Ford killed off the Fiesta way too early. That's one of the best cars on the road and they should have invested in an upgrade instead of blindly going all EV SUV. Just see how many of their loyal customers are now deserting them in droves. Not everyone wants an SUV or EV, and certainly less who want an EV SUV!
I wonder sometimes what goes these manufacturers heads when they make these decisions. Trying to be like Apple and tell people what they should be buying? Hahaha mistake #1. SUVs are overrated. I’d take a good hatchback or estate/stationwagon anyday.
They killed the fiesta by fitting a eco boost engine now known as the ecoboom as it go's bang and then shafted there customers with big bills for a crap engine that Ford should have paid for
@@DarrylRadcliffe Absolutely. I just don't need an SUV but just a small runabout. I'm 70+ and there is absolutely no need for such cars, especially when I am trying to do my environmental bit but buying less, smaller and cars with better efficiency. SUV simply do not fit my requirements. I worked in Ford's Product Development department for some years, so I am most disappointed by their strategic mistake. I no longer drive Ford cars because they just do not make the products that fit my needs. So sad.
@@michaelkilbride2927 That was because the gave they the design responsibility to PSA. It was PSA who developed the stupid wet belt system, which also afflicts PSA engines, just that they kept quiet about it. I would have used chain ilo belt, just like the Japanese.
The Fiesta was also the UK's best selling vehicle & stayed in the top 10 months after they cancelled it! Friggin stupid move they made
In this mad world of high car prices the new swift is good value for money. Lots of standard kit and knowing Suzuki will be very reliable. If I was looking for a new small car then the new swift would be at the top of my list
I'm a firm believer that our car tax system should be based on weight, with bonuses for cars below 1000cc, it's the only way to get car makers to design efficient cars, for people to be enticed into lighter cars , and cheaper to make cars mean cheaper for us to buy, why £40,000 has to be a normal price for a boggo family is beyond me, when the E46 M3 came out that was 40k, much better value, yes I know it was 20 years ago, but even so there was a big hike in car prices under the cover of covid
Many car manufacturers can learn a lot from this in terms of efficiency, most of today's trendy electric SUV'S are 3 times this cars weight, the gas guzzler of electric cars
No mention that they have changed the entry handles to the back doors and not built into the rear door pillar ? Easier for little one’s to get into the car.
I'm on my 3rd Swift now, that's going on 20yrs of owning one, one of the most underrated cars going for cheap reliable cars to run.. Never ever had a problem or breakdown with the swift ..ya can keep your bmw, audi and the rest.
I'll bet Suzuki were pleased when the barrel was put in the boot. Not the sort of thing you would put in a brand new car unless you wanted to damage the interior and scuff the rear bumper.
dimensions are kept similar to the last generation cause it's going to launch in India later this year and the Indian tax bracket is set in size and power of car , which is under 4 meters and 1200 cc (1.2 L )
I used to drive a Swift a number of years ago. Really loved that car! It was just a little too small if you wanted to transport things like large pet carriers or mineral water cases. But it's a wonderful car if you don't need to transport that much.
Me with my Suzuki swift 2007 model smiling watching this video! ❤
Was waiting for this. Looks nice, cheap, and reliable.
Looks nice ? I’m sorry, this generation is a disgrace to the swift name
@@aaronyeoh5203 Kind of agree. I like the older swift more. This looks weird
@@aaronyeoh5203 Yeah, they screwed up the front.
When you put it into reverse do the mirror point downwards for parking?
Im still using 2008 base model swift, it my parents car and I started driving since last year
Our lass has a 70 plate Swift, 1.2 hybrid, cost a pound under 10k (pre owned at a stealership). Been ultimately reliable, sips fuel through a straw & on the twisty country roads around us, a hoot to drive IF you use the box and change up and down regularly. I have been known to take the Swift over my M240i X drive for some shorter journeys and it always makes me smile. 😊
lt/100?
