    • Considering the series has over 200 episodes I think it's safe to say the series takes place over at least 2 summers. Seasons 1 & 2 would be Summer 1 and Seasons 3 & 4 are Summer 2. The Christmas episode and night episodes don't count as the night episodes could take place during the night of one of the daytime episodes.

  • I think that the best age of Marvel was when they took years to hint to a BIG huge Thanos villain. That is when it was fun to watch, because even though each movie had a small villain there were hints to a larger threat. When everything was connected and not everything was so separate.

  • Something these new movies are missing is a multi faceted story which is admittedly hard to write. The Spiderverse movies are such a great example of this. While yes, the story of the first one is about stopping a supervillain with a supercollider but it is also the story about a father and a son who struggle to agree on things. About how expectations can hold us back. About a kid trying to find his identity. And all the other characters have arcs that compliment each other, a story line that flows perfectly and even a memorisable soundtrack.

    • @@checksoverstripes2498 Honestly, as a woman, this saddens me. Cause there's the fact that they *could* write an all female superhero cast and have it be excellent but they just never do because they just never seem to want to write women as people? It's always either we're eye candy or this super-overpowered girl boss who is "strong and independent" and "cool" (which honestly just the female character being unnecessarily rude to any other character in sight). Like both kinds of that representation is bad. They write the character arcs of their female characters BASED ON their gender/AROUND IT. Instead of writing them based on their environments, their psychology, their flaws, their strengths. It's so sad honestly. I wish studios like Marvel would do better in this regard.

    • Wasn’t that the formula the whole time, though? The idea of movies crossing over was novel at the time. Now it happens every movie and we just want a compelling story with good characters. Instead we get a half baked product that really doesn’t have a direction, just the concept of pushing out movies and shows for the sake of dollars. Same deal with Star Wars. Disney lost whatever creative team they had that turned everything to gold and now we see just what was behind the curtain the whole time.

  • rather than a reboot, what I wish they HAD done during phase 4 was wrap up all the current characters save a small handful, then for phase 5 start some new stories just like with phase 1. A big part of what led to the overcomplexity has just been the continuing "everything is connected" as they add more and more characters and more and more content. They need to manage the overall spread of the MCU that they are telling through their stories at one time. Connect it all, sure, but connect it over time.

    • Well, the real solution now is for them to stop making Marvel movies for 10 years, *_then_* reboot it but, they would never do that. Y'know, Endgame really should have been the end of the MCU, & it would have provided a perfect opportunity to reboot the MCU, with the whole time travel thing & the Infinity Gauntlet, it would have been perfect, but now it's too late. They could have used those to create a situation similar to DC's Flashpoint Paradox which could have reset & changed everything, making room for new younger actors & the introduction of the X-Men & Fantastic Four, etc. But, they're just gonna keep running this franchise into the ground until crashes & burns...

  • Fun fact: the reason why Disney+ shows were so bad was because Disney never hired showrunners to plan plotlines in conjunction with filming of the episodes and setting the shows as not serialized content. Disney thought it was easier to save money and have some of these shows as just “long movies” and that’s why like every show feels like there’s 8-9 missing plotholes/plotlines in a rushed finale. The format is essentially no conclusive ending to an episode it just continues to the next scene essentially for “the next episode” the movie and show aspect is very much tied together. It's not really the writers or the directors or kevin fiege it's the ones that own the studio. Kevin and the crew he brought along with him were all still on a clear path of all the things to come in all the others phases, the only problem is is that Disney didn't start to interfere more until endgame was over, and it's not just Disney but other studios that do this.

So, that, as a random example, if you like the avengers but dislike the mutants, you can watch the avengers stuff from second-in-command #2 but not have to watch the stuff from #1? You can trace the decline of the MCU to when Feige wemt to Bob Iger and had Ike taken out of the equation.

    @theseanwardshow@theseanwardshow5 ай бұрын
    • Normally the adaptation is based way more on the original source. However Feige wanted the reverse. He wanted the original source (comic books) to be more like the adaptation (movies). This ticked off a lot of comic fans. A big change that happened in the comics because of Feige is the origins of Wanda and Pietro. Originally they were the children of Magneto. But in the MCU they are 'science experiments'. That idea was carried over to the comics and their origins of being Magneto's children was retconed in order to match the movies. All those real life decades of that family drama gone just like that. Fans were not happy at all.

