If you are interested in adopting Snuffleupagus: niagaraspca.com/
Omg he's available!
I would sooo buy him if I didn’t already have two :,) I hope he gets a good home with a loving owner like he deserves
They used his "After" pictures under his profile and shortened his name to "Snuffy" they identified him as a Terrier Mix. The Adorb Scale on this dog was off the charts cute. He should be adopted by tomorrow morning.
They should have kept Mr. Snuffleupagus, instead of Mr Snuffy. He looks so cute. Wish i lived closer-i would definitely adopt him.
it's really a shame that they only have his after pictures, i hope the new owner is fully informed of his history and his coat needs.
We're very pleased to announce that our "Snuffy" has found his forever home just in time for the holidays! We wish him and his new family all the best!
yay, so happy for him
I picked a good day to find this video! Amazing news, love a success story

Great News the New owner shall Share Videos of this big sweetheart
considering he’s probably never been groomed he behaved very well
Seems more like he may have been groomed before but his previous owners stopped keeping up with it a long time ago. He wasn't phased by much of the grooming process.
he seems smart. he figured out it wasnt gonna hurt him, even though he didnt like it all.
Also tells us that even though his owners overfed and neglected his fur upkeep, they treated him nicely and socialized him, since he didn't act skittish at all in this strange situation with all the noises and being handled by a complete stranger.
@@eva-w yea 100000%
I think I'm with her on elderly owners who just didn't know better or stopped being able to handle as much as they could have when they first got him. He was clearly loved, just not well cared for.
He wagged his tail almost every time he was told he was a good boy. ☺️
I noticed that too ❤
I feel like he was loved but neglected. They overfed him because they equated it with love but were unable or unaware of how to maintain him in a grooming capacity. He's very sweet.
Probably fed him people food.
seems like maybe an old couple had him?
@@TheMistOfThePastI thought maybe a family with younger kids and the parents just fed him what they thought was a good amount and they maybe didn’t have time to take care of his coat!
he was neglected, why would he have poop on his bum then, flees and very smelly.
And felt him crap dog food and way too many food scraps I'm certain.
16:11 the way he got uncomfortable and instead of biting he licked you 😭 he’s such a polite boy
thats another way for a dog to release stress is licking.
Protest licks. 😊
that's how my dog reacts too lol he always looks like he's going to bite but he licks instead. he haaaates having his front paws touched. i have to give my dogs cbd oil to trim their nails. 💀
Yeah he was just communicating really, just saying, hey lady, take it easy there.
BRO IS A GENTLEMAN
I love how even though he started to panic with both the water and the blow dryer, we could actually SEE the moment he decided "Oh, actually - this is quite nice. Nevermind. Cancel panic." 😂
😊
😊
Yep, you could definitely see him settling in to the blow dryer like, "ahh, this is warm and it feels good!"
My Chloe does what I call pre-yiping. I think I'm not going to like this. Wait. I do like this! Yipes retracted.
😂 "cancel panic"
12:16 “that was ambitious of you” had me lol. Incredible. This girl is awesome

I thought I was going to see a dog grooming and got a sheep sheering.
You could use this video for the adoption. Seeing how good of a temperament he had during his probably first ever groom. He's got the patience of a saint.
That is a great suggestion. 😀
Agreed!

As of November 3rd, "Snuffy" is still listed as available for adoption on the website of the Niagara SPCA. I'd adopt him if I could but I'm in no position to take care of another dog: if you're in the same way, please consider making a donation to the shelter so that they can continue their mission of rescuing and finding safe, loving "fur-ever" homes for Snuffy and so many dogs (and cats!) like him.