@@xeniosaiasmpg
woud you pick old wift or i20 2023 ? and why thanks
@Bambotb ,i 20 is loaded with features and bit more space, swift is fun to drive, especially in A and B roads ,not too much feature list but covers more than basic.Test drive and see what you like
@@Bambotbit's not rocket science to choose between the reliable Swift and a Korean clunker.
I really liked the swift and had several of them. I was gutted they axed the 1.0 boosterjet, what an engine that was. Would have bought another if it had still been available.
My wife owns the previous gen to this (2018) and it’s brilliant owned it from basically brand new it’s on 30k miles and has never let us down. What I would say which really let the newer versions down is that you don’t get the 1ltr 3 cylinder turbo anymore which is such a shame because it’s far more superior to the 1.2 4 cylinder N/A you got in facelifted version. I had one for a day while ours was in for a service and it just felt a bit gutless down low. Got sidetracked there, the swift shouldn’t really be compared to a fiesta it’s a car that can basically do everything that any other car can do without the fancy touches while maintaining the key elements such as fuel economy, reliability and maintenance costs. The added bonus is that it is an absolute hoot on country roads.
1:35 The red one is the best-looking Swift of all times.
I'm a big Swift fan but I really don't like the looks of this new model. They don't seem to have done an awful lot, but it has had a huge detrimental appearance to the looks (IMO). Its a shame because I really like it otherwise. Personally, I'm happy that Suzuki have kept the same dimensions. Many supermini's now are as big as cars from the next segment up which I find very odd, supermini's are supposed to be small, so don't make them bigger. If I want/need a bigger car, I'd buy one. Looking down the comments, much is made of the power output compared to the 1.0 Boosterjet. I'm a bit baffled by these and can only assume these folk have been living in a cave the last few years because the 1.0 Boosterjet was killed off in the 2020 facelift of the previous shape car. No idea why they are complaining about it now, 3/4 years later🤔. So the new model is not losing 30bhp over the previous model, its losing maybe about 1bhp! (and one cylinder). Whether or not Suzuki should have killed off the 1.0 Boosterjet is a separate issue and nothing to do with this new model. As one of (it seems) a handful of people left on the road who is comfortable, happy, and able to make rapid progress with a low powered car, I don't really have much of a problem with it. A light and nimble car with a revvy n/a engine, what's not to like?. The only place I'd appreciate the extra power (more specifically the torque) of the 1.0 Boosterjet is on motorways and dual carriageways where the extra muscle would make for more relaxed cruising. But, the Swift isn't that kind of car, its bluff windscreen and lack of sound deadening (which keeps the weight down, because sound deadening is heavy stuff!) means that cruising at or above the legal limit isn't really its forte.
The best part of the boosterjet was its robust aisin 6 speed auto. I canmot have much faitth in the jatco cvts used by suzuki.
We still have the 1.0L boosterjet here in India. It’s in the Suzuki Fronx Crossover.
@@sunilayya8948yeah, knowing jatco also supply cvts to nissan which is plagued with transmission failures really raise doubts about reliability
Jatco solved their issues long time ago (those plagued Nissan), you should get your info right.
I am driving 2019 Swift diesel manual transmission from india ,the car is superb and very good driving experience.
Having bought a 2023 SZL we are pleasantly surprised how well rounded the car is and given the reduction of competitors and the warranty on offer its a compelling argument to buy and with the improvements we will certainly give it a look if we replace ours. The dealers tend to be very good also though not as large as mainstream European manufacturers .
Another reviewer with the hard plastic obsession. It wears well, doesn’t rattle in my experience and will still be like that in 10 years time. Why are they so expensive in the UK? Are there taxes or tariffs on Japanese cars. In 2019 l bought anew Swift Sport and it was nearly £4000 cheaper than the UK price.
Bit of Proton Savvy about that bonnet line
Yes, especially the clamshell bonnet
Greetings from India!! Nice review !Suzuki nowadays focuses on India, as it easily sells 20K Swifts a month here. Its the best selling small car along with Baleno. Rated high in fuel efficiency and reliability. This Swift will be launced this year, everyone is waiting for it. The outgoing 4 Pot version is still available but rapidly getting sold..