      @chadharger9323@chadharger93235 ай бұрын
    • @@chadharger9323 Are you just trying to pin everything on Feige? He has nothing to do with the comics. They weren't changed to line up with the MCU. It was a storyline like any other that they've since changed back again so Magneto is the father of Scarlet Witch. It doesn't even line up with the MCU since in the comics it's the High Evolutionary who creates them. Not HYDRA. They weren't even originally Magneto's children. That didn't happen till the mid 80's some 20 years after their introduction. If it was changed for any reason it was the same reason they stopped making Fantastic Four comics for awhile. When Fox owned that and X-Men Marvel comics didn't want to give promotion via the comics so they changed things around. I think the decline of the MCU can be traced to the handoff from Iger to Chapek during the pandemic and the launch of Disney+. All those things happening at the same time crushed them. While I think he for sure can be wrong, Feige’s still their greatest asset. It’s easy for anyone to see it’s not working but I’d say he’s aware enough to know why and how to fix it.

When things start getting bigger and stronger and harder to understand just in hopes of making a show or movie "more exciting" than the last, it stops being relevant and relatable. People lose interest because there is nothing compelling to connect to. I know that doing the same thing over and over also loses interest over time, but if you are climbing at an exponential rate (on top of the over packed release schedule), you're going to lose interest faster. Especially as your fans didn't gain more time and money in the last 5 years to be able to afford to watch all the new content and how it affects everything (if it even matters). They use What If as a place to test ideas and the most well received ones get a show (one show not several movies and shows) based around the universe of that episode. That way they can tell stories people wanna see while keeping things fresh and interesting and mitigating the burnout. For example for season two, the 80s Avengers episode with Ego would make for a fantastic extended story and possibly same for the Tony meets the grandmaster episode. Obviously they wouldn't do this for every episode (probably limit to one or two maybe three from a season) and they'd probably have to move away from using the mcu actors but they'd have a lot more freedom

Did we really care about America Chavez a character we didn't know about or care about? At least with Marvel we got to be introduced to her before we went into the Marvels. Plus Ms Marvel gave a Peter Parker vibe. But other then that . I can write better fanfictions by using the original resource material . • Well Ryan Reynolds is one of the head directors in the Deadpool franchise. In interviews, he has talked about how EXTREMELY picky he is. Like, it takes 10+ hours to put on his makeup for Deadpools face unmasked. And even if one single SPOT he sees is wrong, he makes them restart from the beginning. Not only that, Hugh Jackman went to state that he would retire from wolverine UNTIL Fox gave wolverine and the XMEN to Marvel/Disney. So given Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are BOTH superfans (both going on to state YEARS ago, in separate personal interviews, that "They are made for I was born for ." Hugh Jackman learned his lesson from fox, and wants more creative oversight and decision making involving Wolverine as a franchise, and Ryan Reynolds set up that expectation since Deadpool 1, as I believe he was one of the head directors / writers. So, I would be COMPLETELY shocked if DP3 did NOT feel like a heart-felt passion project.

  • The thing about releasing so many series without fleshing out things is so true. I LOVED Wandavision, but especially their first episodes where it’s supposed to be a regular sitcom that suddenly gets creepy and/or self aware and I thought it was really well executed. I wish they hadn’t rushed this series into so little episodes! It would have been so fun to see more of these episodes instead of it skipping through decades and lore every single episode.

All projects, with the exception of Deadpool 3, are official on pause until they figure things out. The Captain America movie is still happening but is being completely reshot and has been pushed back to 2025. Daredevil season 1 script was ready to go but they realised it isn’t actually what they want for the character or the MCU so it’s being completely rewritten. Looks like Marvel is finally taking some steps in the right direction, and that makes me hopeful!

Marvel is not doing the consistency, especially with the characters, the fact the big players like Wanda and Fury can be vastly different from one movie to another without proper explanations says it all. It's an immediate red flag, just like if one of your friends or co workers suddenly being different from what you're use to, or logically make sense for them.

I think the ultimate universe comparison really drives your point home, we need quality over quantity again and these shows on Disney+ should end up being spinoffs that explore side stories or more grounded and street level marvel stories. As a huge fan of the MCU and Marvel as a whole, I really hope they pull it together and start to deliver more quality, not that the last few shows/movies have been bad, but they could’ve been way better.

