    • Well someone decided to jump off the first floor with wings, unfortunately he died just a little bit before the floor collision. The floor collision was really bad.

  • Fun fact: Guy de Maupassant, a famous French writer, hated so much the Eiffel Tower he ate there every day and when some people asked him why does he do this his answer was: "it's the only place from where i can't see it" Just wanted to point that out cause i found that kind of funny Awesome video man!

  • During the construction time, because two pillars were too close to the Seine river, Eiffel used "caissons" (metal large boxes) with compressed air, allowing the worker to dig under the river level (while the caisson was sunk progressively ) to reach solid ground for the foundations. Also, during the erection of the first floor, Eiffel used hydraulic pistons to adjust precisely the position of each pillar before ther could be joined by this first floor.

  • One detail of the tower that is gone today are the decorative scallops that stood on the roofline of the facade on the first level. They were very much a visual element of the 19th century and gave it a little bit of whimsy. Sadly they were removed in a shortsighted effort to "update" the tower in the 1930s when Modernist architecture was the new trendy fad. They are a useful visual clue for Eiffel Tower collectors when they are determining an age for things like souvenir models. In my opinion, removing those decorative scallops was akin to removing a lacy fringe that beautified a dress. The end result would be a dress that was still graceful, but lost some of its beauty.

  • You can thank Marconi's radio for saving the tower. It gave the tower a reason to exist. In 1985 I visited Paris on an American dependent tour. My sister was in Germany in the US Air Force. We got as close as the parking lot. I picked up a small rock from the parking lot and then we went on our river boat cruise. I was impressive to see even from the parking lot.

  • Such a beautiful monument, been seeing it since I was a kid as I tend to visit Paris quite often and in-fact just came back from Paris a week ago. I used to enjoy walking under it the most but unfortunately that's been ruined with the amount of security measures that has been installed since 2016.

  • one thing is false, we know today that Dietrich Von Choltitz did not have the means in material and men to carry out the destruction of Paris, moreover the French resistance already held many districts of Paris....the war being lost he did not want to put his responsibility at stake...it was more out of obligation than out of his will that he had to resolve to abandon this crazy project.

  • I was up there last week. We had an amazing French Onion Soup in the restaraunt and did manage to get to the summit for a glass of wine. The views are amazing! Coming from construction I believe it’s is time for all the old paint to be stripped off down to the steel. The rust should be treated on the entire structure. The steel need to then be primed and painted. This will take time and money but that’s what needs to be done for it to last the test of time. The loss of income is what will hold this prices up but it is still what needs to be done ASAP !!!!!

    @anthonypolizze4059@anthonypolizze40599 ай бұрын
    • Don’t worry about it. In terms of money everything is fine for the Eiffel Tower, being the most visited paid monument in the entire world it’s earning a lot. And about the structure rusting and the paint you don’t have to worry too, cause the engineers know well what they have to do to keep it in good shape. It’s just an esthetic problem, if they don’t repaint it every year there is a good reason about it, it’s because the ratio: cost on benefit isn’t interesting, so they calculated the time they can let the paint fade before it causes any structural damage and they need to change it. Believe it’s their work they know better than us what they are doing.