Except the Indian version is nowhere near the level of its EU counterparts
Yes, its true in all models, not only Suzuki. Basically, the vehicle norms dictate the Car's level. Tomorrow if Govt of India makes NCAP 4 as the standard, the Indian version will have to meet it. Already we have seen this in compulsory airbags.
Definitely good value, and long term reliability is a given with Suzuki. Like the fact it is mild hybrid with a manual box option unlike the pricer full hybrid Yaris or Jazz which are auto only.
The only part that might have issue is the jatco cvt
Jatco doesn't have issues for already a long time, you should get out of your cave
This looks weird compared to the old one, idk something is off, looks like a knock off
woud you pick old wift or i20 2023 ? and why thanks
@@Bambotb to be honest I'm not entirely familiar with either when it comes to technical stuff like how reliable they are and so on but from a first glance I like the Hyundai more, looks more modern inside and out even compared to the new swift, I'd take the Hyundai, also seeing how Hyundai been doing pretty well on the market lately, I like most of their latest models like the elantra or the kona
@@Darx97 i agree with tou looks much better and more versatile
I agree. The line as it goes past the front door and around the front just looks wrong. They really should have toned down that change, if just on the front end. I think the old model looks far better. More sporty, aggressive and fun.
Suzuki is far more reliable than the Korean clunkers. Do your research on reliability and low TCO statistics, do not ask people that know nothing about the cars you are asking.
I have a mk2 swift sport and my misses has a mk3 swift sport. As he says, hard plastics, etc. But who cares they have been 100 percent reliable, are great to drive have loads of kit. Basically an honest little product. This one being based on the old one again, so what don't change a winning formula . Wonder what engine they will put in the new sport model when it comes out ?
In India every 5th car is a swift ❤
It looks quite different, but it retains the typical Swift look
Suzuki partners with Maruti in India and it has the largest market share there and thus not so dependant with sales in other countries as much.
Govt killing the vibe of driving in the name of emissions standards...
I quite like this, but it needs more power... Looking forward to the Sport
There’s been no news of one coming to the UK :( I hope it does
Need Suzuki back in Amerca. Does the swift come with auto trans? And does it have an arm rest and storage?
yes, a newly developed cvt like toyota. and yes, an armrest is optional.
Thank some villains from Consumer Reports (probably at the request of some American producers) for faking a test on Jimny, about few decades ago, that have driven Suzuki out of the US market despite the test being withdrawn later because of being falsified. Suzuki makes excellent cheap cars such as Swift, Jimny, Vitara etc.
I'm another who think that Ford is/was absolutely mad to kill off the Fiesta. I'll have to try to keep mine as long as I can now because there are no new cars on sale in the UK that really appeal to me - and certainly none that drive as well as the Fiesta did. I've tried an EV and simply do not like the way they drive compared to an internal combustion engined car.
Land rover did the same with the defender, priced their biggest buyers out(farmers) now thet all drive mitsubishi s
Epic test of storage space- I expect the wine barrel test on all future reviews.
Old is gold !!🥇🎉
try 25 yrs old! 😆
Go for Maruti 800 euro 1
Suzuki Swift is a good car everywhere
Same ‘platform’? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
You guys say the Ford Fiesta was killed off last year, but I saw a 73 reg one the other day!
Sir can you tell about Suzuki lina
Cheap car in your country is a dream car for me in my country.
What about the safety of the car? Is it improved?
Let me know when you are doing a reader's review in London! Shame it doesn't have auto dimming mirrors even as an option for a new model because LED lights are too powerful these days plus no heated seats too. Would have been nice with 6th gear too.
When it will come in india?
Please do one milage test video on this car
Pls review the new Nissan kicks and Leaf too
It’s not coming to the UK so it’s not relevant to us.
Oh that's a shame I thought it definitely would @@MrFiskerUK
@@David-kl4kn nope. Unfortunately we get the Juke & America get the Kicks.
