  • Even though the Twin Towers were way smaller than the Burj Khalifa is today, they still stand out for being twins and looking so massive compared to many other skyscrapers. The World Trade Center is truly missed and the skyline of NYC is not the same anymore.

  • I visited the rooftop of the World Trade Center in the summer of 2001. Also made a video on the ground looking up, showing not only were they tall, they had serious girth and mass. So I did the ride up, with an elevator operator guy who made jokes all the way up, just cracking us up all the way, great guy. At the rooftop I bought a souvenir snow-globe in the form of a NYC yellow taxi and the famous structures depicted inside, including the WTC of course, and still have that sitting on my shelf today. I also bought a pizza slice from a really nice guy, then went outside for the views. So less than two months later the towers were attacked and came down, and I couldn't help but think of the elevator guy, the gift shop guy, and the pizza guy, wondering if they made it out alive or not. It's one of those tragedies where/when many many people will remember how they first heard about it.

  • I last visited Dubai when the Burj Khalifa (then the Burj Dubai) was still under construction and spent a great deal of time in the Dubai Mall, which is right next to the skyscraper. It's difficult to believe that this was more than ten years ago.

    • I was in Dubai in December and one of the tour guides at the Burj literally pointed to where the new tower is going to be built (foundation was there) but all that is there is the foundation. He also statetd they didn't know the exact height yet as they were waiting on Saudi Arabia to finish their tower so they can go higher :) It is magical out there.

    • The Dubai Creek tower is supported via cables and doesn’t have any occupied floors beyond a observation deck. So technically it isn’t a free standing building and the Jedai tower is still going to hold the record for tallest building.

    • I believe it wouldn't make much of a difference if a construction worker falls from a 30 meter height or 1000 meter height. Falling from a 1000 meter height would be much more epic and would make some headlines at least.

    • Unfortunately most of the workers gets treated harshly. Many of them gets their passports taken away by agencies so they can't escape. You can find many documentaries on construction labors in the middle east

  • I still remember how Taipei 101 starts the trend of skyscraper playing fireworks for the new year, no one was so creative until Taipei 101 does it, and the fireworks on Taipei is very impressive, been there for fireworks a couple times, every year their fireworks would even have a theme that match with Chinese zodiac animal of that specific year, the only con about watch Taipei 101 fireworks is it's so crowded, hard to even move, and you also need to stand since 7 or 8pm until 12am comes, if you're not growing up in a big city and used to long time standing and walking, don't try to go too near Taipei 101 for new year, people are there to watch fireworks and new year live show

    • Architectural floor height is different, though. Nor can you just stick a longer antenna. It could buckle and fall.
