As passionate fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's been a rollercoaster of emotions with each new installment post Avengers Endgame. However, the latest addition, "The Marvels," has sparked a profound disappointment, leaving us bewildered and questioning the future of the MCU. Simply put, The Marvels is trash and could possible mark the death of the mcu.
This is the huge problem with the marvels. In our The Marvels review, we delve deep into why "The Marvels" might just be the lowest point in the MCU's illustrious history. The Marvels marks the Pitiful Collapse of the MCU. From an overwhelming number of narrative threads that lack coherence to minimal character development, the film struggles to find its footing. What's more alarming is its heavy reliance on a non-existent movie, "Captain Marvel 2," for essential context, making for an insane amount of exposition that tells a far more interesting story than what we got.
The repercussions of this cinematic misstep reverberate across the MCU landscape, leaving beloved characters like Carol Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau in a state of disarray. The lack of a cohesive storyline has left many fans feeling disconnected and disillusioned with the future of these once-promising characters.
Join us as we dissect the shortcomings of The Marvels and why The Marvels is bad, why The Marvles is a disaster, and how The Marvels killed the MCU. We also explore how this film marks a tumultuous period for the MCU. Is this the beginning of the end for the MCU as we've known it? Could this be a harbinger of a downfall for these iconic superheroes? We analyze the fallout and implications of this disastrous turn for Marvel's cinematic universe.
Griffin (@griffschiller) gives you his The Marvels movie review and The Marvels explained analysis talking about why the MCU is failing, whether they should reboot the MCU and why The Marvels FAILED. Enjoy this The Marvels video essay and ending explained!

    • Honest, Id rather watch The Marvels than any other movie in Phase 4 or 5. I had low expectations for this movie, and it passed them (in a good way). A lot of things make no sense and you don't realise it while your watching the movie... thats fine. But like i said in my original comment, they need to just make Capt. Marvel a bad guy. she could easy be Thanos level because you can't kill her, shes basically ageless and immortal. Tricking her would be the only way to stop her, and if they want to make more women heroes you could have Wanda erase her mind or something, like have something awful happen to her and she goes nuts and tries to blow up the earth and Wanda Erases the memory.

    • Actually the villain of the film should have been Captain Marvel. Seriously it would have been interesting pitting the three lead characters against each other and would have made the overpowered Captain Marvel character more interesting. It would have given the movie a Thanos level bad guy who believed that what she was doing was for the greater good. I would have actually payed to see that film.

    • And ironically this relationship dynamic is a double edged sword that makes sense in the Comics but makes less sense in the MCU. Consider that in the Comics, Captain Marvel as a Comic Book Hero was well, well, well established long before Kamala Khan existed from her initial Ms. Marvel incarnation to her Captain Marvel graduation. So she already had the Social Credit Score firmly in place to warrant such adoration from a fan, or fans for that matter. But MCU Captain Marvel was a Hero largely known only behind the scenes because nobody except for Fury knew she existed. Doesn't help either that she was brought in out of left field with no proper build up unlike everyone else and the story continuing forward had to make meagre justifications for her inclusion while putting the onus on the audience to just go with it and look the other way because her own movie was spent over deservedly glorifying her instead of fleshing her out properly as a genuine character, but I digress... When the whole world knew about MCU Captain America's WW2 exploits long after he was believed dead, she was not known. When the Avengers Assembled during Chatauri Invasion, Ultron's E.L.E attempt, Clash of Ideals and first Incursion of Thanos, she was nowhere to be found. Hell, even during the most important Final Battle in Endgame that clearly wasn't getting Superbowl coverage for the rest of the world to see their Mightiest Heroes battling the greatest evil in the Universe, she came and almost immediately got yanked off the stage until Stark's Funeral. Compared to the rest of the Avengers, she considerably would have been the least known and even lesser regarded by the MCU public to then puzzlingly be held in such high regard since most of her exploits were off world for the sake of script convenience. So in the context of all that, how in the world does a little girl in the MCU Planet Earth that she (Carol) had little to no impact affecting, that she (Carol) never met IRL or knew about have such a rose colored adulation that borders on Boy Band obsession? It feels hollow to be honest but good on them to decidedly use that moment to dial down the fangirling. My favourite version of Carol on screen is always her "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" animated series. Personable without being too smug or arrogant and interestingly had a somewhat romantic entendre with the proper version of Mar-Vell (though I'm somewhat sad it didn't go beyond that), whom she actually derived her powers from. Second is her What-If Party Thor version because I got a kick out them knocking each other all the world map. And speaking of which; "WHAT IF?!" Season 2 is hella enjoyable to look forward to as I did the first Season. Here's hoping she (what if Carol) makes another appearance again.. 👊️😎

