My Mother is the woman playing Sid's Mum in the audience in this video. She was made bed-bound 5 years ago and its been my pleasure to be her carer through that time. She passed away back on the 11th of this month (11/12/2022). I will miss her a lot.

My condolences! My father passed a few years ago and we feel his absence daily, so I thought I'd extend my sympathies to you and your family. It's cool that your mother got to take part in something so culturally significant! My mother would probably be a tad jealous, she is a sex pistols fan and laments the fact that she was born too late to ever be able to see them in concert (not that they would've ever come to our tiny country).

I'm sorry to hear that your mom passed. It's very cool that she took part in this. She must have been a cool mom. I love exposing my kids to punk, I find the humor in it makes us all laugh and takes some of the seriousness out of parenting. Sending healing thoughts to you and yours. I hope you all are well in spite of your loss.

+redospure Quite a few similarities there actually (see my comment above about how they are both often mistaken for the actors who expertly played them in 80's movies). Altho I have enjoyed both of their music and stage presence, I have to agree - Morrison might not have been the best singer of his era (still better than 99% of the horseshit being sold today tho) but in addition to his amazing stage presence he was definitely one hell of a poet/lyricist.
@negativeindustrial8 жыл бұрын
+A. Nonny Mouse It was Sid too. I've read a few accounts of people in and associated with the band reporting this. To be fair tho he learned to play specifically so he could be in the band and had only been playing somewhere around a month before they hit the road on his first tour with the band. Apparently he learned pretty quick to play well enough that a short time later, just before they broke up, he was actually playing on the road. Also, it's not like anyone in that band was a gifted musician - Punk Rock in general, especially the first wave in the '70's, was characterized by pretty shitty musicianship.

LEONARD COHEN ABOUT SID VICIOUS: "I never liked this song [“My Way”] except when Sid Vicious did it. Sung straight, it somehow deprives the appetite of a certain taste we’d like to have on our lips. When Sid Vicious did it, he provided that other side to the song; the certainty, the self- congratulation, the daily heroism of Sinatra’s version is completely exploded by this desperate, mad, humorous voice. I can’t go round in a raincoat and fedora looking over my life saying I did it my way - well, for 10 minutes in some American bar over a gin and tonic you might be able to get away with it. But Sid Vicious’s rendition takes in everybody; everybody is messed up like that, everybody is the mad hero of his own drama. It explodes the whole culture this self-presentation can take place in, so it completes the song for me."

It was absolutely fighting to get away and just before it passed away, it urinated and defacated right on his feet. Sid was holding it in front of me. I utterly regret not stopping him doing that. Why he did that, I don't know. I have no idea, it's the most disgusting thing that I have seen in my life. If I could have my life over again, I would've stopped him from doing it. Actually, there was the top of the pops, the oldest ancestor of Mtv. But the videos they played weren't music videos, i would describe it more as a visualised version of the song. It was called "Promotion Clips" back then and the bands didn't get paid for the network to play their promotion clips. The only benefit of this was that hopefully someone would see your face on tv and go buy your record.

She must have been a cool mom. he was and still is the best musician who couldn't play or sing
+redospure jim morrison could sing and write.so no,i wasnt talking abt jim. sex pistols purposley turnd off sids bass cause he couldnt play.all he was was a stage attraction.he like i said...was the best musician who couldnt play
Lemmy From Motörhead, who taught him to play bass, told- Sid couldn't t play at all
theres a certian level of artistry to the presentation tho. a certian atitude too.
It explodes the whole culture this self-presentation can take place in, so it completes the song for me."
спасибо) thank you for the quote. that's the way it is, it's the way it's perceived

Was also a sad out-of-place kid with a very sad childhood (read Jah Wobble's book), later a heroin addict who ended up stabbing his girlfriend to death. In other words, by the end of his life had become an asshole. May still fit the "legend" category, I suppose, if you stretch it.
I love him too but idk I can't idolize a murderer
Ironically the greatest punk song of all time
What's ironic about it? I mean, maybe the video is ironic in the sense that I think he really meant it and his audience would assume it was a lot of joking. But the song is about an artist at the end of his career looking back on his life. Sid died. This is quite certainly the most unironic punk song of all time.
Of corse
@@andreesengillies4427 the irony resides in the fact that the song was written by Paul Anka and Sang by Frank Sinatra which was a completely different era and genre of music while Sid and Sex Pistols fell into punk rock and he still ended killing the song

I was just going to write that. He punched himself with the mic, and that hurt 😂😂😂😂
Pointless

The greatest cover in music history
I could never understand how this never made it to Top Of The Pops.

