I absolutely love this appraiser, Kevin Zavian..he's my favorite on Antiques Roadshow.
His father used to do appraisals on the show, too.

That's because he loves the work and doesn't just look at dollar signs.
It felt like he was calling a play by play at a baseball game and not simply appraising a ring. Hanging his every word, on the edge of your seat in the bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, score tied, 2 outs, 2 strikes, 3 balls and the pitcher lines up his throw...
That's kind of what I thought too. In all honesty it seems like it should be closer to that amount then only 15 to $20,000. That seems ridiculously low for 18 carats of diamonds

The lady must have been very fond of this woman to leave her such a special gift! It speaks very well of her that she was so highly regarded.

I like the Bracelet more myself, each to their own I guess.
Personally, I thought they were both on the ugly side, but they're far better than some of the stuff ARS has been showing lately, like that ugly bat necklace, etc.

I hope she wears these with real pleasure, remembering how she and her husband had lovely dinners with a fine lady for yrs. Yes they are expensive, but they were made to be worn and enjoyed. For nice dinners , theatre nights, special holidays. Yes, in the event of some family disaster they can be sold. That's how fine jewelry gets released back into the wild. But until then, do ax the widow would want; wear them in happiness.

yes i think gifts like that are so beautiful because they can be worn and enjoyed for many generations, but also sold for necessity if that time ever comes. maybe this woman's child or grandchild will come into hard times someday and will truly need the money that this would bring at auction, the value of which may increase even more someday. i think it's a gorgeous gift to pass down whether it's worn or sold.
I think that the older woman wanted those two pieces to go to someone who admired them and would wear them. To go to dinner once a month for years and years, that’s a special relationship. The new owner should wear them and cherish the memory of her friend.

I was amazed at how close the diamonds were in the ring. They look like each diamond used the other diamond as the proms. I think it's called. The puece that would normally hold the diamond in place. Awesome thou.

This lady deserves it, she seems very kind.
Kevin Zavian is a really nice guy. I met him in Omaha, while working the show, the second time AR came to Nebraska. We talked for a minute about the weather (ha), and a bit more about cars. I had a 1963.5 Ford Galaxie 500, and he started talking about some late 1950's Chrysler he had. He really made my day, for taking a few minutes to chat.
That ring is absolutely beautiful. What an awesome gift.

The updated appraisal of $15K-20K is still low. A total of 18 carats of fine white diamonds set in heavy platinum?? More like 30K-50K.
I was thinking the same thing. That bracelet is worth much much more than this appraisal, even if we don't know who made it.
May not be, it depends on the clarity of the diamonds. If they were top grade it would be worth millions. Obviously they are not, they have inclusions. Flawless diamonds are expensive, don't be fooled by the carat or size.
I agree and was thinking same I would have thought the bracelet would be worth. Around 50k but clarity is everything in diamonds . D flawless and vvsi or flawless. Would be millions