When it's coming to India?
In india, this same swift will start from 5750£ when it is launched but without any active safety feautures
I have the current model SZ5 Mild Hybrid with 1.0L 3 cyl Boosterjet Engine which has 109bhp. Got to say very underwhelmed by the new model, it just looks lie a facelift of my car. Slightly different at the front, and the tail lamps slightly different as well. Interior is almost identical apart from the larger infotainment screen. Overall the car is not that much different. The main disappointment is the engine only delivering about 90bhp, don't get me wrong I love my Swift, but to release a new model almost identical with a lesser powered engine is a backwards step by Suzuki.
It's actually worse. The new Suzuki Swift has 80hp. I'm in the same boat. My car is a 2019 SZ5 model and switching to the new Swift will almost certainly be a downgrade due to losing around 30 hp (a little under a 30% drop in power which is significant). This is also reflected in the 0-60 times where the newer model is around 2 seconds longer. I like some of the new tech, but I think my current Suzuki has everything I need, is faster and looks a lot better.
you dont buy such car for speed
Am just trying to point out that is a downgrade from the old model. @@xeniosaias
@@xeniosaias I agree with @killianplc - why would an existing owner downgrade their current model? Great for people that don't own a swift, but terrible for existing SZ5 owners.
The current model has a few different engines, a 1.0, 1.2 and I believe a 1.4 Sport model.. Which one is the most reliable and any common issues to note with any of these?
I love Suzuki Swifts, but only 81bhp???? That isn't going to be enough. The old 3 cylinder turbo was quite nice, but even the old 1.3 4cylinder didn't have enough guts.
woud you pick old wift or i20 2023 ? and why thanks
@@BambotbNot much experience of Hyundais. I do like the Swift - very sweet to drive, not perfect - interior looks a bit plasticy compared to old models, not huge amounts of luggage space, but remarkably reliable (even those made in Hungary, whilst 3rd gen made in Japan!).
@@timbounds7190 all 3rd gen made in japan ? This is 4th gen right ? Also just on top of your head would you be more interested in i20 ? Seems like a better value only 1,5k more but not sure
@@Bambotb If this is 4th generation, then 3rd generation made in Japan, but 1st and 2nd made in Hungary. I like Swifts but the engines have become rather gutless - the 1200 was a bit weedy, and this new one looks far worse! So, on paper i20 might be a better bet. But I guess it's in the driving experience....
@@timbounds7190 i agree i20 is more logical
Not sold on the looks. Think I'd rather have a Sandero Expression Bi-Fuel for £4k less
What about the swift sport and engine specs for that ??
Most people get that he wasn't reviewing those variants.
I drive the Suzuki Swift Sport sourced from India. Absolutely love my car, but the new design doesn't do anything for me.
How did you source a sport from India? Those aren’t sold here… we only get the regular swifts.
I preferred the front of the older model
Affordable is the word bro, if you can’t use it please don’t pretend to be an automobile journalist. Muppets using cheap for a car nowadays to drive down its appeal. Suzuki shouldn’t let these kind of people review their cars at their expense. Most of these automobile journalists disrespect car makers who make affordable cars to make their more expensive but the ones advertising with them seem preferable
Journalism is a shame nowadays. Affordable cars producers are being shamed by evil people that favour the more expensive cars (but lower quality/price ratio) for some advertising money.
Whilst that's the best looking car in the class, I don't think it's as good as my very old 2011 model, which benefits from having an old style infotainment system, (i.e, no touchscreen!) as well as having the superb 92bhp K12B engine.
Careful. Some crazy might carve “Taylor” before the “Swift” branding of your car.
They should stop calling it a hybrid when its not at all it's just a glorified start stop system
This sort of setup used to just be called a micro hybrid around a decade back, but still, the term is misleading especially given you can disable such features. [EDIT - no, it's not, as it helps with acceleration as well, so "mild" hybrid seems fair]
No bad thing though because it avoids the complexity of a full hybrid set up. That's why it's cheaper than a Yaris or Jazz..
