LOGITECH G915 Keyboard HONEST Review (and Why I'm Staying with MX Keys) - Productivity Tools

This is my honest review of the Logitech G915 Keyboard and why I'm returning it. I'm staying with my MX Keys. I was hoping that the feedback of a mechanical keyboard would allow me to love just using it, but I found a few things that keep me going back to my old MX Keys. #remoteoffice #productivitytools #keyboards #productivity #workfromhome #bluetooth #bestkeyboards

  • If you're confusing the G5 key with CTRL, you can actually assign the CTRL key to G5 which should solve the issue.

    @michaelwinkler6720@michaelwinkler6720 Жыл бұрын
    • This also does not solve the problem since CTRL+C becomes CTRL+X and CTRL+V becomes CTRL+C because of the spacing between keys.

  • Ordered my G915 and then came across this video. Was initially very concerned about the issues you raised as I am using the keyboard for both my gaming computer and my work computer. Keyboard arrived yesterday. Tried it out and glad to see it had no problems connecting to both computers when i toggle between lightspeed (for gaming computer) and bluetooth (for work computer). switching between both setups was almost instant (took around 1 second, not long enough to pose any problems for my regular use case). Today is my second day of use and so far its working out really well. I agree the left control key and G5 button can be easily mispressed but as gamers we generally adapt quite quickly to new layouts so this wasnt a big issue for me. As I am in customer service, I usually will tell my customers I am logging their issues anyway so I don't foresee slight tapping noises to be an issue for them either - And the tactile noise level isnt that bad until it will drive people (over the phone) crazy haha (Its actually quite minimal and not too different from traditional membrane keyboards). And as expected from my G915 tactile, the keys dont repeat that quickly hence so far I haven encountered unintentional repeat key issues when typing long paragraphs of emails. The accuracy is very good. Linear, on the other hand, would have repeat mistyping issues hence I dont use linear for work. Tactile is the perfect balance for sound and accuracy. I used Blackwidow Elite (Tactile, wired) and Blackwidow elite tournament edition (Tactile, wired) prior to my upgrade to G915. The sensation when typing is distinctly different, but the G915 and both Blackwidows feel comfortable and are good to type on. If you have watched other reviews, you would also know that G915 keys are less stable and slightly wobbly - but when typing, you wont feel it at all and its not going to be a problem. I have yet to test it on games, but usually my typing requirements are more demanding than gaming requirements so its unlikely to be a problem for me (I play Mechwarrior Online, an FPS). One thing to note however is, the Ghub software does not allow you to bind individual keys. All keys, including the scroll wheel cannot be binded to anything except G1 through G5 across the 3 memory profiles. And it does not come with as huge a variety of preset key binding options you find in Razer Synapse - You have to program certain functions as macros yourself (Eg Win + Left / Right must be self programmed and binded to G1-G5) - Shouldn't be a problem if you know how to do these since these are fairly easy to do/self learn. These problems can be solved if Ghub gets the necessary patches - But currently Ghub doesn't feature these. So far no regrets and loving it for both work and pleasure. Thought I would post my feedback to reassure people this keyboard is actually quite nice to use and the connectivity issues isnt really thatttt horrible xD

  • Tactile switches are in between linear and clicky. These are also known as brown, red and blue respectively. Clicky gives you both an audible feedback and a tactile bump, tactile only gives you a tactile bump and linear gives you no feedback whatsoever - they go straight down. Linear are the most silent of these three, but really, any mechanical keyboard will make more noise than a membrane keyboard as each key is a physical switch. Generally speaking, tactile or clicky are the best for typing, because of the feedback they give when the key is registered. People tend to make more typos with linear switches (again: due to a lack of feedback), but your mileage may vary. I should also mention that the actuation point for mechanical switches is somewhere halfway. You don't need to bottom them out. I'll probably still do that when I get the G815 (the wired version), but that's more of a personal problem :P . As for possible alternatives to the G915, you could perhaps look at the K840 Mechanical or the K845 Mechanical Illuminated from Logitech or more generally, at DAS Kayboard, Ducky or Leopold. Leopold in particular has some models with material that help dampen the sound of the keys. Edit: since I had written the comment, I have learned of keyboards that can switch between 3 devices. Keychron has keyboards that have that functionality via Bluetooth. The Logitech Pop Keys has that as well, either via BT or via their Bolt USB receiver.

