This is the all-new Suzuki Swift Sport. This mini hot hatch may have lost some weight and gained a turbocharger since our last visit, but with a price hike thrown in is it still worth considering? Take a look at my latest review to find out.

I've got a 2018 one, done about 20k kilometres in it. It's comfortable. Quick. Nimble. Good looking. I love it.
don't forget it has led headlight, touchscreen, 140hp 970kg, adaptive cruise control, auto high beam, ldw- wsw, dual zone clima, 17 inch and sport chassis, foldable mirrors, auto wiper, 5 door....if you get a german car with all that you pay much more
look uup but I don't want all that, I want a fun chassis that feels fast for a cheap price, that was the whole point of the original swift sport.
Tom Tom yeah but lots of people who'd daily these(I.e everyone) would like to have those features so it's a pretty reasonable price But tbh if they had made them options, it would have been better
Yeshwant Dasari I get what your saying but I don't quite agree, if you want comfort and tech, there are plenty of cars that do it better for the same price. I understand what Suzuki are doing, trying to make this car an all rounder. That's not what I want so il stick with my 08 sss I suppose
Tom Tom no doubt about that But you don't get both sportiness and Tech in a lot of cars A Fiesta ST does have it But it's gonna be a lot more expensive to insure as it's more powerful and you really can't use all 200bhp on the road without ending up with a ticket
dont forget the new one will kick teh ass in speed and handling over both previous sss models
Bad thing: Small trunk space Good thing: Spacious back seat! Do I need to explain this?
What about the sedan version of swift? The DZIRE??
@@davidfajardo6348 Nobody likes the Dzire. its just a heavier Swift without a hatch
@@davidfajardo6348 If you're going to waste your money on a Dzire why not take a look at the way better looking Suzuki Baleno then?

The boot (260m3) is actually quite big for such a small car. I know because I own one.
Atleast it has 2 real exaust types not like Mercedes A class 😂
Guimazor not only A class.. every mb class has fake tips nowadays
@@411nightnheaven the tips on the swift are also "fake" (they're surrounding the real exhaust pipes). But they're both fully connected... as they're also in the MB A class!
@@djmadmax9486 we are talking about the integrated fake tips in the bumper bruh

