After 25 years, chimpanzees Doll and Swing still recognize their old friend, Linda Koebner. From the award-winning film WISDOM OF THE WILD, this excerpt captures the emotional reunion between two former laboratory chimpanzees and the woman who helped them transition to a life without bars. Produced, written, directed and narrated by Allison Argo for PBS' Nature Series.

I know, I know there is a lot of unethical stuff going on and ideally we would find some other way. Other ways are in the tube, too. At some point we will have computers powerful enough to simulate the very complicated bio-chemical interactions, which chimps and other primates have been used as analogue for.

It is a very primitive argument, which just tells that humans believe that they are better than other species and therefore they have the right to fuck up the others, because they have no power to fight against us.

We got the abillity to work together as a team but so does Hyenas. Ever seen Hyenas hunt? Perfect teamwork when hunting until its time to eat. We're nothing more then animals who can work together when its in our own benefit and betray eachother when the other person isnt benefitial anymore.

      @pascalpaps3139@pascalpaps31393 жыл бұрын
    • @@pascalpaps3139 unfortunately for you it's not all black and white. Animals aren't capable of our level of intelligent thought. It's been proven numerous times. We are capable of things that no animal has ever been. Hyenas are gifted scavengers-yes. But when was the last time you saw a Hyena fire a gun? When was the last time you saw a wolf build a city? When was the last time you saw a tiger use electricity? Humans are complex creatures. You're trying to boil us down to treacherous, evil beings. Perhaps the humans you've interacted with made you think this, but humans aren't evil- humans are flawed. Humans are capable of genuine love and compassion. If we weren't we wouldn't mourn the deaths of people close to us. We wouldn't marry or care about our mothers and fathers. Animals don't have the same level of thought. Can an Animal love and be loyal to you? Perhaps. Maybe he remembers when you fed him or protected him. Maybe he sees you as a member of his pack or family unit. Humans and Animas have existed for many, many centuries. And in the earliest days of humanity humans hunted animals and hunted alongside animals. If you've never seen the full extent of human compassion then I pity you. But stop trying to act like every human is evil.

      @secondpath5148@secondpath51483 жыл бұрын
    • @@secondpath5148 Anything you said from "Animals aren't capable" to "Tiger use electricity" is the exact same thing I said when I said "Humans are nothing more then INTELLIGENT omnivores that can MANIPULATE OBJECTS". So basically you agreed with me there. If not then I agree with you on that part. I'm not trying to boil us (entirely) down to evil beings. I said if we were FULL carnivores THEN we would be COMPLETE evil beings indeed. Humans are capable of love and compassion, so are other primates. "Humans and animals existed..." Humans ARE animals period! It's not because we can rationalize and ponder about the meaning of life that we are different from them. The truth is that we are all animals rather you like it or not. Put somebody in a life or death situation and you will see how quickly the animal inside comes out. When a father has 5 children and he passed away, observe how his children will behave when its time to cash in the inheritance. And I guess you can pity me because i never met a genuine decent person in my life. If you can find that unicorn then please let me contact him/her.

It's because we eternally long for universal unity; to belong, to be at true peace. And when we bare witness to moments like this, it re-instills within our souls that longing for unity... a hug which ends division. And love, the one thing that can truly heal and set you free from the oppression and the greed of those who just want to watch the world burn. It may sound deep, but I truly believe it is the truth. Love is key to it all.

    • Yeah, let's not romanticize anything here. Humans can be just as forgiving and loving, and chimps can also be violent and cruel. They've been observed murdering each other, slaughtering entire rival troops, singling out and violently bullying weak members of their troops, etc... Take the good with the bad and realize that they are just complex animals, like we are. They share 99% of our DNA, after all.

    • YazziJazzi oh shit, I just saw you said the same thing right after I commented... nice hahaha. Ya know this got me thinkin now... maybe men are rulers of the world and woman were and kinda still are suppressed, because men are not the tough ones in reality. The shit woman have had to endure as far as being in power... shows immense strength on our part. A strength worthy of acknowledgement when compared to men enduring the same suppression and abuse in war, for an example... To endure such a war and suppression and imbalance..... it shows the easy and fear ridden path many men took to gain “power” all to that gender exclusively.... woman will rise and be in power eventually, I’m sure of it. And I got a feeling they’re gonna do damn good.. There are crap people in both genders of course... but woman are somethin else ya know? And of course we need men to balance that... but anyways, yepp aha. I’m rambling. Cool shit.. ha
