🎬 In this FilmSpeak video essay we discuss the infamous Madame Web and how Sony is PLAYING Spider-Man fans (again) and why Sony is KILLING Spider-Man.

Well, it seems the disaster of Morbius wasn't enough for Sony and their Spider-Man Cinematic Universe. Madame Web is Sony's latest attempt at expanding their Spider-Verse and while there was potential to make a self-contained psychological thriller about found family and trauma, the film we got...let's just say Madame Web is a DISASTER. Hell, Madame Web is so bad it's good! Madame Web is a DISASTERPIECE. Madame Web is not only a bad movie, Madame Web is one of the worst comic book movies of all time and the primary reason has to do with the fact that Sony didn't have an ounce of care for the character and is entirely too obsessed with building out a mythology for Spider-Man when he doesn't need one. It robs the character of everything that makes him, him. However, it's therefore strange that I walked away, dare I say, enjoying Madame Web? I liked Madame Web for all of the wrong reasons, but perhaps there's something to the idea of a piece of art that is so ill-conceived, so cynical and shameless, that it backfires into becoming something hilariously great. Dakota Johnson KNEW she was making trash and so her self awareness assists in making Madame Web, a movie that is so deathly self-serious with one of the worst comic book villains ever put to screen, amusing to watch. Add in a shameless amount of Pepsi product placement and we have this abomination. Still, there's no denying that Sony simply saw Jared Leto's Morbius as a means to expand spiderman adjacent characters and create a universe that piggybacks off of the mostly solid foundation of the MCU. Hell, even Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson thought they were signing up to be a part of the MCU before Sony pulled the rug out from underneath them. On top of Madame Web being an incredibly cynical piece of content, it hardly does enough to be considered a film. All in all...Madame Web is just another cheap ploy from Sony as they prey upon the goodwill of Spider-Man fans. Griffin (@griffschiller) gives you his Madame Web review and explains Sony's HUGE Spider-Man Problem, how Madame Web played Spider-Man fans, why Madame Web is BAD, and maybe why Madame Web is the worst comic book film of all time, yet is hilariously entertaining. Kevin Feige...RUN!

  • The bad ADR was because Ezekiel's entire motivation changed. He was originally going to try to stop the birth of Peter Parker. That's why you have Adam Scott and the absolutely wasted Emma Roberts sidelined and ultimately superfluous to the story, because the story changed at the last minute. The quality of the ADR was probably because Tahir Rahim was just given a bunch of disconnected lines to read in a booth at the last minute, and by that time he probably just didn't give a fuck any more.

Think of it like this, remember Colin Trevorrow was supposed to write and direct The Rise Of Skywalker? He was fired and his script was tossed but a few of his ideas were used in the film and that's why he still got a "Story By" credit......I think his idea was the force healing and a few small things like that but it was next to nothing

I don't agree with the premise of giving writers or directors who produce failures constant chances until they get it right. That's called failing upwards, and it's far too prevalent in Hollywood.

  • Hmm I think that part was really important: Spider is supposed to be the most human superheroe, anyone could have been spiderman, being on the wrong moment and the wrong time. So trying to make it so Spider man must be peter parker becasue is his destiny or something, is not what spiderman is about.

  • Ok. Let me give you the idea that Sony can absolutely make and literaly chose this idea instead. The Superior Spider-Man. Soft pitch. You get Alfred Molina and an new Spider Man in the suit to have a final showdown like in the comic. Doc Ock wins, and mind swaps out of his dying body. Make a triology about what happens next. Done. Billion dollars a movie and completely separate from the MCU and you can easily add any one from the spider verse into and make it good. Thats it! alfred molina contends for an oscar, that new spider man gets accolades and we are not completely destoryed by Madam Web.

  • The Dakota Johnson glazing is crazy. She gave a mid performance in a garbage movie and just wanted the paycheck. Her lack of energy in the film and the promotion is embarrassing, not endearing. Nothing about this atrocious film should be getting praise. We need this studio to know that we don’t want more of this crap

  • Dakota Johnson is a terrible actress. She delivers her lines soullessly and it happens every movie. She was duped by her agents and the paycheck. She found out too late, after the trailers became memes. I find it amazing that this Channel tries to rip this terrible film apart but creates the conspiracy theory that she is all smart and self aware and is alerting us fans about the terribleness of this movie..... Is this a way to DUMP on the movie while preserving the actress? You know, actors and actresses should also be called out for their terrible jobs...... ""Let's criticize the movie and preserve the actors"... he also defends the writers and the SJW director... LOL... And manages to put all the blame on SONY.. Almost like trying hard to not burn bridges.. Chris Stuckmann 2.0??? Lame