Suzuki makes better Minis than Mini
More lighter, and more smaller, just like old mini like used to be
Nothing mini about modern Mini's
True. And cheaper. But they really could've worked on the interior a bit more.
@@Commentator541 more work = more money = not so cheap :-)
@@dirkdiggler6230 its not like Suzuki cars are not reliable.
Those exhaust tips are really well made, not fake like some other brands and the real ones are perfectly incorporated into the chrome covers.
I bought the yellow swift sport after watching a few good reviews - yours is definitely an influencial one! Suzuki is the kind of brand you have to experience to truly understand- i decided to buy it after sitting into one.
The price is nothing to complain about imo. That’s almost luxury car equipment in a car that weights 970kg. It should be an insanely good all rounder and I can’t see why people would buy a boring VW Up instead of this.
Yeah. VW is too expensive for what it offers, and the other "cheap" companies just catch up...
Cos with scrappage a VW UP! GTI 3dr in base red was less than 12.5k on the road....that's why......and I am sure Revo et al will be along with appropriate remaps etc for more power if necessary
Stupid rear door handles. If you have younger kids they can't open their own doors! Up GTi ordered instead. If door handles don't matter to you, then enjoy!
u shud have waited for the new Fiesta ST or even got a used current gen Fiesta ST tbh
Those prefer the design, build quality and Brand image of VW.
I picked up a white one on Tuesday. I absolutely love it. I think the interior plastics are completely fine when you look at how little it weighs.
@Richard Williams Received mine on October 16th and this little pocket rocket is endless fun! I'm a family father, having a wife, a daughter and a dog and even though we too have a station wagon, this "tiny" car at only 3,89 meters length still provides surprisingly much space in the front as well as in the back (easily enough for four grown ups at 1,80-1,85m) and on top of that is still capable of carrying your weekly grocery shopping in the pretty big boot. Fuel consumption can be brought easily to 50 mpg when driven normal as every other "normal" car. Even when being pushed, the cars fuel consumption never exceeds expected levels, the 1.4 Turbo definitely does NOT need more fuel than its predecessor, in no scenario!
I hate the round shaped air vent design, if that would be different I would say it's one of the best car at price range
Are you still enjoying the Swift?
It's a great looking car, hope you are enjoying it mate
In what country?
Mat the type of guy who reviews a cheap car -swift and complain about cheap plastic
It's not even coming to my country
Its nt tht cheap on tht price brother
Calvin Hobbes Like the new range rover's..
So many people from India watch Matt's reviews
Tushar Arora because it'd be of no use on your horrible roads
Thank you so much for this video! Showing us the rpm for highway cruising in the 6sp manual just answered a question I’ve been roaming the internet for months now to try and solve :D you are a legend!
“The most fun you can have on a budget” “It’s a little too expensive” Get your mind straight dude, is it too expensive or cheap?
There's no vehicle that is cheap unless if you buy a second hand and you made a good deal
It is the cheapest performance car you can buy today. There's plenty of mods available from Japan that if you do it right can push it above 200 horsepower and reduce the weight even more, so that will allow you to beat bigger cars for short stints.
@@raulferro3998 Also it's got more standard kit than most "premium" German Executive cars. I've got one I'm borrowing on my drive and it's a great little car, feels faster than my Volvo S90 and I'm borrowing it because I can fit more in the back than I can with that giant saloon car.
I know it's on auto trader for less than £14,000 that's a MEGA DEAL.
I love Suzuki Swifts, a lot.
I too !
Suzuki swift was rated the most reliable small car!
Had 2 ZA31S' so far. Will be very unlikely I'd every buy a different daily driver. All the car Ill ever need with nothing less and nothing more. Fantastic cars.
@rue de bac Very. I crashed the first one so.. my own fault for it going to car heaven haha. I beat it up for about 50k miles beforehand.
Suzuki are really reliable but I like the jimny most
I am driving the 1.2l. Amazing fuel consumption and it still feels quick in town. I love the interior.
U are good at your job reviewing vechiles makes one always want to watch the next clip keep up the good job🤗
The Dublin/Wicklow mountains look great in the footage. Always a fun (if sometimes very bouncy) drive!
I had the 2014 model and loved it!
I have a 2014 SSS na and it’s a great drive...smooth when you want to take it easy, fast and planted when you want to push it. And much prefer the 2014 styling
I've been waiting for this review of the Swift for so long I became a fan of carwow in the meantime.
Struggling a bit with some of the ill informed comments - i have had Suzuki swift sports, all from new and the latest is the most complete car by a long way. To be fair In New Zealand they are very popular as competition like Ford Fiesta ST and polo GTI are way more expensive and both have poor reputations for reliability and quality compared to Japanese cars. Having had all 3 sports the new version would blitz the old models point to point on any road along with having a much better driving experience around the city which is where they will get most use. Yes the new version may not have the rawness of previous versions, but how often do you really get to wring you hot .(ish) hatch out in the real world. Its 2018 folks and having 50 MPG, lots of safety features all bundled into a practical, but still smile inducing car is really what real now. Bring on the backlash from all those lads who think they need 200 HP to sit in the traffic Most day!
Agree with this comment ^^ however I don't think Suzuki swift sport is on the same level as a fiesta ST or Polo GTI
I agree with your comments. I've had the two latest Swift Sports. The new turbo is very fast. As a driver's car, I'm inclined to believe that the Fiesta ST is better. But the Polo GTI... No chance. The Polo GTI might be faster, but as with all VAG products, they are dull, lifeless machines to drive.
Also interesting to note the price rise in the UK from 14 to 18,000 pounds. In NZ the price of the old and new Sports is virtually the same at $28,990 for the manual
This *actually* looks better than the VW up! haha great job Suzuki 😂
Compare to Honda or Toyota in the same class range. I choose Suzuki.
Owned a 2006 Swift, the 1.5L VVT with 102 HP and 60.000 miles, tons of fun to throw around in the city, and the interior was almost brand new, they pretty much took care of it, the only drawbacks were... Tiny booth space (actually didn't use it, put a Subwoofer in it instead 😂 ) and the mpg was pretty similar to a E46 330 Ci with mixed driving (highways and city 50-50)
There's nothing like a good drive through the Wicklow mountains! Nice to see familiar spots.
I live in Australia and have the 1 ltr turbo and it's a little beast I love it
A very good car. Would like to have one
I don't have a license let alone own a car and I watch every single review on this channel anyway. Guess that means the reviews are good!
He keeps saying VW Up when that's an A class car and the Swift is a B class car, should be compared to Polo, Fiesta, Clio and so on. Yes it's more expensive than before but please compare the standard kit. Try loading up a Polo or Fiesta to the the same level of kit and they will be several thousand pounds more expensive than the Swift.
At least Fiesta has 200 hp

The swift sport has always been a thrill to drive. They really pulled this off. I test drove one and it feels like you are driving it not it driving you.

