When Nick Kyrgios faced Daniil Medvedev for the first time! Craziest match-up ever?
After we explored the Gael Monfils vs Dustin Brown, and Nick Kyrigos vs. Dustin Brown, I had to find a match that lives up to the expectations!

  • I would say what won him the match is not necessarily his trick shots but his serve. It's crazy how he pulled such powerful, acurate serves so consistently.

    • 100%. Kyrgios gets away with this because he knows he is gonna pull through on his powerful serve. Kyrgios is skilled player but I think it was a bit disrespectful towards Medvedev . Medvedev however remained professional throughout (minus the racket abuse )

    • well if you stand 20 ft behind the baseline, it opens up a lot of angle, even if you're 6'6. On the other hand it definitely gives you more time to react, and also ball slows down a bit, the further it travels...I saw Medvedev play Rublev at the US Open, he was standing against the wall to return, weird

      @charlestran7000@charlestran7000Ай бұрын
    • @@charlestran7000 not blaming him, but standing that far makes you cover way more ground. it's probably related to him being so tall and a bit slower than great returners who hit the ball early & inside the court. I think he's prioritizing the fact that it gives him more time to make a longer swing and hit deep when he can hit the ball, vs blocking the ball and redirecting the speed of the serve and using the better angles enabled by hitting inside the court, like naturally gifted returners do

      @geemy9675@geemy9675Ай бұрын
    • @@geemy9675 Dude Meddy is a great returner. Look at his stats. He is one of the best (if not the best) returner on tour right now. Like you said, it's just a choice of how he want to approach it. If he stand closer to the baseline, sure it will take away his opponent's time and cover more angle but will reduce the return quality also. It is a trade off and preference that player chose to fit their playstyle. By your logic, u think Roger is better returner than Rafa and Nole because he stand closer to the baseline?

    • It seems consistent with any form of artistry.. (and I'd count top tier athleticism as art, just like any painting or sculpture). The more gifted you are in one area (be it art, math, music, etc) the less you have left over for the "normal things" that the rest of us take for granted. They say we only use a fraction of our brain (the number seems to change depending on who you ask), and I think that's largely true.. but I don't think that means there's parts of your brain that are dormant and just waiting to be used for something. I think that if you train your brain to be an incredible tennis (or paint or sculpture or whatever) processing machine, it necessarily takes energy and resources away from other areas.. it doesn't just grow out of nowhere. My uncle can see/visualize/feel complex mathematics and physics in his head (a talent that attracted the team that built CERN and ultimately he helped them design and build it)... But I'll be damned if he can hold a regular, natural human conversation without appearing like an alien who has intensively studied human interactions, but is now trying it for real for the first time.

  • im surprised Daniil only got 2 racket smahses considering what circumstances he played: On Clay, against Kyrgios that could easily get into any player’s head and especially back then Med wasn’t really mentally strong 🤣 and this time violation in 1st set. That could have been much more happening🤬🤣