  • Can’t believe how badly they messed this up when the potential is there. For tension between characters, Kamala and Carol, learning that your role models aren’t the shining beacon of light that you envisioned and that she’s only human, so she can become her own type of hero and that offers character growth, for Monica and Carol, expand on the tension that was created from Carol basically abandoning her for 30 years but in the end grow to forgive and understand which is capped off by her sacrifice in the end. Also would have liked if Carol did not know about the situation on Hala. Learning about it and why the villain is doing what she’s doing could have created IMMENSE growth for her, learning that her actions have consequences and she needs to be more responsible. The threads were there but the fact that none of that was capitalised on made this movie a lot worse for me

    • seems like woke Disney was too scared to give their woman heroes flaws (flaws are what make a character interesting) They think they're pandering to the women, but no. The fangirls are just as unhappy as the fanboys but that's what would've made this movie a little better y'know? All those years in space saving planets might've made Cap'n Marvel somewhat arrogant and bossy, have Ms.Marvel be uncomfortable with it for the whole movie, and then she calls her hero out in the 3rd act (Captain marvel being Kamala's hero doesn't make sense either considering Carol was mostly unseen by the public eye but that's a whole another topic) another example is in WandaVision. The show could've been a fallen hero or decent into madness story for Wanda which established her as the villain Scarlet Witch in MoM. But nope, Marvel was a coward and backtracked all development she made through the show with lame excuses from Monica and in the credits scene "she read the Darkhold offscreen so she's bad now. No she's not a bad guy, the Darkhold made her like this!!!" Marvel is too scared the break the status quo. But isn't that exactly what the loki series is about?? They should learn from their own story lol

  • Among many other issues, I think Marvel’s massive success has placed them into a creative comfort zone where they don’t feel like they have to try. They’re already had their Endgame, their main competition is being rebooted for the second time in the same decade, and their cultural reach is just inescapable. Because of that track record, they have come to believe that their success is guaranteed no matter what they do and we will just accept whatever they do. So because of that, they just don’t have to try that hard anymore. Compare that environment to Phase 1, where Marvel had to fight with every movie to prove that this cinematic universe experiment can truly work and they put in the work to earn their success by having audiences grow to care about these characters and their stories. Now Marvel just assumes that we’ll love any character they throw at us regardless of the story, tone, and plot they’re inhabiting; and they’ll quickly finding out that is not the case at all. There’s more issues adding to this from massively over saturating this genre with so much content, telling stories that expect audiences to watch all the movies and shows to understand what’s going on, the horrendous mismanagement of Disney plus, and reducing the multiverse to a glorified cameo machine. Not everything is Marvel’s fault, no one saw the Jonathan Majors situation coming, but Marvel needs to start trying and putting their A game forward again. Guardians 3 and Loki prove they still can and if they can bring that energy and effort to all of their projects, and cut back on the quantity a little bit to focus on quality, I’m sure Marvel will get back on track

    • The problem is … they’re kind of right. It doesn’t really matter whether people like the film only if it makes a return on investment. It’s not art, it’s not even just entertainment, it’s content. And Marvel is at a point where people will just watch whatever they put out. They may not like it but they will watch it.

    • @@amysteriousviewer3772Yes but that’s the thing they’re no longer getting a return on their investment. The Marvels is going to lose them Millions. Secret Invasion was outrageously expensive and the ratings were terrible. Ant-Man Quantumania did not do well at the box office. Marvel needs to make better movies now not only to get back to the magic of their previous movies, but in the hope of being profitable again. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 shows if you tell a good story people will go see your movie.

    • True, but I believe that audiences patience with marvel is startling to run thin. Antman 3 literally failed to break even at the box office and unless Marvels sprouts some legs, it’s going to be the first bomb in the MCU. Guardians 3 was the only movie to be a hit both critically and commercially, and they lost James Gunn to DC and the next “Thanos” level villains with Kang. That’s not a healthy trend for this franchise and if they don’t do something to course correct, it's going to get worse.

Thats the problem of meshing different parts of media together. The average movie goer doesnt know this characters, except Captain Marvel and Nick Fury. And those characters are completely different now, or werent liked in the 1st place. Mesh that together with the last view Movies who disappointed audiences and you get the biggest flop in the MCU, if not Superhero movies overall. Most people are not interested in those new characters to begin with and the higher ups at Marvel do nothing to make them interesting at all. But hey, they are great at blaming the fans, calling them racist sexist and every other modern curse word, cause they demand more. Thats something I guess!