Yeah and half of the time it doesn't even work
It gives a mild torque assist during acceleration..so yeah
@@deeptweshdm2536 If that's the case, then the badge is warranted.
They use these as cute little police cars here in Japan.
Hi there, Rahul this side from India, do a tank to tank mileage test with a cation like "upcoming Swift facelift milage for India" and see how your views grow instantly...
😂😂
lagging touch screens are yet another dangerous distraction.
Somethings odd with its looks.
Its a bit puzzling why suzuki is placing more emphasis on firm handling than ride comfort in a small car like the swift. I am sure most buyers will prefer a cushier ride to go cart handling. Suzuki should seriously do more consumer research. Its probably a deal breaker for some people .
18k for a swift. Jesus i remember selling them new for 9k.
Pity about the ride, and the price is a bit steep, IMO.
That bonnet groove and facelift looks gross. I've always liked the swift but it's got progressively worse looking. Still a great car though I'm sure.
Previous generation swift design was a hit, if they redesigned its interior in this generation it would've been great, I don't like this new Swift
Did you get to drive the 2WD version and how does is compare in terms of handling?
Unfortunately we didn’t get to try the 2WD version, but we’ll be testing it in the UK in the next few weeks!
finally suzuki change the back door handle .
side profile looks like a small nissan juke
We have a old one bomb proven mechanics
Where’s the swift sport
It always follows a year to two years later.
That road you were driving on was atrocious lol.
what a great unbiased and truthful constructive review
from £17K, Same as a Sandero Stepway. The Stepway has loads more room and top of the range is an automatic as well. Fair play for Suzuki to compete at this level but the Sandero stepway is a better deal
Also may have more rust over time
In terms of quality/price ratio both are excellent. But I would still choose the Swift. The Japanese tech is more reliable than the French one.
@@codincoman9019 my yonly counter to that is the French stuff has already been tested (and fixed) in previous French cars so by the time it gets down to the Dacia stuff, its normally well proven
@@BillyNoMates1974 You might take a look at statistics like reliability. Because facts trump opinions. Dacia is a good low mass-market brand (using former Renault tech), but it is cheaper because it is also less reliable.

how much ground clearance 163mm?
About two hamsters stacked onto each other.
Yet another reviewer who is taller than the average person in the UK making the rear seat room out to be almost a basket case, whereas in reality, most average sized adults will be more than happy to be in the rear, and not just for 'occasional' use.
You just cant imagine how much it is going to sell in India😂😂
Isnt it left side driving in UK? Why the steering here is on the left?
Maybe something to do with the fact that they're diving it in Bordeaux, France
They may be giving 4 or 5 star safety ratings cars in the UK They give 0 star safety Swift in india even in india Swift is most selling car
I love how proudly they show off the poor body gaps and calling it a monobrow
They've ruined the Swifts good looks with daft bonnet, reminiscent of the horrific Proton Savvy. When the advert says that all Suzuikis are hybrids I didn't expect to be using the starter!
It sells like hot cakes in India . Especially as taxi fleet .
I am just curious to know, if it s UK, why is it lefthand drive!??
It’s press event in France i believe.
Don't call it cheap. Call or affordable.

@@Sankalp_0069 Yeah. Due to the campaign, India lost a good car.
Still bigger in the back seat than the new Volvo EX 30 EV.
It's still the Yaris for me.
The Swift is a Swift
Realistically the only reason to buy it is you need the all grip 4WD but still need a small car. I certainly wouldnt be buying any car in this price range until i had test drove the new MG3 Hybrid+.
They still couldn't do a better design than the first swift.
why it says 8,5 lt/100km?
Because he's in France, and to get that 33mpg, it was likely a very short journey.
That goofy front. 😂😂😂 What a downgrade.
It’s not hybrid then??(i don’t consider mild hybrid as hybrid)
To me the third generation swift looks way better.
