  • Meddy's mental game is so impressive. Wins can teach a player a lot, but what separates GREAT players from good players is the way the greats learn from their losses. Anyone remember Meddy's 2022 loss **at the Aussie Open** to Rafa? That Final was a literal inverse of this match--Meddy was up 2 sets with break points in the 3rd. And lost the match. It was devastating, & he couldn't seem to recover from it. His 2022 season was sub-par: he went from #1 ranking going into that 2022 AO to falling out of the top 10 by the time he hit his next AO the following year (Jan 2023). Meddy literally had to rebuild his whole game & confidence after that--& he did it. He became less reactive on court (to hecklers booing, bad calls etc), & instead focussed on his game, game plan & shot decisions. He didn't give up on matches before they were over. He seemed to almost eliminate unforced errors, lol, & garnered the nickname 'The Wall'. He mastered winning from the baseline, which included learning how to handle Carlos' drop shot game. He also spoke about how his growing family helped him gain the proper perspective on his tennis goals. Meddy spent 2023 putting it all together, & by the end of the season he'd won 66 matches--more than any other player on tour. He's now producing the best tennis of his career--after a loss in 2022 that burned his confidence & game to the ground. I'm a Carlos fan--he's my favourite player, tho Meddy's a close second--but Carlos doesn't have this mental game yet. He's demonstrated this via his response to some of his key losses. This kind of hardened mental toughness & self-discipline may come for Carlos, but he's going to have to make an important decision in the next year: What's more important to you, Carlos, the applause of an amazed crowd or the win. Congrats, Meddy. Long may you run.💖

    • Me too, but cant count Medvedev out of this at all. All the pressure will be on Sinner now. And it is not impossible to win a GS even after 3 consecutive 5 setters in previous matches- referring back to Stefan Edberg, US Open 1992.

  • To be honest, Zverev had to win this in 3 or 4, he did not have enough in the tank for a 5 setter after his effort against Alco The 4th set was a real kicker, a routine volley missed, Medi wins next point with a mishit and then produces an ace ! Out of nowhere it was now 2-2 ! Crazy but gotta feel for Zverev , he played the better tennis.

    • He's done it often, exactly like to Chung in the 2018 AO, leading 2-1 after three sets and basically giving up in the final two sets and laying a goose egg in the final set 6-0.

    • Yeah, after 4 hours and losing both tiebreakers he was physically and mentally gassed. Still an AO semifinal is a good result especially after his injury comeback, he'll be back.
