I love owner reaction
@girlwiththedogs212, Vanessa, how does a de-shedding shampoo work to loosen the hair like that? That blow-out was amazing!
AMAZING ALL of it!! ❤
The hair just blows off her u didn’t even start brushing
I can tell she isn’t neglected or abused- she was sweet and calm and very happy and affectionate to you and her owner. No signs of being malnourished or abused…she’s just living her life running around outside! What a sweet sweet girl! I love her!
You can tell she’s used to bathing. Her owners probably groomed her until the fur got out of control, which is not uncommon for double coated dogs. The typical dog owner doesn’t possess the products that Vanessa has.
Please do keep in mind, she is a farm dog as stated in the video
Beautiful dog and well mannered.
❤
When I was a kid, we lived on a large property, and our rough collie lived her best life running around that place. If she had a bath, within half an hour her hair would be full of grass seeds, hay, cow poop and mud, and her face would be as happy as could be lol
There is nothing like the focus of a well behaved herding dog. Truly. She was so attentive to you throughout this.
I noticed the same thing. Focus.
She looks part bison
Ive had rottweillers for 38 years. A lot of people dont realise that rottweilers are cattle herding dogs. My current boy doesnt have cows to herd so instead he focuses like a lazer on tennis balls. He seems to think it is important to round yp every tennis ball he sees. He can get three in his mouth, although it always worries me when he does that. But if i have a tennis ball in my hand i can get him to do pretty much anything. His focus wont move and he’ll ignore everything, even other dogs. I always say to people who dont have a lot of experience with dogs, ‘find their prime motivator, and use that’ Sometimes people compliment me because i can walk my rottweiller without a leash and he doesnt leave my side (unless i tell him to). What people dont realise is that its because i have a tennis ball in my pocket (i have a squeaky toy in the other but thats not his dominant motivator. It does get his attention though. But ball trumps squeaky toy every time).
To be fair. King Shepherds had the German Shepherd "drive" and "edge" bred out of them. King Shepherds are not working dogs and were bred to be more relaxed and calm
@@SeamHead33Sounds amazing, TBH. I can't believe I've never heard of them.
The excitement the dog had when she saw her owner shows that she is 100% not being abused or neglected She is clearly loved and taken care of
It’s still neglect to let her hair and or skin get like this unfortunately

@@nyancatnyangirl I Agree with you. Some of these ppl obviously haven't experienced anything from another point of view.
@@little_swan07 It's possible to love an animal but still neglect it, even if you do so unintentionally. I've worked with rescued dogs and cats and many of them suffered 'abuse through kindness' which is a term for when an owner thinks they are spoiling an animal or treating it well but they are actually doing it a lot of damage. It's unintentional, and it doesn't mean they don't love the animal. They do. But no matter whether it's purposeful or not, their treatment of the animal in question still causes a lot of harm and suffering. :(

For an outside working dog I am FLABBERGASTED at how well behaved she was. So calm & no outburst! She turned out beautifully ‼️‼️Job well done by groomer & dog 👵🏻👩🌾❣️
King Shepherds tend to be calmer than GSDs
She probably felt much better getting it done. I've never had a double-coated dog go this long between grooming, but even after brushing out the shed hair on a regular basis, I could tell she loved the "lighter" feel. Kinda like when I could finally go to my own hair salon after months and months of Covid lockdown and cut off some of the excess weight 😂

@lancashirelass1998 Extremely shameful and full of excuses. Imagine not bathing, grooming in ten years, pathetic. Outside dogs need baths as well, not every ten years. If she did this often the dog wouldn't been stressed, and gone through this long ordeal. The dog is Not use to being groomed. Ten shampoos, one for every year she has not been groomed. Poor dog, I feel sorry for this beautiful creature. Everybody don't need dogs.
One of the easiest ways to tell that the dog was not abused, is how happy she was, as she saw her owner for the first time after the groom
It’s so gratifying to see all the old fur come out in the blow drying and fun to see the dog enjoying it. Must feel so good to get rid of all the mats and dirt and clogged undercoat.
Her spine is so straight and minimally slanted down the back end like you see in other GSD’s. She gets great exercise and was definitely well-bred.
I think the difference is that she's a King Shepherd which is a German shepherd/Alaskan Malamute and other herding/sledding dog mixes (they vary per breeders I believe) so it's not a pure German shepherd. Definitely agree about the importance of a straight back
@@amandasnider2644yes...as they are abused more often...made to perform at standards that harm there spines, legs and body 😢😢😢😢
please educate yourself before you comment. you are thinking about badly bred gsds. well bred still have some angulation in the back. 'straight-backed' german shepherds are not well bred dogs, and neither are overly 'sloped' back, but they definitely should NOT have a straight back.
@zergiew There are breeders that specifically breed their German shepherds to have straight healthy backs. Vanessa (the groomer in the video) has a young all black German shepherd named Lupa whom is one of these dogs. Her breeder specifically breeds black German shepherds whom are smaller in size and straight Backed and ideal for service dog work. A sloped back has become a part of the breed only due to being introduced into the kennel clubs for dog showing. In reality a sloped back has no practical benefit for working/herding dogs which is what German Shepherds were invented for.
@@amandasnider2644 That's not correct. German shepherds have always had angled backs. they're supposed to be like that as it helps with better movement. You may be able to see some better than others depending on the stack of the dog. Any breeder breeding straight backs are unethical. Vanessa made a video on straight backs and took it down because it was filled with an insane amount of incorrect info and the community told her so. Please go do some more research within the breed before spreading false information on them.

