BB and JJ well they get the cat card which is an excuse for any cat behavior other than show cats with outside groomers

    • You gotta remember, EVERY cat is Bruce Lee. They hit harder and faster than just about anything, pound-for-pound. They're far harder to handle than a dog of comparative size. These are pretty big cats too. I myself have a 6-7kg (13.2-15.5lbs) female cat (Joss) and before that I had a male that weighed 8-9kg (17.6-19.8lbs) and neither of them overweight, just large cats. If you've ever had a cat that size grab you and give you a bunny kick or two, you know they can dish out the pain lol 😂 And that's to say nothing of their teeth. A cat's tooth will pierce flesh easily as a red-hot nail.

  • It's great to see Scottish Folds who don't have the ears from the mutated gene. I hope these cuties therefore aren't prone to all the awful health problems those with the folded ears have. Goodness knows how Tumbleweed was a show cat, but he is a handsome boy. BB looked like she was plotting your demise. The look on JJ's face in the rage cage pressed against it made me laugh and she looked like she'd lost all hope at that point. Considering their fear all 3 did very well.❤

    • Thankfully, these babies are healthy. Breeders has found that for Scottish Folds to not suffer joint pain that a cat with the folded ears must be bred with one that has straight ears, which produces about 50% of kittens with folded ears. If two cats with folded ears are bred, they produce 100% kittens with folded ears but the kittens will have arthritis before they are even done growing. I like sharing that info in case it reaches the ears of someone who wants a Scottish Fold in hopes it would make them decide to purchase from a responsible breeder.

  • This made my day. My sweet ginger boy, TJ Hines, died on 14 October 2023 from intestinal lymphoma. I miss him very much. He was such a good boy and loads of mischievous fun. He was part of a county registered TNR colony from my work that my friend and I decided to help out with after their caregiver was hospitalized. One day, during their lunch feeding I separated my boy from the other cats so he wouldn't hog all their food. He was so grateful that I took the time to tend to him exclusively that he claimed me as his hooman that day. So for 2 months, I worked with TJ to get to know him and vice-versa, feeding him, etc. There were times when he almost followed me into work, lol. After work he would be close to my car meowing to me. So I asked their caregiver if I could be his hooman and she kindly gave me her blessing after observing me with him. We successfully worked to home all the other cats in the colony, too. Who rescued who, amirite? TJ and I had a great 8 years together. Now he's crossed over the rainbow bridge. Even feral cats deserve our love. ❤

Instead of combing the fleas out and killing them in soapy water, which I did for a little while, I figured a bath would be more thorough and work well while he was still small. To ease his mind, I'd clip his nails and take a bath with him. He actually grew to like it and as an adult, he would always come into the bathroom to investigate when I took a bath. He would sometimes be willing to take a bath with me, but once rid of the fleas, he didn't really need it. I really miss him. I named him Daniel Dingus McGee.

    • @@BlackWidow00741Is she not food motivated or just not hungry? Are you restricting her food to meal times or allowing her to free feed? Jackson Galaxy had some good videos on this topic. For training a cat to accept nail trimming, first you need to get them comfortable with you touching and manipulating their paws. When you are petting her normally, add in petting her legs and feet. Go slow, and stop before she has a significant negative reaction - otherwise you train her that reacting makes it stop. Make sure to give her extra of her favorite type of pets as positive reinforcement. Once she allows her paws to be pet, start gently sliding your fingers under her paws as well. Gently press on the top of her paws to get her to extend her toes and claws. Again, go slowly over the course of multiple days/ weeks of doing this every day as part of normal petting. Once she is used to her paws being handled, then you can bring out the claw trimmer. You may want to let her sniff it and investigate first - don't even use it to trim her claws the first time, just give her pets/treats as a reward for allowing it near her. When you are finally ready to trim her claws, only trim one or two the first several times you trim. Also be careful that you are not hurting her by cutting them too short - avoid the quick.

