“Religion is flawed. Because man is flawed. All men. Including this one” This gets me every time
The words I wanted to hear my entire life.
is no justification for all the damage made by the catolic church over 2 milenia. get out¡¡
Yeah because there are some so called people of God who's conscience and mind is not as pure as they think it is
That's my issue with religion it would be easy to dismiss religion as nothing but evil but that's the problem it isn't. Yes some of the most evil acts in history and prob future and now are committed in the name of various many religions not one religion can claim to be clean. Yet some of our biggest acts of compassion are carried out by those who believe or by religious orders the monk orders in England for example back in the dark ages were often the closest thing to social and community care. It's why religion is a mixed bag for me I want it to be dismissed but it also helps provide a lot of moral courage to many
@@SeizureGmanexactly. I don’t put much stock in religion itself. But it has been used for abominable things but has also created things of incredible beauty and love. It just depends on the person.
The Carmalengo’s voice is so soothing. I really like this final conversation, that the question of science vs faith isn’t 100% solved, but that Robert’s faith may have been slightly restored, if it existed at all.
Soothing German accent, a little like Werner Herzog
He was raised catholic
Armin Mueller-Stahl. He does indeed have a voice both soothing and gentle. That man could read the phone book and I’d enjoy listening to him.
I think it does exist for him. At the very least through his scholarly work. He's probably not religious in the traditional sense but does believe.
Armin Mueller-Stahl also plays Juror #4 (the calm, logical one) in the late 90s remake of "12 Angry Men." Brilliant portrayal.
I know this was just a movie but the last words of the Camerlengo sent chills up my spine ...
Of course they did.
I feel the same when she said, religion is flawed, but only because a man as flawed, all men, including this one. This film is GREAT. Probably my favorite
All men are flawed but it doesn’t mean god doesn’t love us less
Me too, I can see it time and time again..
"Religion is flawed, but only because men are flawed... all men."
Matthew 16:18 "Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means 'rock'), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it." The popes are the apostolic successors of Peter, the rock upon which Christ built His Church. The word "pope" simply comes from a word meaning "father", and it's not even the actual title of the position. The Pope's official title is "Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles (i.e. Peter), Supreme Pontiff (meaning "priest" or "builder of bridges") of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, Servant of the servants of God".
Science is flawed, but only because men are flawed.
Patrick Miguel M. Andrade The gnostic sects denied the importance of a clerical hierarchy. The Catholic Church certainly did not evolve from the motley Gnostic groups, in fact the Church decried them. Additionally, it should be noted that the lifespan of people in The first century could not have been over 60 and the majority of people were uneducated and could not write. The entire New Testament was originally written in Koine Greek but the apostles and Jews spoke a different language called Aramaic. It is extraordinarily unlikely that the poor illiterate fisherman that make up the apostles could have had the funds required to learn how to write fluent Greek as well as it was done in the NT. The earliest texts are the undisputed Pauline Epistles which would be Thessalonians and corinthians and some others. But the majority of the NT was not written by the name we have ascribed to them or that found on them. For instance, the Gospel of John was not written by the apostle John who was the youngest apostle at year 33 CE, Christ’s death year, because the Gospel was written in the 90s CE. People did not live that long no matter how young he was. The history of the assembling of the Bible, especially the New Testament, is very important in its interpretation.

Reality doesn't care about words. According to your logic, I can say "of course the world was created by the flying spaghetti monster", and you'd have to accept it as truth "because I said so". No. That's BS logic.
@@thomasvleminckx have you ever considered that truly Religious people have gone already gone through those same thoughts, questions and arguments you so are so ready to repeat? “Spaghetti monsters” etc? And those people have decided that believing in the spaghetti monster is what’s really worth in the life? But meanwhile, truly Religious people have been all the way there and back. At the end, you can talk about being “realistic” all you want. Omg gurl samee....
Yes but I was really rooting for Ewan McGregor to be the new pope
"religion is flawed, but only because man is flawed, including this one" love that line XD
It's a simple truth we forget in this day and age that religion is flawed because man is flawed all men and when I mean all men I mean all mankind regardless of gender especially in this time when politics and religion are interwoven and used to justify evil and sin

The speech on religion vs science was the highlight of the novel. It shouldn't have been shortened in the movie. It would have given a boost to the movie.

0:55 I love when Vittoria walks in. I simply love Vittoria character. Ayelet Zurer is simply amazing.
How Langdon managed to **not** burst into tears from that incredible gift is completely beyond me.
In reality, that document would never leave the Archives, ever. You want to use a document in there, you need to jump through a whole bunch of hoops and then if you ARE granted access, you're only allowed in there a maximum of 2 hours with only paper and pencils. And if you need more than that... you gotta do the whole process again.
After a failed attempt by Obi Want to become the next leader of the Jedi which also resulted in his death, Luke becomes the new leader of the Jedi.
Interesting. Love it
Ignore Disney. Luke became a new type of Jedi and reform the Jedi ways.
When Pope Luke walks out to the crowd I always get shivers!
What a feeling that must be!
In the books, the events of this film actually preceded "The Da Vinci Code", but I actually prefer this story coming after. We get the weight of that backstory when Langdon comes in here and a bit of an understanding at the end.
oooh that makes sense as to why he kneels at the end of the Da Vinci Code and seems like such a believer.
I was confused why he wasnt with Sophie cuz in D Vinci Code, they ultimately *dated* at the ending
@@ignisardenti2486 Langdon was kinda like James Bond. He dated with a different girl in each book.