The less said about “show lines” German Shepherd’s the better. The U.K. and US kennel clubs need to change the standard back to being this healthy working lines German Shepherd size/shape with healthy rear hips/spine.
@Jonathan_Doe_ Uh, all I meant was that she looks as well-groomed as a show dog would be. Rather than dirty like a typical farm dog.
@@Jonathan_Doe_ I fully agree, however Smoochie is a King Shepherd. The breed isn't recognized by the AKC, so there is no real breed standard. They are huge, though. Females average between 60-80lbs, while males average between 90-130lbs. The size alone comes with the usual hip and elbow dysplasia, though individuals who suffer from it are in the minority.

This is a great example of why I love shepherds. She is very much not enjoying the bath, but she's smart enough to understand you're trying to help her.

Such a well behaved dog, and looking so cute with the hesitant, concerned look
She’s so smart! She only shook herself at 10:22 when the groomer said the bath was over! And the little smile after!! :3 Such a smart girl.
That is a coincidence. She cannot understand what she said. Dogs can pick up on some words, but in this case there is simply no reason to believe it was ever taught that sentence.
@@FreshToast-qm8ki dogs understand more than you think, they are excellent on picking up tone and physical queues, which is probably what happened here. Stepping back and using an excited tone probably gave her all the communication she needed to understand her bath was finished. moreover, don't most owners teach their dogs the concept of done/over/no more? seems highly likely that she would be taught such phrases.

Beautiful an so sweet. I miss ny shepherds i had over the years. My sweet Hero left me last August. Theres nothing that can do your heart in the pet family like a sweet, loyal, best friend. A Shepherd.
My mother (Gretchen) has a lot of German ancestry but we also have relatives from Estonia on her side of the family. She named one of our dogs Luba, which in Estonia is "permission" or "authority" but also kind of like Lieba in German which means "beloved". She was our beloved guard dog. She was a mid size (35-45) pounds with curly white haired, likely a mutt. We adopted her as a stray back 35 years ago. She was a decent farm dog overall and but was the smartest dog we had for learning tricks. She knew at least 30 tricks and did them well. She was the only inside/outside dog we had. The others were all outside. We did have a female German Shepard that was an incredible farm dog, but would never learn tricks and we did not care. She could herd or drag a pig back 5 miles if needed or guard an open gate so the chickens would not get out and she never killed an animal. We never trained her. She figured this all out on her own.
It's unbelievable how much fur came off Princess Smoochie! And she still has lots left. She is so well behaved, and looked like she was actually enjoying the blow dryer at some points. She's a gorgeous dog, especially after her groom.