“I gotta spend the rest of my life living like a schmuck” RIP Ray Liotta
BANG, BANG
Best beginning and best ending, oh and best movie. RIP Ray.
It's schnook you fool
Believe it or not, but to be a legend at 21 is an achievement not many can accomplish
Brian Mittoo He's only a "legend" because he killed his girlfriend then died himself. If infamy is "legendary," that's not an "accomplishment."
lol the sex pistols are a world-famous punk band which sid was apart of, just because your ignorant of history doesn't mean it didn't happen.
@@AzuraVasquez They were not world famous while he was alive though. Just a scene that they were a part of. They did not get anywhere near as much attention from the main stream until after Sid murdered his junky girlfriend and then got a hot shot from his awesome Mother. I mean, no matter how cool people think he was, for some really unknown reason, he was a loser, with a loser mentality, and a heroin addiction to help out with it. So...yeah. world famous, lol. You know, that history and ignorance of it and all that. Good luck kiddie
What’s your opinion on xxxtentacion? Died recently at 20
@@TheThisguy1983 He's not a legend because he killed his girlfriend then himself! He's a legend because of his music.
Knowing that Sid would be gone mere months later, this hits differently now.

Definition of Punk
In all it's fragmentary glory.
"To think, I killed a cat, and may I say, not in a gay way" Maybe not ironic in his mind, but for me it is, and is thus my favourite lyric of all time.
hectorstable I never thought the word "gay" was used back then I thought they used ..let's say more derogatory terms...
itsagreatfuckinglyrics,
hectorstable not in the guy way
Yeah it wasn't a joke. Heres a story from his flatmate. "One night I went round and saw Sid, and there was a cat that was in the flat. And for no reason he decided to put a noose around the cat and hang it up in front of me... ...it didn't last long as far as ticks on the clock but it seemed like an eternity. The cat was struggling and was trying to get away but obviously it couldn't. It was whining. It was horrible... ...we finally put the cat in a plastic bag and took it to the bin downstairs."
That's because you're a moron

there are many things that piss me off in life. one of the biggest is when people say Sid Vicious had no talent. this is one of the most iconic live performances ever. sid looked and sounded amazing. he took the weight of a whole counter culture on his frail junkie shoulders and paid the the price. but make no mistake, he was great. long after you and i are dust people will still be watching this...rip SID
Monkey Man I find this performance iconic and revolutionary
The other day, I realized how really crazy but brilliant of an idea covering this was - on the level of Wilson Pickett covering Hey Jude. It matched if not exceeded the original and all at the same time is a parody, update, and final testament to Sid.
He was a legend..sorry!
@@jeffreycox6647 I prefer his version to Sinatra's

@@icelinx Bet you're a hit at parties...
Sinatra died almost 20 years after Sid. They were living at the same time but probably very different lifestyles. It’s wonderful how they still managed to communicate through music. Beautiful ♥️
Imagine how he'd have reacted if someone told him he'd be a legend that people would listen to for decades to come. 🙂
Mediocre at best
- He wouldn't care, he'd probably call anyone who thought of him as a genius or a legend a dumb cunt lol
So here were are, in January, 2020 and I still absolutely, positively, unequivocally love this rendition of "my way"" RIP Sid. You're still awesome!!!!
This sounds terrible😀

oh. lol!
This is originally a Sinatra song
I love Sid and this song❤❤❤
66 next month and this still makes me dance
Still one of the greatest music videos ever. They didn’t make music videos in the late 70s. Just genius.
This is a part of the movie the Great Rock and Roll Swindle. Not just a music video. And don t get me wrong, I love this song
SID VICIOUS' VERSION WAS THE BEST VERSION OF ''MY WAY''!!! HIS RENDITION WAS SO ENTERTAINING, NOT BORING!!! HE MADE THE SONG TRULY HIS OWN!!! you bet!!!

He seems so confident all the time and I love it
That’s the power of heroin
@@xtragurl6369 nahhhhhhh, heroin doesn’t really make you confident lmfao. Stimulants like coke do that
Bullshit heroin doesn't give you confidence like that. Maybe not you because drugs effect different people in different ways, but opiates always made me feel like king of the world. Been clean since 2012 and never want to go back to using, but I can't lie when I say I miss the confidence I had when I used. Stimulants for me never had that affect. Always made me paranoid instead. But I have known people that did feel that way on them. But yeah opiates definitely have that affect on some people.

Madonna said of the song: "Sid Vicious’s rendition of this track is truly captivating, a legendary performance in it's own right."
