Swapping a KTM350 for a VINTAGE Honda AFRICA TWIN?! 🇲🇬 [S7-E102]

In this episode, I reach Toliara, a larger town on the west coast of Madagascar, and this means the end of the dirt ride... It also means the end of the ride with my local guide Didier, from here on, I continue alone! And because it will be tarmac from now on, it's time to say goodbye to the awesome KTM350 and trade it for something completely different...

Speaking of power (or lack thereof) I have to admit (maybe a little) I am impressed that the $1000 China bike it made it through.....of course with an expert pilot but it was under a lot of stress for that bike. • It seems to have been a bit of an adventure for Didier too. I'm sure he'll be talking it about for awhile. Definitely would have been a tough ride without him. Thank you Didier, and your brother. Switching from a 350 to 750 I understand, and it brought back some memories. When I started riding, I had a 450 for a year, but wanted the new 1000cc, 78' Goldwing. Didn't even take it out for a test ride, just went and bought it. When it showed up, all black and beautiful, I threw my leg over it and pulled it up off of the side stand. The look on my face gave my reluctance of the much heavier bike away. The salesman said, "Don't worry, it'll feel "smaller" when once you ride it a bit." Within a mile it was as if I had been riding it for years. Looking forwards to watching how the African Twin treats you. Good luck, have fun, and stay safe out there.

  • Couple of (positive) comments/obervations - if you don't mind. 1) You riding skills improved so much on muddy roads - I assure you I wouldn't go so fast on those terrains what you did with your KTM 350 - so well done my Lady! I think those trainings back with Mason Klein helped a lot, also the race events you participated as the only woman was just simply amazing and I'm sure you gained more confident than what we've seen in your first couple of episodes (but you're still were riding great there). So I'm really amazed your capabilities! 2) It's also amazing to see how easily you can just hop-on a bike you have never ever ridden before and have the capability to adjust it so quickly (especially that crazy high KTM 350EX) so you could keep up the momentum with Didier (who has ridden his bike probably for years). And finally I used to have a 2016 Africa Twin (the new edition) (I'm 183cm tall) - and what you said the difficulties with that bike in sharp corners is true (your bike is the Vintage AT, but it's still a big monster compared to Savannah or co). - so again, congrats adopting to this big and heavy bike. And finally good luck with that love hotel in the night :) - hopefully you won't get any visitors :)) Keep up the good work it's been always a pleasure to concure the world with you!

  • I use to have a YZ 490 that I rode on dirt till Hi sided it back in 1989. I broke 4 ribs in half 2 inches from my spine with other cuts and burses. That after cracking two ribs two and a half years earlier . I never said I was a good at riding. Anyway I also rode (and still do)ride a Kawasaki Concourse. Seeing you transition from the KTM to the larger touring Honda remained me of me going from my dirt bike to my sports touring bike. It wasn't quite big challenge because I am much taller than you. So it is easier for my feet to reach the ground. I only quite riding dirt because my wife would be a nervous wreck the whole time I would be gone riding. I figured over the years I had put her through enough worries With my car racing and dirt bike riding. We have been married for over 55 years now. If I had the chance I would ride dirt again. that is why I so enjoy your videos. Looks like a blast to me. Keep them up so us old guys can reminisce. Thanks and God bless

  • Thank you Didier! Your support made trail selection and interaction with the locals for the seamless travel effort. The A.Twin is a heavier sled hence harder to pick up. Tire selection and gearing will determine your best road to dirt ratio.

See ya later, alligator! 😄 The "lush" cacti - kind of a contradiction in terms, but Madagascar continues to delight. Ooh, the Africa Twin purrs. And cool that it is low enough for you. I was afraid it would not be.
