flight master to a daytona is kinda silly though.
@@jonathanforrest631 Yes, you're correct. A comparison between two similar objects specifically designed to perform the same function, how silly is that. Shut the front door on your way out Johnny boy!
Seiko 😂😂😂
@@michaelhughes3302the flighmaster and the daytona are not specifically designed to perform the same function. You aren't a watch person clearly.
I bet when he gets home he is not going to tell the wife how much it is worth.
It paid for him to get his masters degree
This guy frequently makes incorrect assertions. It’s not a Panda, it is a Big Red.
