Kalia - The Lost Gibbon is a short film that takes a brief look at the life of a particularly charismatic Western Hoolock Gibbon in the forests of Northeast India.
The Hoolock Gibbon is one of the rarest primates on this planet. Today, their populations stand threatened by poaching as well as habitat loss due to human encroachment. The film uses Kalia as a lens to explore the broader status of the species and its rapidly declining territory in Northeast India.
This film provides a glimpse into the life of Kalia and the people who loved her. In memory of Kalia, 14th January will be celebrated as World Hoolock Gibbon Day

This has broken my heart. 30 + years she was a friend to all in that village. That poor elder was in so much pain he regretted getting so close to her. RIP.
How about the elder should have regretted not helping relocate Kalia to another area with wild Gibbons. Or better still not having been responsible for destroying the forest in the first place to build his farm. In the end it was Kalia who should be the one regretting her friendship with someone who didn't protect her.
@@charlesmartin1121 People have to make a living how they can. All the food you've eaten came from a farm where they encroached on wildlife.
@@The_Gallowglass That does not absolve a person from looking after their friends. And Kalia was a friend. Further I am no vegan tree hugger, and would happily eat you if it was a matter of survival.
The old man's conclusion is the most impactful thing in this video. He seems to be feeling guilty for killing the gibbon, as being close to the village was the reason it got into that situation.
He should feel guilty. If Kalia was a member of his family, he should have protected her like a member of his family. Better he should have called wildlife protection officers to relocate Kalia to another area which had wild Gibbons. Or better still farmers like him should stop destroying the Gibbons forest habitat in the first place.
He didn’t say he killed her though, he was saying the men were able to kill her because they were to get close to her because of her friendliness.

Kallia was indeed one of the most gentle loving souls who came to this world as an ape, gibbon or whatever name or species . The very sheer fact that she understood and felt love and affection with other souls such as humans and dogs was really remarkable and so valuable and spirited . She was a messenger of love and peace, gentleness and humanity . 😢😢😢❤
Humanity? It was negligent humans who failed to protect her from other humans, which spelled her unfortunate demise. Maybe 'humanity' in that context isn't all it's cracked-up to be.

I don't know about jail for life, but in the usa, animal cruelty will give you up to 7 years in federal prison. Killing a protected species 1 year and up to $50,000 fine.

I can understand that as a parent you would be upset if any animal bites your child, but at the same time knowing that your child also previously hurt the animal on purpose the correct thing to do would have been to educate your child that you must never hurt and any animals but to also take great care and pride to protect an endangered species. If the child would have been taught better, and it doesn't appear the child has good role model either. Yes if someone or something hurts an animal more times than not that animal will remember. It's sad story all around because she should have had a mate and be living in forest trees. I pray poaching is stopped and harsh punishment comes to those that are caught poaching and harming,killing these and other animals, people don't stop to consider what about when they are hunted and poached to extinction?