  • Disney didn't just tarnish the Marvel brand, they utterly wrecked it up to the point that even comic sales are suffering drastically and the legacy, value, status, impact and meaning of its characters is being severely affected. Can the brand recover from such heavy damage? I sure hope so, but that still remains to be seen. If the brand's current state is the price for 10 years of MCU success, then for me the MCU really didn't have to exist. The damage they have done to brand up to this point is of such nature it's nigh irreparable and if, I say 'if' they (or hopefully others) ever manage to do so, this will remain as a big ugly scar on the brand forever. Indelible, like a brandmark. This isn't just about one bad and/or hokey movie and/or TV series from before the MCU, this is way waaay beyond everything that preceded the MCU and was deemed bad and/or hokey. This is a real value, status, impact- and meaning kind of brand damage that could- and most likely will have a lingering effect. I dare go as far as to say that Marvel probably can't and never will be the same ever again. The brand has become hollow, bland, a farse, a joke, a bad punchline, etc. and a tool for overly political correctness propaganda. Yeah, if that is the price for 10 years of MCU success, for me the MCU really didn't have to exist. kzhead.info/sun/m9tse9amZJmLf2g/bejne.html

But that doesn’t mean that I want to see ones like Jean Grey or Storm in stand alone movies! Disney needs to reinstate the marvel committee. Bring back the likes of Ike Perlmutter and other non woke employees to right this ship. You can’t fix the problem using the same people who caused it. Kevin Feige has to go. For all the acclaim he got for the Infinity saga he’s flushed all that down the drain with the series of shitty movies and shows since. They’ve all been woke pieces of shit for the most part. Loki & Moon Knight being a couple of exceptions. Kathleen Kennedy needs to be fired along with her minions too while they’re at it. However when it comes movies, I do care about good story telling, a well build characther, and Marvel wasn't from the get go, heck even in the comics. And then we of course just have the entire MCU kinda just pushing out quantity over quality as well which just sucks! There is no building in these different movies like before, it feels more disconnected and nothing clever going on. And then I am even more pissed about movies that had SUCH good potentiol in base to then be RUINED by terrible jokes! (Love and Thunder, he would you look at that, the lead is a guy and the movie was mostly hated... soo) but man that movie sucked! But imagine if they utulized that damn good idea! There was so much dark potentiol in there, that could create really heartfelt moments, but also makes you sit on the edge of the seat wondering if he will or will not make it through! But the terrible childish jokes just ruined it for me, heck I couldn't even care less that at the end she died, it felt so damn random. And that is a big issue with these current marvel movies! Another great example! the last dr strange, I liked the movie in general, and I love scarlett which (oh would you look at that a woman that is strong and people love because she is well written!) but the problem for me with that movie was the reveal! Why on EARTH did they reveal it so early that it was her.... they should have waited longer, kept us guessing on what is about to happen, who is involved, maybe create a misguide somewhere in there making you think something completly different to then at 1 point all of a sudden find out, it was Scarlet the whole time! But nope... they cannot seem to really think about those things, and that is why i have lost a lot of intrest in these movies, heck a lot of movies. where politics are just pushed in hard, this whole man vs woman and all that crap I do not care about. And that includes the guys that hate because it is a woman, but also the guys and woman who say: you just hate woman to be the lead, forgetting we had amazing leads in the past that MANY people loved! Strong woman that did an amazing job, but were not FAULTLESS, had their mistakes, had their "weakness" you know.. HUMAN! And again, like I said, you (filmspeak) are a part of it with your intro, trying again to push this dumb narrative.

How much of it is an expression of the recent MCU more than it about this actual movie. That being said, I have to say I agree and I was SO disappointed that the cameo at the end indicated that with regards to the X-Men, they were reaching back instead of forward. So discouraging.

  • Growing up throughout the 90's there was such amazing animated series & movies. One's with creative practical effects & quality writing, world building, character creation, etc. Like X-Men the animated series, Spawn. Random: but Beetlejuice is a really well made movie that uses practical effects & quality creativity, passion throughout the project. It's crazy how good things were in the 90's and now we have no animated series or quality passion projects.. How did everything become so bland, stale, and piss poor quality, especially for the insane price these horrible movies somehow cost them??? Makes no sense. It's also annoying how they hire the same top actors for any movie. That voice acting as a profession is pretty much gone, as well as actual animation studios.. Something's are just so much better if done with animation.. live action just isn't the right way to do things but apparently it's all we do now..

You could have last stand happening while the characters reflect on Jean's previous Phoenix incident, reinforce the Dread some character feel and create more of an internal conflict with magneto... also replace the last stand scene where prof x meets Jean with the one from dark phoenix and delete the Juggernaut from the movie altogether.. the final product I think would be flawed, but passable.. more so than either movie was by themselves... you could even cut in a few scene from apocalypse.. basically all the bad xmen movies have usable footage that can be combined into one alright movie? Been thinking about it because of all this recent fox universe legacy talk...

