  • I am Hagrid's second person. He was returned to the breeder and I found him on a marketplace ad when he was a year and a half. Hagrid is an amazing dog with a stubborn, food driven personality but he loves car rides and meeting new people. He flops over onto his side when meeting people with the expectation that they will rub his belly. He has slowed down recently but still chases the UPS truck along the fence when he gets the chance. Thanks for seeing him again! I love the videos and appreciate the work you do. He and I don't mind the drive for an amazing groom. This video will be here forever and gives a wonderful example of Hagrid's personality.

    • Yea. I would love one, I just can't deal with the drool. Only two things I can't do with dogs- curly hair/fur like a poodle (mini poodle was my first dog and the grooming is very expensive. They need to go every 4- 6 weeks) and drool. Lol also some of the giant breeds have much lower lifespans. Bernese mountain dogs live about 6- 8 years usually. So short

    • It's been super weird in the GTA, not too far from Niagara, too. Less a case of "not needing to get my winter boots/coat out of storage" and more a case of "What even is snow?" We have some left today, but it's already melted off a lot of places and there's green grass showing. We get mild winters here a fair amount, even moreso than people just 30min north, but every other winter or so I do need to get my actual boots and cold-weather jacket and there's a ton of snow. This year's mostly not dipping below -10°C (when your boogers start to freeze, it's an easy temp sign) with the wind, and we'll easily have winters at -20 or -30 for a few weeks. Nothing like the -40° for 2 months I experienced in Saskatchewan a few years ago, or like the epic winters Montreal would get when I lived there for 10 years. My ears still perk up at the sound of car tires spinning in snow and someone needing a push out if a snow bank 😂 I'd do 3 or 4 every morning on my walk to work then! Now I do maybe 1 a winter. The mild winters were just one of the reasons I moved to TO with my work, but it was not a SMALL reason, and it's been an awesome benefit. I mean, I was here for the ice storm that coated the wires so thick with ice that streetcars couldn't stay connected to power, and we had that massive power failure for about 5 days when the city was teaching people how to make warmers with candles and clay pots and people were running extension cords outside with signs so folk could charge their phones... we're never really safe from the jaws of winter 😂

His temperament is naturally incredibly chill - and he’s been to school, his dad is always bringing him to socialize with other humans and dogs, and into situations where he’s meeting a lot of new experiences. He adores the car rides and attention he gets when going anywhere with his dad. He also chases his friends Bella and Gronk the Saint Bernards up one way and down the other of the pond at his grandparents’ house, so… he can get up and go on his terms 😅

    • @@CertariAhhh, that is so great to hear! Especially about Hagrid being such a good Doggo Ambassador to kids 😊 It makes such a difference if people can be exposed to big dogs in a chill and happy way -- folks who haven't encountered them can be a little extra tense or nervous or downright afraid, and that makes most big dogs sad. They're built to accept -- and give -- ALL the love. And drool. All the drool. We have guide dogs in training all over the city for both socialization and to naturalize things like cars, subways, trains,😅 crosswalks, etc. They often hang out in the underground that connects the banks (and the rest of the city) in summer because it's so hot out and the dogs need a rest, and they usually encourage petting with permission and more for socialization (here, green vest means trainee, red vest means full and on the job service dog). Seeing Very Serious Business folks in expensive suits kneeling on the ground to hug a very happy Golden Retriever never ceases to make me tear up a bit. 🥹

While I'm ready to provide a dream life for a newfie from 20 acres of fenced property, walks in the Grand Tetons national forest, lake weekends during summer, and work from home so we're always together. My concern is an ill timed head whip slinging drool onto potentially hundreds of dollars of merchandise especially during snow where he has to be indoors most of the time. • What a beautiful example of a Newfoundland dog! As a person from Newfoundland, I appreciate when I see a well taken care of dog from my home province. His owner has done everything right with him and it shows from his shiny un-matted coat the lean body and good hips! It’s so easy to let these dogs become overweight and unkempt. Such a disservice to the breed and what they were meant for! Thank you Vanessa for pointing out how well maintained he is. Great groom as usual and wonderful dog Hagrid ❤

  • So happy to see this. A newfoundland that came to my salon every six weeks from the day I started working there, passed away recently. He was 11 and didn't start to slow down until he was about 10. We always attributed his good health to a good diet, being well bread and a show dog in his younger days, and being intact. It's amazing the difference these things can make.

    • Although it's important that they are checked for enlarged prostate as they age. We had an Intact male who had to be neutered when he was 11 or so.

    • they used to look like this during their working days...i don't see the point in kennel club breeding them like the hapsburgs... they can't be happy dogs if they aren't healthy, and able to be dogs for as long as possible. I like what they are doing in northern Europe.