So HAPPY to read from the SPCA he was adopted a month ago! ❤ I hope it's working out very well. He seemed to be an absolute sweetheart of a dog. 🐩
He wagged his tail whenever you said “good boy”, thus confirming it! Great job!
Absolutely the bestest boy!
I noticed that too❤ he is absolutely adorable! I hope he finds his forever home soon and parents who love him just the way he is.
As old people myself, I can attest you are well able & expect to go a while longer until some day you can’t anymore. I suspect somebody got a companion thinking they were good for the dogs lifetime - but a fall or illness or grief came crashing in and a well loved companion was very much needed but the person could no longer do the care. He’s been loved & socialized at the least. I love big dogs, could use one that is strong enough to help me stand but I only have a mini doxie and a chihuahua because I can care for them -so far. Life is what it is, I’m glad he came into rescue but sad not mad that he had to.
Well said! Agree with you completely.
I think you may be correct. The animal may be overfed (as stated a dozen times, unnecessary) but we never know the story behind the family. Bless you.
@@BlackWidow00741why do you think it was unnecessary to state he is overweight. it's a huge problem for dogs.
@@YouMom42069they're saying too many are stating the obvious that he's overfed
@@ShadowSkyX I feel like she should of said it more
He's still available on their website, under the name "Snuffy." Poor big fella. They've got a lot of dogs in the shelter - unusual for Canadian shelters. They're all large dogs. Those can be harder to re-home. It would be nice if the Niagara SPCA linked to this video so potential adopters could see how well-behaved he is.
All I can say is: He is a very well-behaved boy who loves attention, see how being called a good boy would get him excited?, who now having been tidied up is an adorable little chonker who has likely given his new family a lovely experience.
"That was ambitious of you" us such an under-rated quote from Vanessa today lol
For real lol that made me laugh 😂
The way she said it cracked me up lol
For such a big lump, he's actually a pretty intelligent dog it seems. He was trying to remove his headband, until he heard the noise of the dryer, then I think he realised why you put it on him and he stopped trying to take it off and just chilled sitting with it on letting you dry him for the most part.
Well, he is part poodle, they _consistently rank_ as one of, _if not the,_ most intelligent dogs in the world.
How is his size related to his intelligence?
@@henrikw377 It was more about his mannerism, and how their size affects that. Some larger Dogs appear to "loaf" about, which may sugest low interlect, but it's actually their size making them behave in such a way. The wording "big lump" wasn't refering soley to his size, but his whole demeanour.
@@henrikw377😂😂😂
Why is he panting?
The plus-sized model comment cracked me up!! He's got an adorable face!! And I second your paws comment. My old rottie didn't like her paws touched and would whine like that constantly for no reason. I just assumed she was dramatic. 😂
that transformation was incredible. He didn't even look like a dog at the start, he looked more like an animatronic dog.
If he was an old school human, he could easily be described as a portly, English gentleman . He " stayed calm " and allowed you " to carry on " on his behalf. Brilliant!
Aw, a cute “stiff upper lip” type chap! You’re so right!
Lol well put 😂
It was quite gracious of him
Exactly. But showed her he could [insert plucky English accent] "bloody well" remove the Happy Hoody if he wanted to . . . oh, yes. :)
Portly lol! I love that!!
By what you told on this video, it does seem like he was the pet of an elderly owner. It’s not unusual for them to get overweight, since the owners can’t take them on regular walks and love giving them treats. When these owner get too old or pass away the pets tend to end up in shelters. Lovely to see the care you gave him, and how dashing he looks now! For sure he will get a new loving family in no time. 😊
I got the same vibe. It's also very common that elders with memory issues overfeed their dogs because they forget that they already have and keep refilling the bowl.
Yeah, especially with his temperament, he really seems like he just had an elderly owner. Very sad they kept him so long when they couldn’t take care of him, but I understand it’s hard to give away a beloved pet, especially if they lived alone.
I’m having that problem. I have 2 large (doodle)and 23:38 one small dog and Im too tired to walk them. I can’t bear to give them up - I wouldn’t want to go on living. They aren’t fat and the doodle does get groomed but I am a little nervous about the future. I understand the plight
@@deborahbraman4667 Put out a call to see if anyone local is interested in walking them for you. Facebook usually has local area groups. He is similar to my rescue dog, Mountain. He was an obese stray. I adopted him after he sat at the shelter for 5 weeks without being reclaimed. He's about 10 years old. I call him my walking ottoman. 🤣 He was 75 pounds and is 64.4 pounds now. He's still quite wide. Vet wants him 60 pounds and then reassess to decide what his ultimate goal needs to be. If my old guy Mountain can lose it, this cutie Snuffalupagus can do it too! He's absolutely adorable.
We adopted a 9 year old English Lab/Mastiff mix in May 2016. When we adopted him, he weighed 115 lbs., down from 119. Poor baby couldn't even hike his leg. By August, he was down to 80 lbs. This is a dog who never met a meal he didn't like, and ate every meal as though it were his last.
Great job on your dog! Every ounce they lost they gain in quality of life and longer lasting friendship.
For an old man I’m really proud of his weight loss! You’re an excellent owner and I’m sure he feels great with those nearly 11 lbs off!
Thank you for saving your sweet dog!!

Mr. Snuffleupagus has such a fitting name, because he definitely looks like the animal sidekick to a group of plucky children in a 80's adventure movie.