    • A soft reboot would be nice tho. They could start a universe over having the rights to all their characters from the start. They could also do a soft reboot and do other film and shows that are like the joker and the Batman movies were they are just creative endeavors that are self contained and don't tie into anything. Having both might also in a way elevate fatigue watching these things. For instance take joker and batman. They were so hand off in terms of corporate oversight and middling that the are regarded as not only some of the best comic films but great films in general and don't "feel" like your traditional hero film or comic film. Also this could allow for people who feel overwhelmed keeping up or catching up on the main story of the MCU could just enjoy self contained projects knowing that's all they really need to know about it and not have to watch anything else. Also a soft reboot would allow them to tell stories that fans feel they messed up the first time. House of M for me was not in the show. Age of ultron should have been IMO a trilogy as ultron is one of the biggest threats in marvel. Secret invasion was a huge pet down. Civil war could have been much better and also an event that could have impacted and spanned across multiple other characters movies.

  • I think the original plan was to have multiple different running storylines each different from the other. I think labeling each one would be good. Like for young avengers have a subtitle under the logo. Or for more cosmic stuff, have marvel Cosmos. That way storylines don't feel as stretched out because they are different parts of the universe. We knew the Marvel Netflix series were in the same universe, but they had thier own problems which made the story less muddled. Agents of Shield was originally connected, but as the show went on decided to have it's own plot with payoffs. But people knew it was separate. So having a couple movies while we get to learn more about this other part of the universe didn't feel like they were just ignoring the storyline.

    • Yes! The biggest gripe that I have as someone whose last movie was Multiverse of Madness, I literally do not know how many hundreds of hours I need to pour into any content that came out from then to now just to watch the most recent film, for example. If they made a clearer distinction that I did NOT need to watch all of those things to enjoy the next major addition to the MCU canon, then I'd be fine watching it. But... They didn't. Plus I'd still worry whether or not I'd be missing too much by watching The Marvels without watching something like Ms. Marvel. They need to make a clear distinction as to whether or not every fan should care about every series that they release weekly under the sun, because that's the only way they'll get out of this without putting too much of a burden on returning fans and fans who lose just even a week of effort trying to keep up with the latest show episodes and such.

  • It would also be good if Marvel appointed people to 'represent this character' for every character they have, with that person being able to discuss with the writers how a particular character would behave. Additionally, state that everything is inter-related in a 'multversal way', something that happens in one film or show may or may not be precisely what happened in the backstory/context of another film or show. Characterization and plot points will vary from time to time, with varying degrees of officiality.

And it’s much worst, if that person has a different interpretation compare to what the original creators had intended these characters for.

    • That's a lot of characters to find people for, but it's not like there's a shortage of writers. Whether or not Disney would want to pay them all fairly is another question. Could have a single person in charge of a side group or family rather than one person each all the way down, I guess. It works, anyway. I've run collaborative writing workshops that function in much the same way.

  • Honestly, i think the bit you mentioned about the characterisation of Wanda is the biggest internal symptom of their problem at the moment. The people in charge of the different bits of content dont know whats going to happen with the character moving forward or where they'll be coming from from their last appearance. If the wandavision team knew she was going to be the villain they might have written the ending differently, if the MoM team knew where wanda would be at the end of the show they might have written a prologue explaining the shift. Marvel is too concerned about spoilers at the moment to allow enough interconnection to make the stories consistent. But as the saying goes, if your story is ruined by a spoiler then its not a good story. So what if we had known that tobey and andrew were in no way home, so what if tom holland or mark ruffalo spoil a couple bits here and there. If they really want to keep a vouple bits under wraps thats not the end of the world, but treating entire projects like these sacred sealed scrolls that cant be let out of the box until they're ready, and then turning around and expecting them to be treated as one coherent narrative is like making a puzzle, making each piece in a locked room with a different person for each one and then being shocked when they dont fit together at the end. Marvel knows what these characters are going to do over their next few appearances, they should plan for it better. I honestly think splitting the creative control is a great idea but it should honestly go a bit further, give each character a creative director, have them learn as much about the character as possible and plan the whole thing organically. For example having the wanda director and the doctor strange director meet and plan what the chracters will do in MoM, theyd know what happened in wandavision and no way home respectively and would be able to plan the transition between those projects a lot better than what we got
