The worst thing you can do as regards intrinsic value of a collectable watch is deep clean and polish the exterior. The internals are another matter altogether as the watch needs to be working and accurate to be of any use.

  • Restoring a vintage item, especially furniture and jewelry like this watch bring down the value quite a bit. Guitars are another item that is more valuable in it's original state, even if played over the years, than if it was restored to look like new. On one episode of ARS, a woman had this 18th century dresser that had numerous drawers and was tall. She thought it looked shabby because of the fading of the finish and she hated the hardware so she had it professionally refinished and replaced all the knobs ( tossed out the original ones). She inherited it from a relative. In its current condition it was worth $30k, only because of the rarity of the piece and it was a Chippindale. If she had left it in its original condition and didn't do a thing to it other than dust it off it would have been worth $300k. It was only one of about 5 known in existence.

My point is there is no reason to buy a watch that costs this much as all a watch does is tell time. You are buying the brand , which in this case, Rolex, is boring just like Omega ...If you want to buy an expensive watch at least buy a Brietling Navitimer 01 at least it's cool to look at......and I'll leave that G Shock to my grandkids cause ya know what ......I bet It will still be working ...unlike that Rolex ....That along with my properties ....plural.....I'm sure he will be real happy just like that kid in Grand Torino 🤣👍have a fantastic day!

Earlier this year, I gave him a Patek Philippe and an IWC pilots Chrono while still wearing the watch that he gave me. Im just happy to return the favor with interest. :-)

  • I don’t know anything about it... but I thought that the fact that it said Tiffany on the dial was something special and if it got serviced it wouldn’t have that anymore. That’s a lie... this guy 100% knew what he had and that Tiffany on the dial was important. You don’t wear something everyday for 40+ years without knowing about it.

    @matthewscott3689@matthewscott36893 жыл бұрын
    • He did not know much about the actual watch knowing that Tiffany on the dial might be important does not still tell him anything about the watch.

      @bighands69@bighands693 жыл бұрын
    • @@bighands69 He knew enough about It to know being double stamped is uncommon at least. He knew enough about it to know that the value lies in its uniqueness and originality. He knew that if he sent it in Rolex replaces all worn parts including the dial. I repeat, you don’t wear something with you everyday for decades without knowing what it is or doing some research. Even on basic repair information he would have learned enough about it to have a general idea of its value. A person who knows nothing about a watch like that would jump at the chance of getting it repaired and serviced. He knew more than he was letting on, either that or he’s incredibly dense.