ARE YOU INSANE????...
"Make sure, it finds its way home."
I always love this scene purely because of Tom Hanks' reaction when he's gifted the deagramma by Cardinal Strauss.
In all this movie, one of the best CGIs tho. St Peter's Square is spot on, the Basilica and the recreation of the Sistine Chapel too, combining stage set and CGI. True piece of work, or art!
The CGI inside the Pantheon when Prof Langdon and Dr Vetra enter the rotunda is a bit shoddy. Love this movie though, one of my favorite action thrillers.
Im an atheist but Cardinal Strauss words moved me
That's because the actor who played him is a terrific artist.
By far the better ending than the book in this case. The interaction between Langdon and Camerlengo is astonishing because you can for a split second just see how affected Langdon was by his words. Although driven by academically knowledge and rationality, you can see it in his eyes that he almost let his own faith to step aside and absorb the words that was told to him by the Camerlengo.
I just finished watching this and I find the ending way better, too. One instance when the adaptation is better than the book hehe.
I totally agree with you, sir. The book's plot was disappointing in the ending. Also it's a heavy anticlerical novel. The movie instead suggest a reconciliation between the church and the atheist Langdon, which is touched by the last words of cardinal Strauss and by the events happened that night in Rome.

I hate how they change the book endings, the book endings in this case and in the case of Inferno are so much superior.
This was one change that I liked. In the book, all 4 _preferiti_ die, and some other cardinal (mentioned over and over in the book) becomes pope. Which makes sense, but only if you read the book. But in the movie, that would be tricky to do, i think. I like how they saved one of them.
True but the A&D book ending needs not the romance part...

Let's be honest. All this time you thought he was behind the entire conspiracy didn't you? YES YOU DID!!!!
Aye who's choppin' up onions
I think there will be a pope named Luke in the near future, esp if he sees his mission is to heal the Church from all the problems it is facing today and also to promote a reconciliation between the Church and humanity.
Yeah, they even got a Francis I. Could be the start of a trend. Also stepping back from office can be a new trend.
im agnostic, i have many in my family including my own mother is was catholic, i have made comments that humans need religion to shelter their fragile minds, and while I still believe that. I understand the need to believe in something, I am not among those who does but I respect those who wish to believe in a god and a religion whether it be perfect or not.
What is the background music used in this scene?
Hans Zimmer - Election by adoration
The Cardinal spoke truth that everything is flawed.. we are ALL sinners, save one young girl whom bore the Savoir into this world. She was the perfection of God' creatures, the reason a part of Heaven fell because the Archangel in charge when it saw her did not want to share her, even with God. May God be with all, in this time, we NEED Him more then ever. And He is coming...
Oh do shut up 🤫

I have a friend of mine who is Catholic, and I identify as Astarü (Norse Paganism), and we get into, I wouldn't say argue, mostly debate on faith and how God would've needed help with Creation itself. The part where Straus says, "Religion is flawed, only because men is flawed, all men, including this one". That is the one thing that we agree on. Powerful words, no matter what subject.
God I love you. No matter what religion you belong.
I believe science but when science can’t get the answers that’s when god comes in.
God isn’t real so he doesn’t “come in”
How appropriate that the new Pope, who was a doctor in his life before cardinal, takes the name of Luke. As you are well aware, Luke was a doctor in the early Christian community in Jerusalem and accompanied the apostle Paul on many of his missionary journeys to Asia Minor and Greece. He obviously wrote the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts, describing the rapid expansion of Christianity via the hand of Paul through the Roman Empire. As one historian put it this way: "When Paul and Luke ventured out from Jerusalem, the gospel they were taking with them would travel first by sea and then by roads. For the seas of the Mediterranean lead to the roads of Asia Minor, the roads of Asia Minor led to Greece, the roads of Greece lead to Rome, and the roads of Rome led to the whole world."

*Peace and Conflict* "Prepare thy Battles" No person or man climbs into a higher place free of conflict. Men who are slighted will retaliate, and they are often slighted by revealing their ignorance. A man who believes in peace does so because he does not understand conflict. He has superseded nobody nor has ever been challenged. There can be no gain or progress in a peace ridden world and no struggle for power. There can be no climb over another, no competitive grasp, no learning, no battle for authority. When one person supersedes another, the other retaliates because their position and authority are challenged, though better retaliation comes with wit and argument. Some have no choice but to have a physical battle. A person who does not strike back when challenged loses their place. The better battles are based on information. When a person is on their last legs, they will often need to resort to violence. That means that violence is often the ends and not the means. It is the light at the end of a tunnel. First comes information, then potential retaliation, then the retaliation is put down. Peace is a sacrifice of one's heart, and ignorance is hell. There is no truth in the Bible, only secrecy and dead people.