  • Yep. The movie miss out everything by not making a movie out of the flashback. A Captain Marvel 2 with the Annihilator plotline. Her action, consequence, guilt ,brith of Dar-Ben. Then her marriage with Prince Yan and how the planet brought softness in her. Exploring Monica and ending with Ms.Marvel swapping place with CM. Much to audience's horror as we see the biggest fangirl seeing the negative side that she never supposed to see of her beloved hero. Is what exactly it needed. Then in The Marvels, we see the conclusion. Like 2 part story. I don't know what's with Marvel Studios treating Carol as 2nd hand character. First, she gets introduced in rushed and underwhelming manner. Also ruining the Fury eye story. Then stuffed her in Endgame and now they didn't even gave her a movie which the whole The Marvels is based off!!! They really don't know what they want to do with Carol. As for Monica, I am still confused what exactly her power is . Same with her position in the team. Rodey and Tony /Bucky and Steve / Tony and Steve, worked so well bcs they all compliment eachother. They had something which the other didn't and helped us see all kinds of pov. But with Monica it's ambiguous. It never fully established wether she is side or main character. She felt like a side character forced to be main. However, nothing about her distinguish herself from Carol. Carol doesn't even need her. Furthermore her powers doesn't make her anything special bcs as again they r like Carol's.

  • I mean you realize Captain Marvel is a god aweful hero, person and character right?? Here first interaction with anyone including the Avengers team for the first time is to immediately talk down to them, being ignorant and arrogant. And yes, she was outright ignorant in Endgame. She knows nothing of the situation and immediately claims she could have done better. That's not a hero I want to have on my team. So yes from the start I was like, fuck Captain Marvel, she's the type of stuck up brat that I would ignore and walk away from, and to think people want to celebrate that type of person, shows how screwed up and backwards thinking society has become. While sexism, racism etc. is stupid, its also stupid to blindly follow bad modern trends that take things too far in the opposite direction. If you truely have a neutral mentality then it doesnt matter what group somebody wants to put you in, you will speak freely on the stupidly of any side or situation. And this artificial push for diversity has been an irresponsiblely contributor to many problems today because some people were ignorant, some people were ignoring them and some people were selfish or egotistical. It's time for this crap to stop and take things back to a more rational place.

In a recent interview, SAMMY shared his strong feelings towards the newest Marvel film, The Marvels. He said that the movie is so bad, and that he hated it so much that it made the 2005 film Elektra seem better by comparison. SAMMY went on to say that he thinks The Marvels is the worst movie he has ever seen and that he will not be watching it again. He also added that he does not like the direction that Marvel has taken in Phase 4, saying that he thinks everything was better in the 2000s-2010s and that he will only be rewatching those movies now. This is a strong statement from a long-time Marvel fan, and we're curious to see how the studio will respond to this criticism.

Not many people are going to just say this but there is a definite war against black women having strong nonsterotypical roles created by white men and women. Do a survey and some research in the last 2-3 years, opening of roles for black women in Hollywood means standing there, saying one liners and mostly being forgettable and quiet. It's done on purpose and now all the reviewers can point out how horrible or unnecessary the black woman character is. I hear and see it all the time on KZhead and review magazines. ITS ON PURPOSE. and it still feeds into the racism and fear 10,20,30 + years in film and will most likely continue because Americans and Europe are terrified of unity and that people may enjoy human evolution out of fear and hate. We see m movies to be entertained, inspired and informed but behind the scenes we still have old white men controlling the narrative and until that changes then black women in roles produced, written and edited by White men and men in general who hold the belief that black women are to be held down over other women. Black women in the superhero universes are going to be continually diminished. I was highly disappointed in the film and many women of color watching this flick agree most of us think it's on purpose to recapture "the good ole days." It seems to be working.

Marvel Studios is a business and they need to make money. The Box Office of the prequel films prove that audiences don't care about a new cast playing these characters. Making a new 616 X-Men would also feel like a rehash of the prequel films. Because you would have to revisit plot threads like the discovery of mutants, the public's reaction to them, and the formation of the X-Men. And like I said, audiences didn't care too much about that stuff the first time; why would they want to see it again? I would also like to add that these are not new versions of the characters. Shawn Levy and Kevin Feige have confirmed and suggested that these are the characters from the X-Men movies.

In its grand scheme yes it’s the worst, it’s very bland but when I put it a long side captain marvel I do think it fixes some of the problems with the character. But if we are talking in the grand scheme of the MCU I think they are to one ruining this characters, there is a lot to cover from one movie to the next, and what they are doing is trying to play catch up with the characters instead of giving us a progressive and more natural feel of a character development. For me I did enjoy this movie, it was fun and lighthearted and that’s what I was looking and hoping for, yes maybe the villain wasn’t great and the movie has a lot of flaws and in another universe maybe it was a better made movie but I had a good time and sometimes that’s what’s matters to me :😊
