    • You can absolutely keep it short. The dog won't have that classic puli look, but it doesn't matter for the animal. The hard part is keeping a high energy herding dog properly stimulated.

    • @@veronicabeattie1744i think at 80% dry the remaining 20% will air dry quick enough to not mold. 20% air dry may take 24 hours, 80-100% air dry could take many days. No locs but i have super thick coily African American and hair and when it’s bound together my hair will take days to dry.

Grew up with a puli right across from us, they are incredibly inteligent, and he never went indoors, not even in the coldest winter - he had a job protecting the house and herding us kids after school 😂 - he was a happy and helathy dog living to 15 yrs. Forgot to mention he loved "sandbathing" so I think that is partly what helped keep his coat healthy. When we would go down to the sandy riverside , he enjoyed rolling around in it, the a big shake getting it all over us😊

  • I'd love to repeat the comment I left for a Komondor as I love to talk about my boy. I grew up with a Puli dog. What a fine boy he was! So independent and intelligent, he rode a bike with me. He was sitting on a trunk like a second bicyclist in a human pose with his front paws on the back of my saddle. Each time I took a bike out, he would get so excited. When he wanted to get into the house from the yard, he wouldn't move until someone said, "Please come in". No one taught him that, he just decided so. I don't think we did everything correctly with his coat but we certainly did our best. It was pre-internet time, we didn't even know we had a Puli. Some kids tried to put him in a dumpster when he was a puppy, a driver from Grandpa's work rescued him and took to the workplace. That's how he ended up with us. Grandma didn't even know she had a dog before a black cloud started sniffing her leg in the night. She got so scared she almost killed Grandpa. :D He was like a brother to me, we danced together and I taught him tricks and cleaned his coat. He had his own bathtub outside. Only recently, 13 years after his death, I was talking about him and it hit me -- I can Google a dreadlocked dog on the internet. I saw the photos and literally cried for so long. We always thought we had a mixed-breed dog and that we won't see another one like that. I'm biased but he was certainly a cutie, even compared to his own breed. To think that he almost ended up in a dumpster! I would love to have a Puli someday when I have a house of my own.

  • its really intriguing to see the similarities between dog coats like this and my own hair! people never realize how high maintenance it is to naturally have highly textured hair. sometimes washing it can take up to 40 minutes, and your arms and fingers get super tired and worn from working over your head that intensely. the same is true with debris getting stuck in the hair and not being able to come out easily, so it just gets washed (multiple times, mind you) with all the rest. and thats even before we talk about the hour or more just combing through it and styling it back into a basic non-fancy maintenance style just to stave off the hair's desire to mat. so much said was true, about not wanting to scrub the hair in the cords due to making them frizz up and tangle more, making a bigger headache for all involved or at worst a fairly impossible endeavor of a mess to fix, and things like how the hair behaves like a sponge and just soaks up whats applied to it, making soaping and degreasing a task. all in all, its heartwarming to see the recognition of having to employ entirely different techniques and methods to deal with a coat of this texture, as well as its correlation to humans like me with similar hair

You have to twist them and separate them into 1" sections as they grow in, their hair does "naturally cord" but you have to set the size and spacing as it grows or else you'll end up with monster sized ones that pull and bruise the dogs skin, or tiny ones that rip out easily and then the dog has nasty bald spots and broken ends. • Rosy's hair looks just like mine. Dark brown/black throughout with naturally brown tips (I think the sun bleached mine) and grey wiry hairs that won't really integrate with the loc.

  • I did know that one can cord poodles, but I never understood why one would want to.

    @wendymoyer782@wendymoyer7827 ай бұрын
    • Why would they want to? Because aesthetic, never because of the dog's comfort.

    • Prolly to avoid matting

      @ElephantseatShorts@ElephantseatShorts7 ай бұрын
    • I guess for if the owner wants a longer coat. Poodles need to be shaved short quite regularly to prevent matting and the need for extensive daily brushing. Cords from what I can tell only need to be pulled apart instead of brushed, and they can get quite long.