yeah I was thinking that she seemed to love when she used the dryer on her chest area... but maybe she got a little impatient with how long it took.. dunno if its just me but she seemed a bit snappish by the end xD
she is hysterical and so sweet. the way she was loving that dryer 😂😂
She was leaning into it at one point and you could practically hear her going Ohhhhh yeahhhh
She was beautiful even before you got started, but afterwards she looked like a champion show dog. And such a sweetheart to boot. Now I’m really missing my sheltie. Great job!
It must feel so great to pet such a fluffy dog. I love how she was too gentle to show you her teeth, but kept opening her mouth to warn you she does have them. Such sweetheart ❤
It must feel sooooo good getting all of those mats out and all that loose fur brushed out! Love the owners reaction. Great job, Vanessa!
Owner should be jailed. 10 years not brushing a shepherd (or any dog with a double coat) should be a felony.
Yeah, seeing as how she spends more time bleaching and dying her hair instead of her animal - it was def eye opening. If she can’t afford to maintain its health, it’s abuse. She could start by sacrificing her own hair care. Smoothies cleanliness was disgusting and the amount hair that came off was clear neglect.
Hurricane Smoochie.
@@NoNo_IStay You have terrible listening comrpehension. It is stated clearly in the beginning of the video that this is the first *professional* groom in 10 years. She was groomed by her owner, but it was difficult since the dog didn't like to be brushed and howled in the shower. Farm dogs get dirty within five minutes of getting clean, and if you ever handled a long haired double coated dog, you'd know they start compacting and matting just by sitting down sometimes. Even with shorter haired double coated dogs this is present too, though to a lesser extent.
@@PaladinDansesGirlfriendI'll repeat what I said for the other guy, but you both need to work on your listening comprehension. This is Smoochie's (not "Smoothie") first *professional* groom. She was groomed at home, but she didn't like the brush and , and howled in the shower. But she was groomed. German shepherds were bred to herd sheep. The long coat is to keep them warm while outside and protect them from the elements. Their fur will get matted and compacted even if you do maintain a grooming routine, especially since for some long haired double coated dogs compacting already occurs when they sit down. Obviously her fur was maintained, proven by most of it was just compacting not matting, but if your dog spends most of its time outside working, it will be an uphill battle. She was well tended to, even if she did not look too pretty. But she is not malnourished and obviously well treated and trained from her behaviour and how she loves her owner.
I still will insist dogs, especially GSDs, are very, very good at reading a person's intentions. This dog knew you were going to help her, groom her and talk nice with her. She was all for it. Plus, being a farm dog, she must know water won't hurt her. I was so amazed though at her reaction to the blower. No reaction at all... except one point where she was clearly enjoying it. Great job!
She is probably used to hearing very loud farm machinery. The blow dryer might not scare her.
What a sweet girl! You can tell she's suuuper out of her element and she's being so calm and collected.
She’s so beautiful. The red that was hiding under her coat is stunning
I love how she actually just sat there for you and then also she kept doing that head tilt❤
Exactly! My heart can't take this cuteness 🥰
The head tilts slay me 🥰
@@AuntCathyPooh Likely seeing herself in the camera lens or similar. But yes, very sweet.
Wow, what an amazingly well-behaved dog. It's hard to believe it hasn't gone through this process of being handled by a stranger for hours on a regular basis. So calm and happy-looking.
Great comment. I noticed the same thing.
21:59 beautiful job
Your video popped into my feed. I am so glad. Watching you groom that beautiful dog was very satisfying. You did amazing work!
She looks like a show dog! Beautiful job! What a lovely natured doggo
I feel the fact that she just had compacted fur after 10 years is a testament to how loved and well taken care of she is at home. You really did these owners a huge favor helping them out! It can't be easy having a farm dog with THAT much fur!
We have a Great Pyrenees who is indoor/outdoor (mostly out). I brush her every two weeks at a minimum. It's good bonding time, and it prevents her from becoming a matted mess. Maybe this family could incorporate something similar into their routine. This beautiful girl was so well-behaved, and she obviously knew she could trust you. You are so gentle and kind. Fabulous job. She's gorgeous, and you can tell that she feels so much better! Thanks for the care you took with her. Love and light. ❤
@@LoryConrad I'm sure the owners do bathe and brush the dog, they said so. And she would have been unable to move if she hadn't been brushed in ten years. Only the current coat needed blowing out.
@@barbaramcmillan3835 You are absolutely correct! I didn't mean to come off as snarky or "holier than thou." Thank you for calling me out on this one. 💜
@@LoryConrad I know that, I wasn't criticising your comment.Too much of that going on already 😀
When you told her she was going to feel amazing after that, she looked at you with such affection. Totally in love.

This woman saved the dogs life, possibly. I would be grateful too.
Risk of heat stroke was cut by 70%
Smoochie was so proud of her new haircut ❤🐕🦺❤
She is absolutely beautiful!!! You did an A+++++ job of grooming her I bet she's going to sleep well tonight. You showed so much love and patience while washing/drying/brushing her out. Which kept her so calm and de-stressed. I'll enjoy watching your videos in the future. This so reminded me of my precious Zora RIP.
Although she's a farm dog, she's really used to being spoken to and loved. Great job Vanessa! I agree, I think you made Smoochie feel like a princess!
You were correct. Smoochie's transformation is the best so far! And her behavior and temperament were the icing on the cake. Thank you and Smoochie for sharing the experience
She had so much fur and was such a good girl! Love her !
Absolutely incredible, thank you for taking the time, care and showing her so much love. I love your videos thank you for sharing them with us. ❤
My 13 years german shepherd just died after a stroke. It was painful and in the same time sweet to see this. She was a sweet giant full of love like this one.Hugs to Princess and you for this video! She seemed sooo happy when she was brushed at the end!
Sending you some hugs ❤ Sorry for your loss. I know how you are feeling right now. 😢 We have a saying here; in English it would be something like “Don’t cry, because it is over. Smile, because it was wonderful.” ❤
Sorry, but not about you or your dog
@@user-rb1yf4he9qnot sure you understood my comment.. or if you read it in its entirety …but that’s ok.
@@delia7721thank you so much! ❤ this video just reminded me so much about her. I am watching this video again and again .
So sorry for your loss. It's so hard, those goodbyes.
At I loved how at 12:30 she was really leaning into the blow dryer, you can tells she was really enjoying feeling the air on her skin.
Same thoughts
It was a very good scratching of a long awaiting itch.😊❤
She looks absolutely beautiful! I think she was smart enough to know that she would not only feel fantastic but that her mama would be elated at the results. Of course! She has a wonderfully patient and caring groomer!🙂
Its so evident that you absolutely love dogs and what you do 🩷
