We've solved the ending, we've learned about the ancient builders, and hopefully saved some ender dragons along the way. Even beds in villages might be a recent development since original villages had no beds. So the villagers figured out how to make beds after the illagers had been exiled.

Maybe the reason why ender man attacks you when you look into its eyes because they get a little flashback of what they used to look like before and what they did to the places they explored, killed and looted everything. So, the ender man gets afraid that we will do the same thing and then they attack the player.
Yes! That's what I was thinking about! That they're scared the player will do the same thing so they attack them in hopes for the player to leave and not make the same mistake as them, or that the endermen are just insecure :P
@@PaperBoatsFloat Actually they want the player to go ahead, if you look into their voice lines, they translate into human speeches like "hey", "what's up", "look for the eye". It means they aren't hostile to the player, dunno why they hate being looked at. This is the only puzzle piece that's missing in their story.

I too have a theory I don’t think the villagers created the zombies. I think they created Steve. They actually succeeded in re-creating one of the ancient builders, but what they didn’t know is that they won’t be on their side.
I think the ancient builder was hero brine since he wears the same clothes as the zombies

One last part of Minecraft's lore missed out on here is who exactly Steve and/or Alex are. There's one theory I found on Reddit I personally like, and I was surprised MatPat got so close to it but went the zombie path instead. So this theory is basically that the illagers were trying to bring back the builders from zombies (not counting MatPat's theory around zombies yet), and eventually succeeded in their experiments. They took a zombie and fused it with a totem of undying. By imbuing it with new life, they succeeded in reviving an ancient builder and bringing him back to full consciousness. But the illagers quickly realized how dangerous this had become. They had an uncontrollable force loose in their base, and he remembered nothing about who they were, attacking them and attempting to escape. They killed him to protect themselves and ended these experiments, realizing how close they had come to destroying themselves. However, they didn't realize the Totem of Undying had done much more than bring this zombie back to life. It had changed him. Imbued with its power, he had become truly undying. He blinked into existence, far away from the cursed tower where they had first brought him back to life. He knew nothing of the past, but he opened his eyes and saw the world. And he turned, and began to punch a tree.

Interesting take, I wondered the same thing. I thought that the fact that zombies already existed as of minecraft legends was one of the only holes in MatPat's overarching theory. Your idea removes the necessity of the zombies' extinction and subsequent accidental revival from the timeline.
I thought of something, what about herobrine? I then came up with my own theory expanding on that one. After they created Steve and killed him instead of abandoning the project they went back to the drawing board, not knowing Steve had respawned and was still out there. They realized the problem was that Steve had no knowledge of who they were or what happened, so when creating a new one they had to somehow give it the knowledge of the past. And so they used the one item that they knew held lots of knowledge, an enchanting table. They remade Steve but enchanted him with the knowledge of the past and created Herobrine. They thought he was their hero (hence "hero"brine) and could remake the ancient builders society again. And once Herobine went out he saw Steve, doing the exact things Herobrine remembers that destroyed the ancient builders. Herobrines new goal? To follow Steve and find some way to destroy the beast that is destroying the world all over again. Brb while I go write an entire book based on all these theories lol.

Great timeline and great video as always! The one thing I gotta point out though is that zombies were already present in Minecraft Legends, so I prefer to think that the Illagers succeeded in creating an ancient builder - the player, just that they had no control over them. That would also explain why we're the only ones left.

For all my beef with a few of this channel’s theories, your Minecraft theories have always been some of my favorites
same, his minecraft theories dont feel out of the blue and use a lot of in game clues to actually explain the lore. i also like how he often uses real life examples of a similar thing to explain it, humans/ancient builders are silly creatures, its ngl cute to see our own human history showcased in a game.

11:35 here's an important note, blaze can only be found in fortresses. So it's easy to extrapolate that the blaze were created as guardians of fortresses. Not to mention their relationship with magma cubes mentioned in the mob beastiary. I don't have the book so I'll probably edit this comment with it when I find it along with other evidence.

Minecraft is the epitome of just how much the game theorists overthink, and it's beautiful. Sure, from the outside you could strand together some lore from Minecraft, but overall has no story. But Matpat and the crew managed to pull together a fully cohesive and plausible theory off of very little. This is why we love them.

Technically there *is* a story somewhat. Jeb mentioned almost adding a lore update and they made some changes to ravagers due to lore conflicts. So there is a something there, but we don't have nearly enough info to know what it really is

So the moral of the story is to play on adventure mode?
There are a few things I would like to comment. 1: How do you explain that the ender dragon is the only mob that doesnt make skulk spread when killed next to a catalyst? I personally think that rhe dragon was a robot made by the builders to protect the access to the end from some ennemies. This would explain why the main island is so far from the other end islands, why the dragon movements and sounds are so robotic and why there are a lot of dragon heads in the end, in the ships. This dragon as well as elytras could have been inspired by phantoms (phantom membranes are used to repair elytras). 2: It cant be possible that greenhouse gases heated the nether so much as light can't reach this dimension: there is a bedrock ceiling on top of the nether. And how were pigs even introduced to the nether? They are not an endemic species like magma cubes or striders, because they burn in fire and lava... I personnally believe that the builders introduced them to the nether as a source of food but they evolved into piglins and hoglins. The piglins were used as slaves to mine gold while the hoglins were still used as a source of food. When the builders left the nether, piglins remained in their ruined bastions (built by the builders) until they realized that they needed to find a new, safer home. This is when I think they attacked the oberworld. 3: I find the way you perceive the creation of undead mobs a bit weird, because, as their name suggests, they once used to live but now are dead. So I think that they basically consist in an epidemy of some kind, which attacked the builders who decided to bravely return to the overworld from the end (before the dragon was created and the portal closed though). I know that I dont have many proofs, but it sound more convincing to me...