Best car presenter by miles, really enjoyed this Matt
I still have my 93 SWIFT GT. Still runs great! I would love this new version. But unfortunately for me,Suzuki no longer sells cars in the USA. And it's becoming very difficult to even get parts for the 93!
Really lovable car this. Simple, affordable, reliable fun. There aren't that many cars now which are like it, which for me makes it even more appealing.

10 times better than the up gti. The up looks like a crashed smart compared to this.
swift is a B segment car, like polo or fiesta, up is an A segment, like ford ka or suzuki ignis
not price and powerwise. Polo Gti has 200hp not comparable
He didn't say Polo GTI and hes not mentioning performance, hes mentioning what tier of segment the car falls into based on size which ultimately affects design of the body. Personally I think the SS is ugly and the UP gti is a good looking city car
@@ThePhiltastic Im suprised the gti has 200hp.. hired a std 1.0 swift other day and it was all over mk 4 gti that tried to have a go. was very impressed.
No, the Swift is about 7 times worse than the up!
Do more reviews in Ireland Matt! Was wondering why it looked so familiar 😅🇮🇪
Hello Everybody from Argentina! love the show and also Matt´s reviews! one of the best in these short car video tests. I was wondering though, @Matt: what happened with the usual music and effects? for example, when you get into the 5 annoying things? is it a rights issue?. The last videos I feel the music was too low and as I said before, different (I loved the other one :)). All the best to all car enthusiasts!
In my country Swift Sport has same price as entry level Golf, So driving pleasure, good quality, fully equipt for same price for Golf isnt expensive for me
The new Suzuki Swift Sport actually has a 0-60 of 7.5 seconds. Suzuki is understating the specs of their cars again.
Manufacturers sometimes do that - understating performance figures so eventual owners dont get shafted by insurance
The vw up gti is cheaper because: Rear drum brakes Normal seats No infotainment or tech Cheap 3 cylinder engine used in everything
Recently purchased a red one. I honestly could not be happier.
Always loved the Swift Sport. I used to own a Lupo GTI back in the early 2000s and I suspect the Swift is one of the few current cars that could match that thing WRT fun and everyday practicality. Plus the Suzuki is most certainly more affordable than the Lupo, which was quite dear. But hey... when I sold it on (which I regret today), people were cueing up to take it off me.
Not only fun , it should be super reliable as well, unlike VW group cars. Suzuki topped the 2018 what car? Magazine reliability survey !
Suzuki is Japanese. Enough said about reliability.
@@samsamsam3 exactly, every japanese car is insanely reliable.
Suzuki cars in India are unsafe tin cans tho
@@TheDennys21 Except maybe for a nissan with a cvt. Or a recent decade mitsubishit 😅
@M Ralte hyundais suck. Absolute worst cars to drive
I usually like small sports hatches, but for this, the weight, damping, and a somewhat funky interior are the main USP´s. The exterior has become less iconic with some rather large front wheel overhangs resulting in a heavy nose profile. The cruise control with lane assist is really not needed for this kind of car - A slightly lower entry price without that option would have been preferable and perhaps 10 HP more instead. Neither the UP nor this looks particularly cool - but If Matt says it is fun to drive then it is an important part of it.
Had an 09 Suzuki swift 1.3 ltr... drove it on a fucked gearbox for well over a year, best car I’ve ever had so far, never failed me even with a knackered gearbox
i would love to see more videos with old classics , like GTR , NSX , SUPRA ...would be cool
Looking at this one for my first car. I’ve fallen in love with it lol.
Love you too
I wouldn't get a sports for your first car just get the cheaper standard swift I've got one and it's mint
Mustang mufc yeah that’s what I was thinking of getting. There aren’t as many videos about the standard one though.

In 2018, James May in an interview on u tube said the swift was his favourite normal car and that Suzuki was the most underrated car brand. He went on to say that his mom was on her 4th Suzuki now! If required i can send link.
I ordered one in Pakistan from Japan and I am paying 20,000 dollars only in custom duties. Total cost to me is 45,000 usd. I just love this car.
Almost perfect little sports car.. Only thing I would probably do to it if I ever got one would be a chip to get a bit more power and a custom exhaust that produces at least some sporty sound..

It would be an instant buy from me if it ever launched here
Suzukis Swift in Australia are made in Japan not in India! Due to quality issues in the past, only Baleno is imported from I ndia to Australia, but this model is not very popular here in Australia, Swift is everywhere!
Never thought anything great about Suzuki cars until I checked this video as our roads are literally crammed by Maruti suzukis. Will definitely think positive about Suzuki cars from now.

