  • Decided that they didn't want to go through the next creek Nolans Brook (even deeper) and there was only one way back - and that was across this creek. There are only a couple of exits from the OTL back to the bypass rd, each with a few creeks in between. I think that they figured that since they had successfully crossed this creek once, going back across would be much the same.

  • Could never trade the sport mate. For longer trips like this over 6 weeks with the whole family, we need more room. We purchased the SVX last year and have spent 6 months getting her decked out with all the necessary goodies to make her a serious off road weapon. We call her Monty! She's a homage to British Comedy gurus Monty Python and a cheeky swipe at Land Rover for continuing to make a car that sucks in dirt like a vacuum and has more leaks than wiki. I do love her though.

  • The Challenger actually had a problem with it's 4WD selector switch for much of the trip and would regularly drop back to 2WD which was the case in this crossing. I don't think many fourbies would do too well in 2WD in that kind of muck. As for the D4, not a spec of dirt. Incredibly well sealed unit with double seals on all the doors.

  • What happened to the full video of this trip? It was great would love to see it again

  • The D4 is actually a friends car. The Black Defender SVX 'Monty' seen in this video is our new ride but not a replacement for Black Betty. We'll be doing a bit more with both vehicles and switching them up for different trips as needs suit.

  • Why did the Mitsubishi Challenger put a tarp on the front of his vehicle when he has a snorkel? Im new to 4x4 but I thought you only need to do that to stop water going in the air intake?

    @gr3gwendt@gr3gwendt10 жыл бұрын
    • the tarp helps to disperse water at the front to limit the amount of water hitting the fan. Really easy to damage as simple a thing as a fan and leave yourself stranded.

      @Misadventure4WD@Misadventure4WD10 жыл бұрын
    • guys an idiot,yopu do not spin the wheels in water,easy to go down,plus the tarp helps he new one thing only.

  • i have a Disco 1 V8, did you let the engine cool before going into the water so the fan has less chance of breaking. i heard this can happen

    @colinashby3775@colinashby377510 жыл бұрын
    • we planned it so we had a lunch break when we arrived at Logans so everything could cool down before we hit the deep water. It's not just the fan that suffers from water issues. Any rapid colling can create a myriad of problems throughout your vehicle.

  • Defenders have antiquated (read: terrible) door seals. There is next to no overlap with the body panels and as the car flexes, the seals open up enough to let dust in. When you are travelling on red dust tracks for 5 weeks, you just have to get used to the taste of it. The rear door in particular with the weight of the spare mounted to it is particularly prone to dust leaks. In addition, there are a myriad of drain holes in the floor and boot that allow dust to enter.

    @Misadventure4WD@Misadventure4WD11 жыл бұрын
    • I saw a video somewhere where a guy ( can't remember how) pressurised the cabin slightly and this stopped dust getting inside

      @jimbob1427@jimbob14275 жыл бұрын
  • sorry to say... but it was "already written" that the Mitsu would got stuck on the way back, the one that was the entrance was steep and impossible to do backwards. It was better to proceed even if the next could be deeper as long as the exit was as easy as this one, or otherwise linked as a train with the Defender or the Disco

  • Cool, sounds good, the defender did the crossing easy, I can see why you have it. No doubt down on comfort, but at home on trips like that one.

  • one of three water crossings that the Mitsu got bogged in. Funny thing is that it's his wife's daily driver. Think it will cost him three years worth of make goods to get back in the black.

  • Harry going back and getting stuck... no surprise. Not sure if that's just an relatively incapable vehicle so he feels obligated to over throttle it, or if his driving technique is just so poor relative to the others. Everyone else's crossing was sensible.

    @eb2675@eb26754 жыл бұрын
    • To be fair, his 4WD selector kept jumping in and out and he wasn't getting drive to all the wheels constantly. They are a well known issue with a number of Mitsubishi products that use the electronic selector.