Yeah! That is a very terrier face

I guesstimate there's some airedale in there somewhere.
What an amazing transformation. No matter how bad a mood I'm in, I feel better watching your videos -- they're very calming for some reason, just watching you working with the dogs and getting them feeling so much better.
Aww poor guy. Its like watching a sheep being sheared his coat is so matted. Poor big guy.
Such a well-behaved, sweet chunky fluff. Hard to believe, this was his first groom. His previous owners obviously trained him well, but showed their love by giving him to many treats, poor thing. Also, loved the causal way he just slipped off the Happy Hoodie, as if to say: "Yeah, thanks, but no thanks." Hopefully, he'll be adopted soon by a family who takes him for long walks and plays around, so he can lose these lovehandles
Let's not forget obesity is a disease, diseases weaken you. That's why he may appear calm. He's too weak and too exhausted to react. It's a somewhat common method to overfeed or underfeed energetic, hyperactive or reactive dogs to weaken them and make them calmer. I'm sure the behavoiral issues will show up eventually - especially once he looses that weight.
@@plsstop7242 It's not a behavorial issue to be energetic, thats just normal dog behavior. They're literally meant to be out running around in packs.
💥💥 When you oil your blade, turn it to the side and pointing down. OIL exactly where the blades are agitating on each side. Forever Barber, believe me your blades will Thank you. ❤❤
@@Adierit I'm pretty sure the person you wrote to didn't mean that an energetic dog is a behavioral issue. They meant that behavioral issues that *may* be there, will come forward once he's healthy again and have the amount of energy a dog with a healthy weight has. But he may not have any problem behaviors at all, he might just be in dire need of some house training and getting used to long walks.
@@plsstop7242LOL! Speak for yourself.
He seems very intelligent. Quickly adjusted to the shower after initial fright, wasn't scared of the happy hoody yet took precise, immediate action to be rid of it, and held his head completely still under your razor when you were working around his head. Overall as smart as he is well-tempered. Great dog (or at least he held his head still the first time if not the second time LOL)
Glad to see him running around outside briefly at the end. I'm sure the haircut was draining for him, but he needed it!
Unrecognizable from his “before” photo. I would’ve thought it was a completely different dog-just wow.

He's just looking around like "wow! I can see! This place is a mess!" He went from a chunky mop to an actual dog, and such a sweet boy!
It's always funny when dogs with bangs get them trimmed. You really can see them excited to be seeing.
He seems fairly well socialized and well mannered! Also seems intelligent. Every time you introduce him to something new, he does seem initially startled, but he settles down as soon as he understands what's happening as long as it's not actively causing him physical discomfort.

Oh, that’s not far from my neck of the woods! I volunteer at the SPCA in the city of Buffalo & I’m always shocked at how many beautiful, loving, loyal dogs & cats that are discarded like trash, for whatever reason. I’ve been volunteering at shelters since right out of HS, but it still amazes me how awful some people can be. We had someone surrender their 10 year old shepherd not too long ago…..then had the audacity to request an adoption form for a puppy. Thankfully that beautiful boy wasn’t with us long bc another volunteer’s brother gave him a forever home so he could live out his senior years with lots of love & in peace ❤

Snuffy looks like he's a Bouvier des Flanders mix.. Typical double coat issues when mixed with a Labrador. No mistaking that hair pattern.. 💛Wish I was closer, I'd SO adopt him!!!!
For being so uncomfortable, he's so good-natured and sweet. That tail wagging as he enters the bathtub - LOL
His coat doesn’t seem like any doodle….no curls, no softness. It almost seemed kind of wirey, like many terriers, even though his body is more like a Lab, though that tail doesn’t look like that of a Lab. My own Aussies aren’t fans of getting their nails or Grinch Feet trimmed; they will tap dance like this tickles.
OMG! You are marvelous in grooming that neglected dog. It's good that this dog did not bite you. He made a noise of complaints but he looks like a good dog. Thank you so much for sharing your vlogs. I am learning how to cut the dog hairs from you. Take care and God bless. You got a very hard job. It's not for everyone's job to groom a dog. It takes a lot of patience and passion to care and love animals. The dog can sense it if he is being taken care of very gently. More power to you.❤
I wish I could adopt him. He seems like a good, innocent soul.
He was a very good dog! Apart from being an extremely kind thing to do, this is genius as it shows potential adopters the dog's temperament in a highly stressful situation. I would adopt Snuffy in a heartbeat! As an aside, I cannot believe how brave, fast and precise you are when doing the eye area. I wouldn't be able to get anything done out of fear of cutting them. You're the best.
I get real nervous about toe nail trims. I think the dog can sense it and freaks out?
@mariahgrimes207 they definitely can. Take the attitude of "Fake it till you make it" and learn to be brave together. There are lots of really good tutorials for nail trimming. Or you can even teach him to accept a nail file or a dremel if clippers make you nervous. If you decide to use clippers, make sure they're the scissor type and not the guillotine type. Guillotine nail clippers can crush the nail to cut it instead of cutting right through cleanly so it could actually be hurting his quicks even if you don't accidentally cut the quick. Source: I've been a dog groomer for 6 years
I always get a little nervous watching her trim around the ears even and I imagine it's quite easy to feel where the ear ends and the fur begins. Great point about showing the dog's temperament. I was thinking already it would be good for adopters to see the video to know what the coat situation will be like but it is a great insight into his behaviour as well.
We can see when he gets onboard with the groom. It's in the shower, just like you said, and when you're washing his face, he's like, "This is pretty nice!" I don't care why he got the way he did. Someone surrendered him to help him, and I hope he gets the forever home he deserves. Some family is going to luck out with this boi!
Very much agreed. Life conditions can change on a dime, like health, but he was obviously loved.
Right? He just realized, “oh, oh, i can actually feel that on my skin, holy crap”