My theory is the wither was created in the Mesa biome because of it there is no structure in there other than broken mineshaft entrances. All of them got destroyed. And the wither being chiseled on the red sand stone is another clue.

It would be so cool If the pillagers made Steve. After all, their is a problem. If the Pillagers wanted to ‘bring back’ the Ancient Builders it mean’t the builders had disappeared. So where does the player come from? That is still left unanswered. Who are we? What are we? When did we come? Where did we come from?
Its kinda cool how steve is this godlike figure, the last of a long since dead race, a being of infinite strength and endless wisdom, and yet even with all this power he chooses to simply live a life of peace in a humble cottage in the woods with his dog, his cat, and farming happily and content with his existence

I was just about to go into highschool, sitting in my home on the carpet of our old hallway when the first Minecraft theory came out. Now I'm graduated from college and doing the daily grind, so seeing a finished Minecraft theory brings a weird nostalgic feeling.

I love this video so much! I just have some questions. 1. The connection between pigs and zombie piglins is in the game. A pig gets struck by lightning and turns into zombie piglin, and I would have liked if that was mentioned. 2. Why do Zombies turn into drowned? I may have a theory; which is that they are drowning in the water, just like builders, but it doesn’t make sense why their clothes somehow become all withered and tattered. 3. How do the end ships fly? That’s all. I’m gonna miss the theories made by MatPat, but this is also the start of a new era on Game Theory.

One thing you did not mention is why did the desert tribe go to the nether to find lapis when they also made mineshafts. My theory is that there was next to no lapis in early days since lapis contains soul energy and not enough creatures had died. The wither killed many mobs and ultimately was the reason for all the lapis found in the modern overworld.

Egyptian funerary contexts did NOT have traps, that's Hollywood. They mostly didn't even have intentionally tricky hallways. The only aspects that could be seen as tricking for looters are "false doors", but those were made in belief of the soul passing through them and connecting the human world with those of the afterlife. Lovely video however!

Ok just finished watching and every theory I watch I come up with a small theory in my head but I feel like this one is worth commenting: what if we are the ancient builders and every minecraft update is the next generation this would make sense because things like wither skeletons and illagers weren't added until later so we were there before BUT THATS JUST A THEORY A GAME THEORY I'm gonna miss you can't wait for the next theory event❤

Now here's a cute idea : The Sniffer, a long extinct mob can be found and brought back through the player's action. Minecraft could also be a tale on how the player can do their best to undo the errors of the ancient builders. The same thing goes for freeing the end, cleaning up ancient cities or conquering the Ocean Monuments.

Easily one of your best videos MatPat. It amazes me how you continue to put out such great content after so many years.
There are several holes. 1. "builders" don't become drowned, zombies do. 2. Villagers can become zombies, indicating some kind of prior relationship... indicating some relationship between Steve and villagers. 3. The way zombies work in-game indicate that they are undead, and the item enchantments reinforce this. If they're simply a failed woolen experiment of the illagers, why do they have that power? I also think it's a stretch to say that the ravagers are the results of experiments on villagers just based on their cosmetic similarities. Where are the indicators that these experiments took place at all?
I like to think of Steve's part in the story as just showing what every unique ancient builder could've been like. Some build massive structures and show their building prowess and craft, others are simple and love to stay in tiny wooden houses in peace.

Illagers are probably just aggressive now and that makes sense because 1. Where are Steve’s parents and 2. If they made zombies why they in Minecraft legends
To expand this theory: 1. Both are creations. Zombies are the failed experiments. Steve is the success. They tried and tried again until Steve was created. 2. Steve can't be controlled by the Illagers, hence Steve becomes Illagers' enemy. Staple plot from stories of uncontrollable monsters. Created a monster > Monster can't be controlled > Monster lay waste to everything > Destroy the monster. 3. The reason why Steve was still alive even though thousands/millions of years had passed after the ancient builder's extinction is because Steve is not really their descendant, but was an Illagers' creation to replicate the ancient builders.

I’m gonna be truthful. Something I do often is just find a village, pick an empty home, and then be a farmer and defender for the village. Why do I do this? Idk but it’s fun to build a fence to protect everyone and just focus on the farming

I feel like you’re missing one important detail, in Disc 5 you can actually hear sounds from the Endersent from Dungeons, which if it was a fight between the wither and the warden, it wouldn’t make sense to put an Endersent sound

I think the two gods talking to us during the ending credits are 2 of the hosts, and are trying to warn the player about what happened, and I say dungeon happens after Minecraft or sometime during it, when more of the ancient builder descendants return,

This was the theory that pulled me to me into your channel I feel sad but also a bitter sweet feeling seeing its end
Couple things I think are still missing: 1) the link between piglins and pigs especially since zombified piglins can still be created from a pig being struck by lightning 2) the fact that yes, illagers do have blue wool, but I don't think they made zombies because zombies turn into drowned and honestly the link between the two is… too strong to ignore. I'd be inclined to think that before the Wither Boss, zombies were already decimating the ancient builder societies 3) I liked the mushroom theory. I feel like it's important to work out which was around the mushrooms spread especially with the design you pointed out with the zombie pigmen?

A month ago, I went back and rewatched all of the Minecraft theories, then saw the Warden theory. I was hooked. I remember watching Game Theory years and years ago. At least 7 years now I'd say. Shoddy Cast's "Fallout ____ makes no f*****g sense" series as well. Sad to see them both come to an end, but happy to have experienced them
