Sid Vicious on EAUGTV -- Entire One Hour Episode

This is the entire one hour episode of: Sid Vicious, Nancy Spungen, Stiv Bators (of The Dead Boys) and Cynthia (of The B Girls) appearing on Efrom Allen's Underground TV show. Two weeks after this was shot Nancy was killed in the Chelsea Hotel and Sid was wrongly arrested for the murder. After detoxing in jail, Sid was released two weeks later and promptly OD'd when he did his "usual"dose of smack. Several months later Stiv was hit by a car in London and died the following day. R.I.P to all, my friends.

  • I've been a serious Pistols fan for thirty years and I've never even HEARD of this 'Hour With Sid And Nancy' ever! Recorded a month before Nancy died, two things strike me - just how fluent and together Nancy is (while Sid's his usual amusing, goofy self) and the irony that while nearly all the callers are rude and ignorant to them, the couple are way more intelligent and robust in their responses. A fascinating upload, thank you.

      @SabrinaMeShell@SabrinaMeShell4 жыл бұрын
    • @@SabrinaMeShell , the story of Sid and Nancy is so incredibly sad. And while Sid had some troubling incedents of violence I don't think that he has killed Nancy. It doesn't make sense because he was far too stoned for stabbing anyone fatally. He had been knocked out cold for many hours after having taken loads of strong downers and they don't make people violent. There were also so many dubious people from the local drug scene around that night who could go into the hotel room and walk out again unnoticed. Someone else must've been in the room because a lot of money was missing. It's a shame that the police never investigated the crime in a professional and competent manner and focussed solely on Sid instead. If he hadn't died before the trial he would've had a good chance of getting acquitted. And if his mother hadn't been a disfunctional junkie as well she could've tried to have this crime properly investigated after Sid's death. As it is there's a good chance that a killer walked away unpunished.

      @sabineb.5616@sabineb.56164 жыл бұрын
    • @@sabineb.5616 Agreed, on all points. It has always been my belief that Sid had nothing to do with it, and that someone broke in and killed Nancy. Just an absolutely heartbreaking story. :(

      @SabrinaMeShell@SabrinaMeShell4 жыл бұрын
    • @@SabrinaMeShell , I agree! Whatever happened that night: the official version - that Sid stabbed Nancy in a drug induced rage and then nodded off without remembering a thing - is the least likely scenario IMO. I'm not even saying that Sid wasn't at all capable of violence. He clearly did have moments of violence. But it still doesn't make sense because he hadn't taken any drugs which could've induced a psychotic rage. According to the medical assessments and eye witness reports he was out cold and almost comatose during that night. Nancy's mother Deborah Spungen has written a very touching book about her daughter and her relationship with Sid. Nancy was smart as a whip but to say that she was a troubled teenager is an understatement. She caused trouble already when she was a baby. She was clearly different and psychologically very challenged. She needed competent psychiatric help. Deborah Spungen thinks that Nancy may have died because of a suicide pact and that she may have asked Sid to stab her or even could've tried to stab herself and then bled to death. It's very interesting insofar as Deborah Spungen seemed to have some sympathy for Sid and she realized that he was still so young and immature and that he had a very vulnerable and soft side which was very much at odds with his public "Vicious" persona. She doesn't doubt that Sid truly loved her daughter. I don't know if the suicide pact scenario or the idea that Nancy stabbed herself because she wanted to die, is viable, though. When Sid was released from prison he gave this heartbreaking interview where he said that he wanted to be "under the ground" and that he had to keep his end of the bargain. But stabbing Nancy into the abdomen seems to be a very awkward and uncomfortable way to depart from life. And they certainly could've had any drugs they wanted if they both really wanted to die together. I also think that in that case Sid should've had at least a faint memory that they had planned to die together during that night, even if he couldn't remember how exactly it happened. For these reasons I still think that a drug business gone wrong or an escalated robbery is the most likely explanation for Nancy's death. We will never know and because the police investigation was so shoddy the crime will remain unsolved :( But Sid and Nancy's death is such a tragedy and such a waste. As I said, Nancy was very smart and I think that Sid was a very talented entertainer. He certainly wasn't a musical genius, but none of the Sex Pistols was that great initially. But they were getting better. Sid had learned a lot in a very short time, and I think that he had loads of natural charisma. That was a long comment 😊. But ever since I learned more details about Sid and Nancy I feel that their story deserves to be re-evaluated.

Like when that one caller asked the host "why are you so protective of your guests?" and the host quickly said that insults don't add to the conversation, and then assertively asked the caller if he had something to say, and the caller quieted down and said no. I thought that was really funny that people were calling to insult the band and ended up getting shut down quickly lol.

They were both pretty broken people; their relationship was not healthy. If she'd had her shit together she might have been the Sharon Osborne of punk.

    • Daniela Schwarz She's often blamed for Sid's addiction by Malcolm, but she tried to help him, tried to help herself; she brought him to methadone clinics, she asked her mother to contact a friend about getting them booked at the rehab facility where she worked a few days before her death. The only thing Malcolm did to address Sid's addiction was have Nancy beaten up and kidnapped; as if that wouldn't just turn Sid against Malcolm; as if he wouldn't have just found another way to score without her. He did nothing more for the boy until he was clearly dying, and even then he didn't do much. His concern for getting Nancy out of his life probably had less to do with Sid's addiction than Nancy's influence over him making him less likely to do whatever Malcolm said.

As he was growing up his mother wasn't adverse to nodding out, sprawled across two mattresses on the living room floor, with a syringe hanging out of her arm just in time for a seven year old Sid coming home from school! At least Nancy really loved him, however dysfunctional the relationship they had was, she cared! Nancy hated Sids mother so much, she'd physically chase her from the door when she came to visit. The reason being, was that Sid's mum brought clean syringes and juju bees in a giant bag! That was the depth of her motherly love for Sid!... Nancy genuinely cared for Sid, he was the happiest he'd ever believed he could be with Nancy!! The devastation & sense of loss he felt when Nancy was killed, shows just how much he care for her!!! Just because two people are involved in a co dependent/drug dependent relationship, does not mean they have no real human emotions towards each other!!

  • The interviewers look more "weird" than the punks they're interviewing! They look like a gay couple than stepped out of a 1970s rollerskating rink, and now they're interviewing some regular people! Stiv reminds me of Lou Reed.

    • Fuck yeah, haha, and I found myself to consider 'this guy' being Lou Reed for a little while. Nancy looks and acts way more resourceful and reliable than could be actually expected, I think she did really have a serious grasp for putting things together, Sid is Kid Vicious of course but this couple of interviewers is an unmitigated disaster... well, wrong people on the wrong place, actually everything's wrong with them, and their outfit is just cherry on the top.

Even Stiv and Sid's scabrous habits, flicking bogeys, bringing up phlegm etc., look kind of juvenile and affected. (Easy to see it was an age before HIV- the drug injecting and cutting- let alone Coronavirus... Punks would have been the first cohort to die with all the 'gobbing'!)
