Brothers Buy An Abandoned House In Portugal 18 Months Start To Finish Timelapse

My brother, Andrew and I bought an old abandoned house in Portugal and spent the next 18 months, along with my wife Cristina and our good friend Detlev, renovating it back to new.
Not going to lie, it was tough, but we got there.
Watch the transformation through my eyes as we went full steam at taking on tasks well out of our comfort zones.
This is a story of perseverance and determination, that I am incredibly proud of our achievement.
My brother has his own KZhead channel: / @blondguy where you can see his side of the renovation.
Although we did many jobs together, we also did jobs on our own. This is my version of The village house renovation.
Thanks for watching and if you enjoyed, please consider subscribing. This goes a long way in enabling us to continue the journey.

  • Thanks for the wonderful comments. There seems to be a reoccurring opinion from a few people that the house should have been demolished and rebuilt. The simple answer is, you can’t. Rules and regulations apply. Hope that clears that up.

    • Strange that the rules would prevent from knocking down the house and rebuilding from scratch. It seems a ridiculous rule. Nevertheless, a job well done …and what was the cost? BTW great camera work and music is good too!

  • This demonstrates what skill goes into building. I think people often view construction work as fairly menial labor. This video perfectly illustrates that builders are truly craftsmen and artisans!

    • It’s very easy to totally mess up, waste materials and labour, as well as break expensive tools if someone doesn’t know the ropes. But an experienced craftsman can achieve miracles - as seen in the video 👍🏻🤩

    • Yes, exactly. I have had to work with a few clowns over the years who came into renovation from a non trade background, but thought they knew it all, with their ‘uni’ degree. You can’t be a dimwit and build like these guys.

    • Its not like they carved statues and marble pillars. Construction is as menial labor as it gets. Hard and backbraking work, nothing else.

I can truly appreciate all the work that went into this. Not to mention the broad spectrum of talent held by your small team of folks doing work that would usually involve a small army of specialized tradesmen. Structural, roofing, plumbing, electrical, masonry, tile, counter tops, cabinetry, windows, sheet rock, painting, insulation and probably a few things I missed. Job well done to your team of men and women. It is something to truly be proud of. Had someone shown me this job at the start, I would have run away screaming! 🙂

I’ve collected and sold antiques over the years and the whole idea is to preserve what can never be duplicated or replaced. What a huge project to undertake but so worth the blood, sweat and tears and in Portugal! I cannot wait to see more.

    @suescherdel6278@suescherdel62783 ай бұрын
    • Tbh, it is for for a couple of reasons people would level it. Cost is one of them. A lot of times it is cheaper and simpler to start again, two is the layout not really working and 3 is that the bricks are old so structure problems can happen in the future because the brick is just decaying. Making it cost more in the future. Not saying it is a bad idea to renovate but sometimes stuff can't be saved or fixed.

      @eeliejun@eeliejun3 ай бұрын
    • At the beginning, I thought it looked like the inside was in much better shape than the outside suggested. But I can see that it would be cheaper to tear it down and build new, if the regulations allowed it. But to me, the entire reason to do this is to keep the old charm that can be saved. And of course, you want the home to blend in with the surrounding homes on the outside at least.

      @latebloomerabroad@latebloomerabroad3 ай бұрын

Beyond that, the vision and the unending energetic work and willingness to go big is mind-boggling. I never thought I'd see somebody who would say to themselves, " let's renovate this house and tuen it upside down entirely, one room at a time.". You took down the roofs, you took up the floors, you replaced the beams, you put down new floors, you took down walls.... It just didn't seem to end. I lost faith in your vision when the courtyard was an absolute disaster. But just before you put up the words "We have a plan ", on the screen, I decided to trust you a little bit longer. And by the way you're rendering was absolutely beautiful. 💯🏆🎶🎶🎶Lovely results. Outstanding. 👏👏👏

Oh. go get the other wire and watch tv for an hour. No need to hurry. Where was I? Go to the pub and tell your friends how hard you been working . Done! Wasn't that easy my dear friend?
