    • @@caribbeantigress Hominoidea is taxonomically classified as a subset of Catarrhini (the Old World monkeys), so apes are monkeys by definition. We humans are classified as a subset of Hominidae (the great apes), so funnily enough you and I are literally monkeys too.

    • Hmm humans bipedal ability may have come from the common ancestor of gibbons and humans, although for humans bipedalism was developed further but for gibbons and orangutans it was partially lost after they became specialized for living up in the trees, and for chimps/gorillas they specialized for knuckle walking.

    • @ElectroSalvo that was back in the day when those animals are still abundant and people have limited access to livestock. Nowadays, it is both illegal and frowned upon to hunt wild animals for food because of conservation policies and health concerns. Monkey meat is most certainly not on anyone's menu now due to fear of the ebola virus and the fact that a lot of people now tend to see monkeys as almost like humans.
