Massive dust storm hits the Phoenix Arizona and Gilbert Arizona areas on July 5th, 2011. HD video footage of the Phoenix, Arizona 2011 Dust Storm Haboob. I scrambled outside very quickly, completely caught off guard by this dust storm so please do not expect any good commentary as it was shot on the fly. lol But I do hope you like the footage! There was tons of dust being thrown through the air, so breathing was quite difficult and the winds began to pick up as the dust storm progressed.

  • @Ladue11 Good question. You actually close all of the doors and just remain inside. There is no leaving the house...also, with the AC, we had to simply replace the filters and so far it has been working good.

  • @TrailsofArizona So Arizona has not gotten enough rain this summer and is extra dry. A large rainstorm moves in, but because the Arizona earth is so dry the strong winds somehow bring up the sand with them maybe like a tornado picks up houses and cars and swirls them around with it. So the cause is over dryness, no rain...correct?

  • @LovinLearnin We had a thunderstorm down in Tucson that fell apart. As T-storms in the summer Monsoon (seasonal wind shift) diminish, their outflows kick up dust. Powered by the heating over the desert, and fed with tropical moisture from Mexico, we can get some severe thunderstorms sometimes with hail. Straight-line winds can blow down a row of power poles, all falling in the same direction, versus a tornado with its swirling winds. Dew point over 55 degrees from this tropical moisture.

When one is faced with an event of this magnitude, one tends to be overcome with emotion vs. logic, and loses the ability to report like a news anchor. You were in awe by this. I understand!