He is precious, I would guess Pyredoodle.
Comfortability with paws being touched is something that usually has to be taught from a very young age, and even if you teach them to tolerate it you can’t really teach them to like it. Most rescues especially don’t like their paws being touched because they aren’t used to it. I was really surprised by how calm and well behaved he was❤️
Most dogs don't like having their paws touched. I think it's more that it tickles than that it hurts.
@russlehman2070 Exactly ! It’s probably also got to do with it being a source of stability/balance for them

It's pagan to the Core! You really need to read Scriptures honey and Follow Jesus Christ our Lord and not some invented so called saints!! Even the disciples of Jesus were never called saints!!
And at least one cat owner, mama of three. Thanks, Vanessa! It was lovely to see this doggie clean. He's such a sweetheart.
@@janine-Saved-By-Grace-Alone Considering the task and the risks she inherits, I think she is very venerable to devote oneself to the well being of dogs. I personally witnessed her turning a horde of hellish beasts plagued by the owners' negligence into Disney characters. It's all documented and freely available to the catholic church for scrutiny. I'm supporting her canonization.
@@DelphiAmnestied God will NOT be mocked so remember that! Remember also that Scriptures say that in these end of days mockers will increase! Prophecies being fulfilled through people like you! Have you no fear of God!!
@@janine-Saved-By-Grace-AloneBut I think the Lord understands humour too? St Francis of Assisi ‘ Brother Sun, Sister Moon’ ? Especially as this lovely young lady follows ‘ do unto the least of them’ as well? People will be judged by the way they treat their animals….she will be a star 🌟
He looks adorable! Good job & what a sweet dog. So glad to hear that he's found his furever home.
November 19th, Snuffy is still listed for adoption on the website - I hope he's adopted soon, he's so adorable 💖
I wonder if we could send him "fan" mail that they could stick on his cage for people to see? Cute little letters from people who saw him on KZhead and adored him? I live in a tiny apartment with a cat, or I would adopt him right away. He will be such an amazing dog for someone's family. ❤
that's an awesome idea actually @@wildflower1397
Sad that he still hasn't been adopted. He really is a good boy.
which breed tho?
*THIS SWEET MAN IS STILL UP FOR ADOPTION!* He has an amazing temperament and would be great for younger teens who will walk him and doggy parents who will brush him daily❤
I will never understand why anyone would neglect such a beautiful boy like Mr. Snuffleupagus. I hope he gets the best forever home.
Not knowing is what I assume for most of these older dogs, it seems very likely he was owned by an older person
My guess is his owner died.
With a dog that thick- and long-haired, and that large, it’s very demanding physically and/or financially to maintain his fur in good shape. Some people are not able to do it even though they love the dog.
I think it’s important to give people some grace and assume, since this was an owner surrender, that something terrible must have forced them to give up this dog. We don’t know if it was a sudden struggler with money, a debilitating illness, depression… could be a lot of things that made it get this bad. I had to rehome my dog once when my living siituation became untenable, and it was one of the hardest-if not THE hardest--things I’ve ever had to do.
Mental health issues? Sudden disability issue? Maybe he was given as a pup to an older person and as he grew they couldn't continue to groom him? Livestock guardian dog that got loose and lost? I can think of many reasons how he could have gotten that way and none of them are "intentionally neglected". 😢 I hope and pray that he's able to be adopted by someone who is physically, mentally and emotionally prepared to consistently groom him. 😢❤🙏🏻
The fit is TEMPER, not pain. Also, he’s just over it, but persistence was needed. He really IS a cutie!!!
He is a good boy. Will make a wonderful addition for his new family.
It was obvious that Mr. Snuffleupagus loved being called a good boy, his tail wagged everytime she said it 🙂
i love how you talk to him like he's a favorite cousin , lovingly busting his chops while getting him ready for 'the prom'.
wow without the fur, you can he is a really solid boy
What a cute face! He's such a sweet little boy!