An example of why is that the percentage of inbreeding is rising with each generation resulting in for one example shorter lifespans for golden retrievers. By perfecting and closing breeds we doom them.

      @wordzmyth@wordzmyth6 ай бұрын
    • Since we are so perfectionistic and want breeds to breed true with little variation we probably should just start cloning our "breed perfect" animals so we don't keep reducing the gene pool through the generations. Or bring mixed breeding back in so that it is not turning into a gene puddle.

      @wordzmyth@wordzmyth6 ай бұрын
    • Yeah we were having a discussion about cat breeding yesterday. There have been so many changes done in the last century in particular, huge numbers of modern cat breeds are only about 50 years old and all descended from a very small number of individuals (sometimes all trace back to a single cat) and things like Maine Coons have grown in size massively over that time as well to their detriment. I feel like almost all of it's just aesthetics as well - in dogs *most* breeds have been around for a long time compared to cat breeds and were originally bred for a function, there are legitimate reasons for people to want certain dog breeds because even though the dogs are still individuals and their personalities can't be predicted, there are trends where they're more likely to fit certain lifestyles and it would be stupid of me to get something like a husky or border collie when I can't meet their exercise requirements. With cats there might be a few personality differences between breeds but they're much less variable than dogs. I don't personally see any reason to get one particular cat breed over another and if I get one it will definitely be coming from a shelter (unless a stray just decides to move in with me, which is how my oldest sister got her old girl).

      @maryb8150@maryb81506 ай бұрын
    • Yes, you cannot breed two cats with folded ears together because if a kitten gets two copies of the messed up cartilage gene... Well it's even worse, I'll leave it at that. Ethical breeders don't want to have a full quarter of their litters being health nightmares, and whether or not you have one parent with straight ears or both with folded you'll have half the litter be adoptable fold kittens, so there's literally no benefit to breeding extra-sick kittens.

      @Ariento@Ariento6 ай бұрын
    • It's the same mutation that causes the painful and disabling Ehler-Danlos syndrome in humans. Fold ears are heterozygous for the condition, so breeding two together will give you, on average, two fold ears and one straight ear (which doesn't carry the trait). The litter may be smaller because kittens that get both copies of the gene die before birth.

  • My fave groom is Tumbleweed. I love BB’s temperament the best. And I love JJ’s coat pattern the most. I’ve just watched the whole video again! You did so great! Three kitties in a row is a work out! Good job Vanessa!

  • Oh my goodness Tumbleweed is a squirmy little dude! He's really cute though. They all have such lovely coats! Poor BB did NOT like the dryer, did she? "WHY IS IT SO LOUD AND WINDY IN HERE??" I like JJ's spots and stripey tail.

  • A tip: I've found it easier to clip my cats claws if I'm standing/sitting behind them and pulling their paws out straight in front of them. When their paws are held at an angle instead, they instinctively resist their paws being held as it feels like their paw is in a trap.

    • I mostly clip the claws of my cat because she has a tendency to get stuck in things, like the bed sheets... She often lies down with her feet out right next to me, so I just take some when I get the chance. If I hold on to a foot she runs away instantly but if I just lean in with the scissors she is completely fine.

  • BB (The white one) was just waggin' that tail like a puppy dog.....meaning she wants to kill. Then when I watched you dry her in the rage cage, I could hear a song in my mind: Nowhere to run to, baby. Nowhere to hide. 😅 She is such a gorgeous cat! ❤ JJ (The big calico) was absolutely beautiful, too. ❤

  • I hope one of these days you get a cat who likes water. Then we can watch you try to keep the cat from getting back _into_ the tub. Our neighbors had one when I was a kid, and no bathtub was safe.

  • My beautiful black cat, Thorne, doesn't mind rain. She'll come inside wet all over from being out in the long grass in the rain. And she hasn't given me scars the few times she's needed bathing. Snow however, she HATES snow. She picks her feet up really high (like most cats in a puddle) and complains the whole time. Last year I came out onto our covered porch to find her curled up 6 inches from the snow, growling to herself.
