That seems to be how most Gorillaz songs go, and it certainly is the same for their newer stuff as well, which after a few listens I quite enjoy. It's probably been so long that you've forgotten your first listens of their older stuff where you didn't really get them yet, and you probably don't consistently listen to the songs on those albums you don't care for.

    • I feel this is 2-D speaking directly to the fandom. The fans help cheer him up, but he's reminding them that he's just a cartoon; don't be sad for him, and don't take whatever happens in the lore so seriously. I'll probably be crucified for saying that, at least on Twitter, but it's the only other interpretation that makes sense to me beyond the Amazon robot one that Damon talked about.

I doubt when you say 'the old ones are better' that you're referring to The Fall, Sweepstakes, White Light, or most of the songs off their self-titled album. The good ones get remembered; the fine ones get forgotten. That's how all music works.

    • @@SanguineMalcontent I mean yeah they're alright, but there's only one song on that album most people remember. Does that make the rest bad? No not in the least, it just makes them as good as the stuff they usually do. They're really good, just not as fantastically memorable as Clint Eastwood or Feel Good Inc. are. People act like Gorillaz is going under quality wise, when their song quality is just as good as it's always been, which to me I think is still above average.

So up until halfway through the track I expected a number of moments to mark this increase, but then I gave up trying to predict its appearance. Then the double time came out of nowhere and gave me a very pleasant surprise! This song means so much to me, as they somehow managed to capture what it feels like to think about all the love and support my closest friends and family have given me while helping me through depression. The beginning of the song feels like when I'm in a depressive pit, but the end feels like when I look back on all the great memories I have with those people, and the gratitude I have for them. This song instantly became special to me, and I will always think about the love I hold for my supporters, especially my brother, as he's always been my best and closest friend, and I'm so happy that we share the memory of going to see Gorillaz for the first time
