Phoenix Dust Storm 2011 - Arizona Dust Storm Monsoon July 2011 in Gilbert, Arizona | Haboob Cloud
Massive dust storm hits the Phoenix Arizona and Gilbert Arizona areas on July 5th, 2011. HD video footage of the Phoenix, Arizona 2011 Dust Storm Haboob. I scrambled outside very quickly, completely caught off guard by this dust storm so please do not expect any good commentary as it was shot on the fly. lol But I do hope you like the footage! There was tons of dust being thrown through the air, so breathing was quite difficult and the winds began to pick up as the dust storm progressed.

I love the commentary! I watched it come in from my roof, and let me tell you, I was freaking out! Definitely Top 3 storm experiences I've ever witnessed.
I am in total awe. That was both amazing and scary all at once. I was on the west side while it was happening towards Avondale. Just crazy! Thanks for the footage!
Trails, you did a great job of recording this. Best footage I've seen yet.
Ryan, you captured some amazing footage here..Congrats on catching one of the largest dust storms ive ever seen and getting it on youtube so quickly!
Proud to say i was apart of this :) Also of the 4 other ones that occurred throughout the summer
Im moving to Pheonix in a month! I cannot freakn wait to experience this in person! Thank you for sharing!
@Ladue11 Good question. You actually close all of the doors and just remain inside. There is no leaving the house...also, with the AC, we had to simply replace the filters and so far it has been working good.
Tucson pounded by an amazing monsoon, and Phoenix hit with the biggest duststorm yet. Good start to the monsoon season i'd say.
Great recording, thanks for sharing!
My brother showed me this. He lives in Tempe. Great vid man. That's crazy.
Great Clip!!!! Got hammered up in the North part of the city too!!!!!
I'm in Gilbert, too. You made a great clip of this.
"Is gon frum day, ta nite" If you can't tell, I really enjoyed the commentary. . .
that was the best dust storm video ever
Im in Surprise,AZ and it hit us just as hard as this video shows, and we are northwest of Phoenix.. just incredible,, 7000 feet high and over 50 miles wide traveling at 60+ MPH
great video ryan!
Unbelievable! Nice job with the camera work. Hope all was intact afterwards. Thanks for sharing.
Nice Footage Ryan.
@TrailsofArizona Welcome and thanks for the upload!
I had a bad dust storm at my house northwest of Tucson. Is it by any chance if this the same one that gotton bigger going up I-10?
Wow dude quick upload and edit! Thanks neigboor I live there too lol. I saw it and I faced the storm head on, it was badass and i'll never forget. It'd be great to see on featured!
Thanks for posting the video.
For some reason, I love hearing wind chimes in the storms. I also live in AZ. :)
nice broadcast, niceley covered. Thanks for the vid.
Amazing footage thank you!
lol nice video of it! i ended up randomly being in pheonix that day and i have never been in a dust storm before! crazy!!! lol oh and you whistle really good
those arizona streets look so clean
@Crazy21Grl storms. How do they work?
Ry, be safe out there man! Thanks for the video! Oh! 5,000 views. Wow! "Okay everybody, back up, back up... Nothing here but wind and sand, no free ice cream." :)
You got a very good hand for taping. Good shots of the dust storm. Thumbs up
Does anybody know how far it went, and when it settled down?
@TrailsofArizona So Arizona has not gotten enough rain this summer and is extra dry. A large rainstorm moves in, but because the Arizona earth is so dry the strong winds somehow bring up the sand with them maybe like a tornado picks up houses and cars and swirls them around with it. So the cause is over dryness, no rain...correct?
I remember this storm! Was crazy. Lasted forever too.
How long dud it last???
@BestofVideoGames Isn't it had to breathe though with all that dust around?
im from oregon.sandstorms happens in oregon to?
So how much dust did you clean up along your car/home?
@that1nigglet It actually did not rain where I was at, but good point. You would think that the rain would somehow "catch" the dust and turn it into mud somehow...
this is an Awesome video, than you so much for sharing, never been through or seen one of these Dust Storms, I was as nervous as you, this is scarey.
is this the same wall of dust as in the mummy and hidalgo??
Nature does some strange things. Very Good Video !! Thanks for Sharing !! Frankie from Carrollton Georgia
@WCGwkf Yes, I feel better about it now after seeing the pool with the cover off of it...it was worth putting the cover on because no dust settled on the bottom and no cleanup required AND it saved my pool pump.
Thanks for sharing the video... looks awesome from rain-stricken Ireland...
Great video! Thanks for sharing :)
Dude what time did this hit about?
its even dusty up here in prescott this morning...thanks phx :)
awesome video. much time did you spend cleaning up the dust afterwards?
does it rain?
How long did it last??
This was so scary but awesome Im glad I got to see it.