I can type fast with it and I make way less mistakes compared to other keyboards. It’s also great for gaming and makes the experience even better. Overall, I really like using it to type and also to game. I think everyone should try it out, but buy it when it’s on sale :) The clicky sound is pretty satisfying! I want the performance of a true mechanical gaming keyboard, but sometimes struggle with the size of most keyboards that are made for "man-hands". Size matters. I struggle to find the right mouse as well...but am about to try the Razer Mini in hopes that it will have a similar feel to my non-gaming, non-fancy, $12 Logitech mini mouse that I've used for years. Based on the connectivity issues alone, I think I'll go with the Razer Huntsman or similar. We'll see.

That is to say, if you don't use it for a few seconds, it cuts the brightness, which is very annoying for someone who does office work! Is there a way to manage this? or to cancel it via the G HUB software? is there a way to set it up? so that the light doesn't get cut?

  • If the macro keys on the G915 is getting in your way, you can go for the *G915 TKL* which does not have the macro keys on the left and the numberpad on the right, and hence much smaller. Also, linear switches are not at all good for typing; you should probably get the tactile version (clicky version would be very noisy). Personally I use the MX Master 3 mouse and the MX Keys keyboard. MX Keys is not a fun keyboard to type on but it gets the job done.

But then you said, you don't care about the feedback. So linear it is? As far as I know, the linear switches are most comparable to a standard mebrane keyboard, what feel of typing is about. I personally prefer some feedback on the keys, but I'm not too fuzzed about the clicking. Which one should I choose?

But also i use the Keyboard in the evening at my Multimedia PC and so i'm looking for a Keyboard with backlight and decide to buy ...... the MX Keys..... or ??? G915 .... now i use the MX-Keys, but if the Keyboard go into sleepmode, it takes time to wake up and the programmed Keys are working not so well (first Keystroke the use the Factory Setting and after this they do wat you programmed). And from time to time the backlight auto-turn off dosent working properly (Backlight turn on and off every 20sec.).... but this is possible to fix, if you turn off and again turn on the keyboard must cover the daylightsensor for few seconds that is hide into the PowerLED. But, maybe i buy a G915 ....... tho only thing anoying me, is it good to read the letter on the keycaps if the backlight is turn of ? it seems the letter are not so readable like the letter on the MX-Keys. Maybe is better to buy the G915(TKL) in the white version.

I never knew how much I relied on looking at those characters, or how much I actually used them in my everyday work. Even during the day when I have the lights on and I can see those characters, the fact that they're under the primaries instead of above them really throws me off. • MY EXACT ISSUE with these keyboards. Why in the world Logitech inverted them is beyond me. The issue really becomes apparent when using brackets/curly braces and underscore and dash, etc... When you are in dim light, you cannot even see the shifted characters. I bought the G915 (full keyboard) and returned the next day when I had typing problems the previous night trying to remember which numeric key had the ampersand on it. It does not illuminate in the dark, just the number 7. If you need this keyboard for strictly gaming, it is likely not an issue. But if you need it for any sort of productivity it is junk because the key caps are printed incorrectly.

  • One mistake, linear is not between clicky and tactile. Linear is the oposite of clicky and tactile is in the middle. It's like this: Clicky - you can feel and hear it Tactile - you can feel it (kinda) Linear - You can't feel nor hear anything on the actuation.