Got one in Champion Yellow. Not a true hatch but can keep up with more powerful cars around the mountain passes here. Even beat them. I had the 32 as well. I miss the high rev nature of that one. Will buy the SSS until they don't make it any more. Last thing to add. Absolutely fun to floor it around roundabouts with traction control switched off 😉
hi brian! i just sold my 31, was about to buy the 32 but the price difference is not as big, so 33 is also an option. i'd say that the latest model is better looking, with some newer technology, turbo vs n/a. what would you choose knowing them both?
@@h0tdish Definitely the 33. I loved how high the 32 could rev. I took it to 7000rpm each day I drove it. Super reliable engine. The 33 of course got more torque. I chased my friend around Franschhoek Pass (Google it) in his 32. Downhill that 32 was super quick but when we turned around it was mostly uphill. The 32 could not keep up of course. You get a tad more bells and whistles of course.
@@brianjacobs8839thanks for the opinion! Had a chance meanwhile to drive the 32, very little, seems that the 33 is the way to go
I knew straight away this was filmed in the Wicklow and Dublin mountains :) then you where on the M50 going towards Bray 🤪☘️👍🏻
little bit more focus on front and rear lights for every car would be great. not one channel is looking in stuff like this. but for me its pretty important.
Best thing about it is the reliability.
I test drive one of these for 24 hours. They are unbelievably fun to drive. I would have bought one if it wasn't for those horribly narrow seats. As an average sized Australian, my legs sat more on the bolsters than between them, and the side bolsters dug into my back. Those seats were definitely designed for small Japanese people without giving much thought to anyone of even moderate size. I also found my size 13 foot would hit the footrest when using the clutch. I found myself having to adjust how I placed my foot on the clutch pedal. I would have also preferred a digital speed readout in between the dials instead of useless graphical readouts of boost/torque, acceleration/braking, etc. The Australian version has a speedometer which goes from 0-260 so the lines are crammed so close together its hard to easily read your speed at a glance. Finally, I get that it's a small car, but a centre console armrest would have been appreciated. You don't notice it at first but when cruising for any length of time, not being able to rest your arm anywhere gets annoying. Those gripes aside, this is an insanely fun car. I could live without the digital speedo and armrest. I hope in future models they make the seats more comfortable and I'll buy one in a heartbeat!
Your comments are detailed and very informative. I agree with you about the speedometer range.😅 Still, the Suzuki Swift is a really light and fun car!
My fav car reviewer!!!!! Love this guy
Well... My sister has the old sport, and I would say that it is way less of a pain to drive than one of my cars. My car is a tuned volvo 944 with a racing clutch that is rated to 1000nm torque and is insanely grippy and the pressure plate is insanely heavy. My car uses 10 liters of fuel every 100km if I am really light on the throttle and if the conditions are perfect, otherwise am I driving at around 12liters/100km My other car however is an original volvo 945 polar ftt, it is easy to drive, quiet and insanely comfortable. I freaking love that car
That actually looks fantastic
Swift is a class above a Vw Up, in every aspect. The Up looks like a refrigerator, especially in white. In the smallest class i will choose the Kia Picanto.
'Refrigerator' remark got me in splits for some reason 😃.
Headwork,software and exhaust👌
Just had a massive price cut £1500 off plus will be a promotion with a extra 750 dealer deposit taking price down to £15750 which seems bang on the money. Was told by my dealer they were not happy when they heard the price and they put pressure on Suzuki to do something as some dealers had ordered in quite a few demo cars. Dont quote me but hearing around £210-230 a month with same deposit

great review! how is the audio quality in terms of listening to music/spotify
Try and spec any other car with this kind of equipment and see what the price is. I wish car reviewers would stop comparing it to VW UP! Its a different class and segment to the VW. The Fiesta ST is also very different and if you want the ST with a similar spec your looking at 23k in the UK. Ive checked them all out and test drove them and I've ordered the Swift Sport.
Did you get it in the end? What's it like on day to day running?
the rear looks really nice imo. And I'm surprised that it comes with Continental Sport Contact 5 as on this car. that is an expensive and really good tyre.

All good. One question. Given it's 2019, does the Swift Sport have a (now ubiquitous) Digital Speedometer? Call me simplistic, but I do like to an unequivocal speed score rather than interpolating a clock-like dial, especially in heavy traffic like we get in & around big cities in Australia..
The equipment list has almost everything standard that's why the price is more. Soft touch plastics in hotter countries like mine don't hold up very well sometimes.