Thanks for posting! Can you tell me what it feels like? I'm guessing that it's like fine grains of sand blowing about? i hear a pitter pattering in all the videos people are posting.. and it's just wind and dust? nothing too harmful, right?
@TrailsofArizona it must be an amazing experience but at the same time scary. if someone that didnt know what that is and saw that, they'd think it's the apocalypse! lol. thanks for sharing man!
@hosey69hosey Are you in Australia?
Wow... it was incredible!, I'm from Venezuela... How long did the storm?
I love this guy's commentary. xD
Hey man great video, I got caught in the middle of this thing coming home from work on the 60.....it sucked....lol
what time of the day was this?
it was crazy how it was day and then dark..i was actually driving when it was really dark.i had no idea what was happening.crazy..did this hit all arizona?
What was this shot with, and how did you stabilize the footage? Nicely shot...
Great video! Amazing
that was insane! im from Calicornia but recently moved to chandler. i walked outside in the middle of it thinking it was fog...that is, untill i opened my mouth to talk and tasted the dirt! dows this happen often here during monsoon season ?
i have been in a few of these an this is everyones reaction because there is almost no wind till it hits you then your blasted by it so before it hits it calm and its hard not to be in awe of a 3 mile tall 50 mile wide ominous wall of darkness silently approaching
How long were you in it for? Great footage.
@trevhopp13 Good to hear you made it out safe. They say not to hit your brakes at all during it, which I guess makes sense. I have yet to experience it during driving and I hope I never do!
Great footage! I've been through one in Texas, but it was minor compared to this one.
I remember that, it was amazing.
AMAZING!
Hi ! which camcorder did you use ?
very good video, its amazing the duste storm
is it raining?
does that happen all the time each year or is that the first time... that is freakish!!!! it's like the dust bowl all over again...
What happens if it hits you??? please respond!
Me and my friend were walking home from the store and we were watching it get closer and closer, and then when it did seriously turn dark in about 30 seconds. We couldn't even see anything because there was so much dirt in our eyes.
How's your camcorder now? Full of dust?
@LovinLearnin We had a thunderstorm down in Tucson that fell apart. As T-storms in the summer Monsoon (seasonal wind shift) diminish, their outflows kick up dust. Powered by the heating over the desert, and fed with tropical moisture from Mexico, we can get some severe thunderstorms sometimes with hail. Straight-line winds can blow down a row of power poles, all falling in the same direction, versus a tornado with its swirling winds. Dew point over 55 degrees from this tropical moisture.
monsoon season is so cool
I was hanging out in my garage watching it as well... I must live right around the corner from you....lol....
Haboob Arizona?
@TrailsofArizona well in south phoenix we got heavy rain for about 10 to 30 minutes right after the dust
Is that normal for Phoenix? I sure hope your house was sealed to keep that stuff out! Thanks for posting....
is this a tornado?????
@TrailsofArizona I understand it now, like a pre storm dust surge. Really apprecieate your video and education!!!!!!
i love how he whistles!
@vacuumfanatic18 I live in Idaho too. :O Where are ya?
What caused this, is this a normal thing in Arizona?
Good video...Thank you...
This was the biggest dust storm I've ever seen. My entire house was filling with dust because a window was open
@inglebear84 Actually the droughts ended this year in California, we had huge amounts of rain on record which got us out of drought from the previous 3 years. I hope every thing is ok for the people in Arizona, that dust cloud was crazy. Weather on the planet is so unpredictable.
@rkenshin0922 Yes, exactly...the only reason I knew it was coming was because I turned to the weather channel and saw the live coverage and was like, "I wonder if this is outside right now!" So, I ran outside and, bam, there is was right at my doorstep!
This is just one reason why I left Arizona a year ago. Go California!!
Very nice job!
Hi, I live in San Luis Mex, this is right in the border with Arizona, this it's been hapening since july 2, the weather is crazy this days, last saturday I was in a night club in Mexicali and the power went off when we came out we couldn't see nothing, the air was like sand... it was kind of scary
He actually wasn't whistling... Those were bursts of winds passing through. That's how the camera mic picked it up.
What a beautiful neighborhood
thats crazy i live in wales in great brition and all we get is rain lots of it but nothing as cool as that
Arizona has it all, mexican food, guns, dust storms, I'm moving there!
I was on lake Pleasant when this thing hit it caused massive waves on the water but it was pretty cool watching it roll in cause one minute it was nice calm water the next it was huge swells smashing against the side of out boat
How do you breath being engulfed in that? Seriously..... Also, I appreciate your commentary. So what...you repeat yourself a few times! When one is faced with an event of this magnitude, one tends to be overcome with emotion vs. logic, and loses the ability to report like a news anchor. You were in awe by this. I understand!
Wow.. that is CRAZY!!!! I bet little kids were freaking out.
you had an dust filter on your mouth?