  • 4:05 tells you why this is the wrong keyboard for you. I too have the Apple Magic Keyboard and I also have the (Tactical) G915 keyboard and I recently purchased the MX Keys. I work from home with my M1 MacMini and I also have a gaming/editing PC. If your sole purpose if productivity, I would recomment sticking with the MX Keys. They are quiet, the indentions on the keys help you identify and ensure your fingers are where they should be and has the keys backlit for late night work. My magic keyboard and MX keys are currently sitting in my drawer, and I decided to use the G915 as its a full-length keyboard and provides me an office feel. I do not normally type while I am speaking in meetings so unless I am speaking, I mute. which eliminates people hearing me type my notes in the meetings. Although I love the MX keys, I love the volume wheel, the media buttons and the G-buttons as they can be customized and the color scheme for my office and the fact that any key can be programed to be anything within the G hub software. as a side note, you would put that 2x4 at the bottom of the monitor arm clamp to free up some desk realstate.

  • Super nice video - honest and thorough! ... and I'm watching it on my last day when I have the chance to return my G915 TKL... and I have very similar concerns. It is just that Logitech have got two completely separate product lines - one addresses gamers and one is for productivity. I want to have a low profile mechanical keyboard from a reputable brand. I do not have a single game installed on my PC and it's been like that for ages. So sad that Logitech do not offer mechanical keyboards for productivity :( That thing with the lightning vs bluetooth is also a gaming thingy - the lightning stands for Lightspeed which his Logitech’s wireless technology that’s much faster than bluetooth. This gives a fraction of a second faster response time which they say is important if you’re shooting with other guys in a game… whatever, for us productivity people it’s pointless. The idea is that it’s not meant to be used to facilitate easy device swapping i.e. unfortunately something else we don’t need but obviously have to pay for :) Btw, I didn't understand which one of the 3 types did you get? The so called "clicky" as far as I know is officially banned in some contries for use in office environment exactly due to the sound issues that you explained. Finally, just in case you ever regret for bringing it back, you could try the same keyboard but in TKL format - that is without the Numpad and also no G keys on the right side = Ctrl key is where it should be!!! 100% agree with you on that :) Thank you for the great review! It was fun to watch and it will help if ever Logitech make a mechanical version of MX keys :D

    • I can't really judge if they're great for productivity, but Logitech has two mechanical boards that are more aimed at office use: the K840 Mechanical and the K845 Mechanical Illuminated. Other brands you could look at that aren't necessarily aimed at gamers are DAS Keyboard, Ducky or Leopold. Some of Leopold's models actually have material to help dampen the sound. There might be others as well, but these are the brands I happen to know.

  • Barrier app is better using keyboard with multiple laptops. Its free and allows you to move your mouse over from one laptop to the next. Or pc to the other pc. tactile is in between linear and clicky switches. With tactile switches their is a responsive bump that you feel when you click, which makes a sound.. Linear switches are the quietest and fastest, since they don't have a tactile bump which makes sound. the sound causes kinetic energy from the press to be lost. So it means that more force is required to press the button. thats why linear is the fastest. So, they will feel more responsive, since they require less actuation force. At least if you are comparing linear, tactile and clicky of the same keyboard. Obviously, it's possible that a different brand might have linear switches that require more actuation force than one brands tactile switches. The clicky switches are the loudest.

There are hundreds of other videos comparing the G915 to other mechanical keyboards. I've been using and loving the Logitech K740 for years. It's like the most perfect laptop keyboard you can imagine, and I find it brilliant to type on. It also has a white backlight. I tried the G915 and found it clunky, ugly, and generally disappointing. Now I'm waiting for my MX Mechanical, hoping it's something more than just the non-gamer-y G915.

  • Clearly, this is made for well heeled gamers, not for productivity. The Logitech G gives it away. I use the white TKL version for productivity as it's quiet (tactile) compared to my previous Logitech mechanical G613 but I'm under no illusion that I wouldn't be far more productive using an Apple Magic KB so I'll probably buy one of those next even though I'm a PC user. MX Keys I find far too expensive for a no frills rubber dome KB and I don't like the depressions in the middle of each key or the actuation force required, but everybody's different!
